…a personality, a vocal miracle singing in her own league, full of humor, authentic and as her audiences loved and adored her, Birgit Nilsson gave it back out of her big, big heart. She will be remembered as one of the greatest singers of all times passed and still to come. RIP
@@danielcabrera4161 I wish I could have seen her live, along with all the mighty legends like Bjorling, Callas, Sutherland, Norman ...I also must go to the Met some day, was brought up listening to "Live from the Met" radio broadcasts!!! I've been to Covent Garden and saw Domingo in Pagliacci which was astounding 💜
This was truly amazing! I also loved her Swedish interview in 1981 where Franco Corelli surprises her from behind the curtain and serenades her with a piece from Turandot. She had a delightful sense of humor as I recall from that interview. She was an excellent artistAnd also a very humble person. Personally, I think humility and excellence go hand-in-hand.
I'll never forget the first time I heard this. They released a CD of this concert, including the speech as the last track. I'd stumbled upon the CD in the local library and taken it home. I was in art college doing some tedious sketching while listening to the CD in my earbuds. Already a big fan of Nilsson. Suddenly she comes on and does this speech and then out of nowhere she starts hojotoho'ing. And then the rapturous applause. I started crying and a fellow student had to ask if I was alright. :D

What a woman! What an operasinger she was! And the speech to Mr Levine at the MET! Wow!
La Nilsson was 78 in 1996. Amazing❤
I remember this. Thank you.
I can't see the video for the tears of joy. Awesome Lady.

chills! she still could attack those high notes!
Dear God. How about THAT from an 83 y/o lady? RIP dear lady.
She was 78, not 83. She was born in 1918.
Great Woman 😊❤
A terrible misfortune that his career ended the way it did.
