Rather than rod and reels, you should do lines. $3 fluorocarbon vs $30 fluorocarbon or something similar to see if that makes a difference. Great video.

I use the 5'6" Ozark Trails rod for bank or kayak fishing in close quarters due to the overgrown bayous here in South Louisiana. It works well with the right reel and line. I e caught many big (and small) catfish, bowfin, garfish and even some big turtles on that rod.

I haven't picked up a spinning setup in so long. I actually gave mine to my brother so he can fish when he wants. Maybe I'll get back into it, or probably just get a BFS setup. Tight lines out there Yak!

It's never about how much the gear cost but does it work. For too many gear snobs who forgot that it all started with a cane pole, cork, hook and worms that you dug in that old coffee can.

There's a ton of budget friendly great gear on the market these days so really no need for high end expensive gear, that's just a personal preference and I want it kind of deal these days lol.

Dad bought me a 9$ walmart rod and first thing I caught on it was a full adult size catfish that I had to drag from the lake into the shore from being at our dock. lol My first time fishing in over 1-2 decades since childhood. Was exciting time since immediately after I stole a bucket it in my dad caught a big fish as well around the same size as the catfish and we were both kid cavemen just hopping around literally hollering lol. Good time. Both on cheapo rods on really low weight line.
Upgraded now though to something better (got a amazon telescopic rod for about 30) but, gotta say cheapo did fine for what it was ahah.

Back in the day when I was single I had a few combos that cost a few grand each for game fishing. These days most of my gear is from Kmart. I've got 3 or 4 Shimano spinning combos that are priced around the $150 mark and some surf combos that would cost $200+ to replace (but I've had them for 30 years). My average combo costs around $40 now and they take a beating. Inexpensive doesn't always mean trash.

@@johnbaker4847 yes but they're slowly changing to online. They used to be everywhere. I remember as a kid going into the sporting section to check out the new Remington and Purdey shotguns when the new models came out. Got my first CZ Brno 10/22 there.
