LOL we can drink before we can drive but not JUST before we drive. 😅
I’m assuming they’re simply ignoring Alaska when talking about daylight hours. 😂
Hawaii has left the chat.
‘Young people living at home’ is also related to the culture. The further east in Europe you go the more likely it is to find entire families, with multiple generations, living under 1 roof.
There’s about 70 million in the UK, nevermind the rest of Europe 😀
The UK is extremely densely populated. Don’t even get me started on London ha ha
There are about sixty odd million in the UK, fifty five of which live in England.
@@robertpetre9378the UK is not densely populated, around 5%+- of the land is populated, hardly bursting at the seems.
@@chrisshelley3027the UK has 6x less people than the us with 40x less land.
The UK has 276 people per km^2 compared to the USs 37.
The UK has the 34th highest population density and has the 22nd highest population density when just considering countries with 1million+ people.
Its no india or Bangladesh dense, but it is the 7th densest country in Europe (3rd without microstates).
Tldr: the UK is like it's politicians, it's pretty dense.
@@hardcorelace7565 still 5%+- is not bursting at the seems.
What he means about hours of sunlight is when the earth's tilt changes through the year the days get longer and shorter the further north you go. At the peak in Scotland it gets dark about 4pm in winter and can be light upto 11pm during the summer.
I've sat outside in Inverness in the summer and read a book at midnight, it was so bright. No clouds that night, of course.
New drivers in the UK, aren't allowed to earn as many penalty points as more experienced drivers. If they receive 6 points, they lose their licence....
So does it mean that they only have 6 lifes in that arcade game? What about power-ups?
Voting age is 16 in Wales for Senedd elections, and the Labour Party plans to extend that across the whole of the UK for all elections.
Also 16 in Scotland
Kids are more likely to vote for Socialist parties that's why the Socialists reduced the voting age, personally I think it should be 26
@@user-wu5im2uh6h So you believe in rigging the vote in favour of who you personally want to be in government? In the UK you’ll have to go a lot older than 26 if you want to skew it in favour of the right-wing! 😂
First proposed by the monster raving loony party. Dropped to 16 as most likely to vote for certain governments as their view of the world hasn't yet met reality.
@@Trebor74 In my experience it’s often older voters who aren’t in touch with reality. I have an elderly relative who hates the Tories but won’t vote Labour because of what the Labour government back in the early 1970s…
I think the sunlight duration matrix is about daylight hours, not how hot and sunny it is…surely that would be measured with temperature as a factor.
I love your videos JJLA. I'm showing them to my son as brilliant examples of how reaction videos should be! Much love from the UK (Sheffield)
lol enjoyed your surprise in this reaction . cheers.
Europe is warmer than its latitude suggests because of the gulf stream - but its warm water and air currents tend to make for more cloud when they hit the colder air coming from eastern Europe, which is why sunshine hours are lower. Having a drinking age lower than the driving age is thought to reduce drink-driving, since by the time you can drive in Europe, drinking is no longer a novelty. Also if you sneak some underage alcohol in the US, you're less likely to be old enough to think of the consequences of driving afterwards.
Living at home has changed vastly in Australia in the 1970''s most kids left home by 18, but 2020's it's 30 to40
Climate isn't the same as latitude, europe is way further north but the gulf stream means the climate in Europe is warmer higher up.
I'm pretty sure you can't beat my driving record: in my very first lesson, about 10 minutes in and roughly 500 meters from the drivers' school where the instructor picked me up, I had my first accident.
Not my fault, I was about to take my 2nd-ever right turn, and an elderly gentleman on a bicycle behind us bumped into the car. No injuries, not even a scratch on either cyclist or car, but I still made the local newspaper. 🙂
Did they really have the Vatican marked on the map showing those that believe there is a God and it was Yellow?
I live in Spain and I can confirm there are a surprisingly high number of adults still living with their parents. When you look at the culture and history it makes sense but it’s a noticeable difference for me coming from the U.K where we try to move out of home quickly, usually by going to university somewhere far from home 😂
My son was 34 last year when he moved out when he got engaged. My daughter was 30 & had our granddaughter when she moved out for the second time ( she separated from her partner) kids are staying at home more in the UK to save for a deposit . In my day I left home at 16. Got my 1st mortgage aged 20. It’s so much more difficult these days.
This may make me sound incredibly thick, but I never realised Britain was on the same latitude as parts of New England. I thought we were more Southern. Doesn't New England get snow every Winter? I'm so disappointed we get hardly any snow over here. I love snow
Well, in Germany we have the Autobahn, so it is essential that people learn to drive properly. And because people will drink no matter what, it was decided it's better to FIRST let the kids learn to drink and give them 2 years to get it out of their system. THEN we send them to driving school where they get driving lessons in all kinds of situations, but only AFTER they pass the written driving exams. And then they are on probations before they can let loose. Car accident statistics say it's a better plan than the one US has.
Only 49 seconds in and I have to comment. 100 million - there's over 65 million in just the UK.
You misread the graphic. It said 746 Million in Europe.
@@MrGrahawk no, I was remarking on what JJLA had said he thought.
It’s almost at 70 million in the UK as of today. Soo many illegal immigrants are pushing that number up. Our infrastructure nhs etc are being affected greatly. We have people who apply through the usual rout of applying get a visa etc. so those immigrants come here work & contribute . These people are welcomed . The illegal immigrants coming in by boats etc Etc . Are not welcome. The issues of mainly men being put up in hotels. Given mobile phones as well as money from the Dwp - this causes a lot of anger. There used to be a hotel at the back of my daughter’s house. It has approx 150 men no women no children. The likes of shop lifting/ violence/ women & girls getting propositioned . Even woman with children with them being harassed by these men. It all creates resentment. I understand this.
4:41 Looks like an older data was used as Poland should be green since 2019. If you would look at the list of the voivodeships ("provinces") of Poland by HDI though, out of 16: 1 would be orange, 9 would be yellow, 4 would be green and 1 would be darker blue.
When they say "armed forces" Britons would include armed police. We have very few of those in UK but there's lots on the Continent.
I've seen a lot of these 'difference between US and UK/EU' videos; but by looking a some actual numbers and statistics, this brought a very new, unique, and interesting slant on things. Good job. And good reaction, as always!
BTW, (according to TNSTAAF) the minimum age to own a shotgun in the UK? (Have a guess...)
2 years. And that's because the adult who signs for the certificate has to have known the proposed new owner for at least 2 years!
(Although I did look briefly at some of the firearms and shotgun legalese, and could find nothing which backed this up. Wouldn't be the first time they got something wrong. But at well over 1500 'facts' over 10 years, they have only been proved wrong a handful of times, afaik.)
In Scotland for Scotland only elections the age to vote is 16 and you only have to be a proven resident to vote.
Ridiculous situation really. To vote you should always have to be a citizen, whether by birth or legally followed immigration steps to become a UK citizen. Anything else is giving away our rights. I'm a Highlander by the way. And 18 is the lowest age that voting should be permitted. People Younger than that have zero life experience and even 18 yr olds don't have much.
@@Thurgosh_OG personally I disagree. If you’re living in a country and paying into its economy, you should have the right to a say. I also think that the Scottish education system (at least in the school I went to) encourages political engagement through both Modern Studies as a subject and that we would have mock elections in the last few years of school. There are also many people who have spent decades on this planet who have little to no life experience or have never really had any political engagement in their life and yet they have the right to vote, why would a sixteen year old be any worse than they are?
Of course is more dangerous to drive a car than to have a beer, there are more deaths at the motorways than in the bars ...
in the uk you can drink from 5 ,you need to 18 to purchase alcahol
There are 54 diplomatically recognised countries in Europe; not all are UN members; eg the Vatican.
6:35 and New Hampshire!
Not sure if this is the same in the US, but in most European countries I know of, the "legal drinking age" is whatever your parents say it is. Where the age restrictions come in is on when you are allowed to purchase your own alcoholic beverages in a shop, bar or restaurant, or in some cases, if a restaurant is allowed to serve alcohol that is consumed by minors (ie, can a parent buy it for their kids). My parents (and I know there are entire countries where this is normal) served us the occasional glass of wine with dinner from the age of about 2. Entirely normal in that time and place.
Yea, Americans really don't grasp that the 16/18 thing here in Europe is "age to buy".
Drinking age is basically whatever. If the parents want to give their 12 year old a glass of champagne for New Years nobody is going to have an issue with that.
When there is talk about the economy and money... I never understand, how the country with the highest debt on earth can also count as (one of the) the richest. I just don't get world economy
Basically for countries and world economy it's all about "are we seeing our money back or not?"
If a country can pay it's debts every year the total debt doesn't matter. It's about reliability. Good reliability means everything keeps moving.
Things being different on the same latitude. Youre thinking about the equater and forgetting the slant we spin on.
Lol. And you forgot that the Earth spins on its axe. Meaning that the angle is not specific to any part or country of the Earth. The differences have more to do with oceanic currents and other such stuff.
No, I explained in easy talk, I used slant instead of axis, it the same thing.
Why did you censor 'Drink'?
Fun fact: london is ihigher latitude than toronto
The earth isn't flat, neither is it north, south orientated, it spins, and tilts/wobbles on its axes, as it goes round the sun... You can't use a north/south orientated map to represent the weather/ Climate on a spire.

The high population is one reason why bands/comedians etc don't break their necks to 'make it' in the States. Americans can get a bit uppity about whether someone is big in their country as though they aren't really successful if they're not..but there is plenty of money and success to be had by concentrating on Europe, and it's closer to home and family. 😁 not surprised he was surprised at the numbers.
Happy to by you a beverage old chum but only because you've stopped all that slapping annoyance..we like you just as you are..😊👍🇬🇧
Is this a re-upload? I watched this yesterday (4th March 2024) but this says uploaded 4 hours ago.
Maybe you watched Ryan? He did this a day ago.
We get less hours of sun in the UK cause there's white fluffy things in the way
6:41 Erm... why isn't the Vatican City in blue???
The narrator mentions Ankara, the capital of Turkey - Turkey is in Asia. He also mentions Azerbaijan and Georgia - both also in Asia.
Turkey is both in Asia and Europe. Obviously Anatolia is in Asia and that's where Ankara is. You seem confused. Georgia and and Azerbaijan are generally considered to be European countries though, but sure - they straddle the border like Turkey.
Plenty of people consider the Azerbaijan, Georgia, etc. Europe.
Continents change depending on where you live. It's not something objective.
@@LondronableThe border to Asia used to be considered the river Dnipr, in Ukraine.
Also does people not know that Asia started out as just a province in the Ottoman Empire?
Also, if we're speaking geographically - Europe and Asia are the same continent. Africa too. Afroeurasia. Remember that the Suez canal is man made.
@@user-lv6rn9cf8m
Again.
"Continents change depending on where you live. It's not something objective."
Continents like AfroEurAsia contain like what? 80% of the world's population? Not really useful.
And that's sort of the key here. For things to be used in a language they need to actually mean something.
The Swiss economy is crazy. You would have to take out a mortgage just to buy a packet of crisps and a pint of beer over there. 😅
Same in Norway. I went in 2010 and it cost me £15 for a triangle sandwich.
Excellent original video to observe 😀
The UK ALONE has a population of around 65 million!
Can someone in the states get Trump to watch this please. He seems to think Europe is like Vegas.
Mad fact the most Europeans don't know. There's more guns in the US than people.
Pretty sure absolutely every european knows this.
America has more hours of sun because Europe has much more cloud coverage.
Reducing the amount of hours without the sun shine 😉
Sunshine hours has nothing to do with the weather, it is actually the duration between sunrise and sunset.
Surely there are 50 countries in Europe.
51. But only 44 that are ONLY in Europe and has it's capital in Europe.
An- kara???? Ank-ara.
If the USA was populated to the same density of the UK then the USA would have more than 2.8 Billion people
Does this include Some parts of Russia that are also in Europe and 80% of the population of Russia live in those parts so you can add 110 million onto that plus parts of other countries like turkey and some more
The size of the UK military is now very low, less than 200,000 including reserves. There is a law being considered that will make it illegal for anyone born after Jan 1st 2009 to be sold tobacco products, in an attempt to eradicate the buying of tobacco by young people, and eventually anyone. Not sure if a capitalist government will push this through, despite it being their idea, as it will harm the incomes of donors and impact on taxes received through duty on tobacco products.
Lol. That reminds me of the US alcohol prohibition and also the war on drugs. We all know the results of those.
You have a Number of people. I suppose you could have an Amount of people, if you mash them into a paste.
