- (Feb. 21, 2021) Former four-division world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner returned from his two-year hiatus from boxing with a unanimous decision victory over Jovanie Santiago in the main event of Saturday night’s SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast, live on SHOWTIME from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., in a Premier Boxing Champions event.
The popular, must-see attraction Broner (34-4-1, 24 KOs), who last fought against the legend Manny Pacquiao in January 2019, started slowly but used the second half of the fight to surge ahead on the judges’ scorecards. The fight was scored 116-111, 117-110 and 115-112 and all three judges had Broner winning rounds seven through ten.
Cincinnati’s Broner landed just 35 of 138 punches in the opening six rounds of the fight while the previously undefeated Santiago (14-1-1, 10 KOs) landed 93 of 305 during the same stretch. At the end of the fourth round, Santiago was deducted a point for a punch that landed after the bell. Over the final six frames, Broner landed 63 of 300 punches while Santiago landed 114 of 392. Broner was most active in the ninth round when he connected on 14 of 38 punches. Though outworked over the entirety of the fight, Broner landed quality punches over the second half of the bout which earned him the victory.
SHOWTIME’s unofficial scorer Steve Farhood scored the fight 114-113 in favor of the Puerto Rican Santiago, much to the chagrin of Broner. Santiago, on the other hand, was not surprised by the judges’ scorecards.

When AB starts letting his hands go I just smile 🥹🥹🥹
If broner took this sport with a true passion he would've been unstoppable. I'm not taking anything away from him he's an amazing fighter
I STILL DOUBT IT .. HES STYLE IS VERY EASY TO HIT
Definitely. He'd do better fighting on the outside. He has a quick jab
I believe it cause he bacame a 4 division champ at the age of 27 he could it achieve more if he took the sport seriously
Keep dreaming
If u don’t think he gave his best vs maidana then you don’t know anything about boxing. Not every boxer is a legend
AB dangerous when he let ‘em go. He did that a little more this fight.
Ikr
What I learned over the years is that you have watch these sporting events with the sound off in order to see what’s really going on and be able to form your own opinion. The commentators be forcing weird narratives all the time
Even these boxing channels out here are doing the same shit. They quick to talk about how they are shitting on old media, but they are even more fuxk up.
How would you handle watching a fight deaf, i always love watching fights with the sounds of punches landing it shows how hard the punches are
Idc what anybody says I love AB he’ll always be one of my favorites
Right fuck it
@@martinsmith4169 on his 😂💯

Santiago had some moments in the fight, but Broner clearly outboxed him and knocked him down. Good work AB.
What round?
he didn’t know him down it was very close but he never touched the canvas, but your right broner got that
What fight to watch hahaha
@@gdupkwin9676 8
@@22xxjoshxx22 thanks
apparently broner landed zero punches in round 1, you can literally see him rock santiago's head back with a jab in the first 30 seconds???
He pissed some people off behind the scenes. He had to.
AB easily controlled that fight😂 commentators obviously don’t like him
it reminded me why i watched it with the volume turned off the first time.
Facts lmao
The commentators for this fight need to be fired immediately. Broner did not waste energy in this fight. He picked his shots well and made his opponent miss. He boxed and got the victory. Much respect to him.
I was so confused watching this fight while doing my run, the other dude missed most of his punches and was getting popped. Broner showed good defense and was hurting his opponent
Facts
He against broner 4sho
I just made a similar comment. After the 5th rd I skipped to the end to see if AB won. It couldn't stand hearing anymore BS from that commentator. If AB didn't get the decision I was going to be sick to my stomach.
I'm definitely glad the actual judges scored the fight correctly.
@@vernonashby2984 yes tired of those commentators knowing nothing yet direspecting fighters such as AB.
Can't stand those fuckn comptuer's statistics that they use it's doesn't mean sh!t it counts punches that land on gloves man...
Broners trainers gotta stop telling him he’s winning every round. That makes him comfortable and content and he doesn’t throw more punches
AB won this fight. He was gun shy though, but he threw enough and got a knock down. Broner's defense was good as well. Come with the hate please.
Wasn’t a knock down, but close. Broner should have utilized the jab more as Santiago was coming in rather using the jab to keep him at a distance. Broner also should have kept throwing more uppercut’s. But he definitely won this fight being the more technical puncher than Santiago. Santiago was basically bull rushing his way in. Reason why I honestly think Broner should have kept popping the jab out there for him to run into it.
I also don’t like how the commentator was mad Santiago got a point taken away after hitting AB with a low blow followed with a straight after the bell
I’m rooting for AB to turn his career around!💪
lol....Then you'll be waiting until ur old and grey. Our people just love supporting fu*key. Good luck.
we been rooting for AB since 2014. its time to accept it for what it is.
Fr good to see him back in there
lol
He won't...
Man you can tell who the commentator going for 😂😂😂
Facts
In my opinion the commentator overlooked key moments when Broner was throwing punches and did not comment on them. Even the slow motion instant replays where Broner was punching the commentator said nothing to acknowledge the work Broner was doing. Listening to the commentary and watching the fight it appears to me that there was a significant biased against Adrien Broner. Whether it was intentional or not who knows. I didn’t have a favorite in this fight. I just wanted to see a good fight but but In my opinion the commentating didn’t seem fair.
I wanna make a one sided commentary compilation
In your opinion??? Naw .... you are speaking straight FACTZ!!! That commentator need a stern talking to..... commentator is definitely biased.
I’m watching thinking the exact same. Ref too telling him focus and quit talking 😳. Just literally not his job
I had to check the comments to see if I was buggin yo.... very dope fight but terrible coverage 7th round homie hit the brother like 11 times and they talking about nightlife?? Even the stats sounded wayyyy off ...peace
They NEED TO FIRE THE COMMENTATOR 🚮🚮🚮
Damn AB must of did something to this announcer😂😂
He took his side piece and bragged about it
alot of you have a clear misconception of what boxing is
This commentator is pretty cool normally! But, this commentary seems a bit biased against Broner
The commentator needs to shut the hell up! Dude is a whole AB hater taking bout “how will broner turn this around”. AB landed more punches. Pissed me the help off
The Commentator really Wanted the Other Fighter to Win. But Skills Pay the Bills Baby. AB the Best at what he Do😊😊
Not the best💀miadana beat his ass🤣🤣
This guy said "best" 🤣🤡
@@hybs9473 bro is a goof😂😂
Naw he wanted him to throw more punches.. He was clearly frustrated with him not displaying his potential..
@@ipittythefool79 nah he was clearly ignoring and disregarding AB clean punches. AB peppered this guy all night w jabs 🤣 u can tell by his face.
Good fight I thought Broner did a nice job in a tough situation considering the lay off and a highly motivated undefeated opponent looking to make a name for himself off of him
Dude had 1 lost he wasn’t undefeated
@@jonathanho7162 that was a draw
Really glad to see AB back in the ring and focused, he's been humbled quite a lot and seems he's getting a grip on his attitude, I'm here for it, he still has a lot of boxing in him left!
You guys kill me with that humble shit, you all are soft. And it’s entertainment, he promotes himself. Al pays Broner to do that shit basically.
What the heck is the commentator talking about?Calculated, mature fight from AB
It’s so funny how the announcer is acting like Santiago is more accurate than Broner, Broner simply taggin him on whenever he unloads a jab and slick uppercuts
Ab clearly won this fight, the commentators just fool the ppl into thinking he’s losing. 🤦🏽♂️ yah have to stop being so biased
Lol I can’t even count how many jabs AB landed on this man. And every time AB lands a punch, the commentator talks abt how “bad” of a fighter he is 😭😭 must be some bad blood
@@BriskoThe3rd facts dude is a hater
Exactly Broner clearly hurt him to the body in the 7th but dude either didn’t see it or didn’t say anything
So who did they give the win to if not ab
28:47
29:42 🤡 *lands two fat jabs*
I don’t think that AB is scared to let his hands go. I just think he doesn’t have the motor anymore to chain combinations together consistently
Every since Miadonna KO’ed him 🙄 it’s a confidence thing
he scared stop it . he dont wanna get KO anymore
@@039recordzonetakemeze4 Maidana vs Broner went 12 rounds there wasnt a KO in that fight, but Youre correct Maidana ruined him
i think deep down he gets intimidated. he seems to shell up and not throw. hes so talented and has a lighting fast jab. all thats missing is the mentality and the ability to make mid fight adjustments. The one time he did do that was against jessie vargas.
@@nimbus9954 he never been KOd 🤦🏾♂️
Watching this fight again clearly shows that the judges got this right AB didn’t throw as many punches but when he did throw he was hitting his target and he even hurt Santiago with a body shot and AB was blocking a lot of Santiago’s punches, but listening to the broadcaster he was bias against AB
It's so easy to be biased against AB's style tbh. Dude just does not throw sometimes. A lot of the time actually.
Facts I got to a point like he needs to stfu lol
I bet he throw a lot against fig this month, if he don't win in textbook fashion, than his career might be over.. He has a lot of talent and he still has a lot of boxing in him.. He need to do everything he used to do and look good doing it 💯
@@donjohnson3888 honestly it was disrespectful to put Broner in there with this guy. I would have took it easy too
Shit man i was biased but then I watched it again. Broner did in fact win
AB countering the right straight with a left hook every time , awesome stuff
Check hook is what its called Floyd used it a lot
It's hard to explain but if you watch boxing Broner was doing more effective damage Santiago wasn't really hurting broner
The fact I was just looking for this fight is wild too
The commentator was not playin in the beginning 💀 “against a unknown out of Puerto Rico” “no the crowd insn’t like that because of covid- you may be surprised” I’m dying 😂😂😂
well he's right. I love AB, but it's clearly weird to see him fight an unknown fighter like this yes.
To compare, Floyd after a 2 years old break came back to take Marquez, nothing less. And they were the same age more or less.
Let's go Broner show Floyd you still got it.
Good fight to watch today, I can tell broner had a lil ring rust
No he looked fairly good. Fast twitch is still there and even some of his older fights, he might’ve looked quicker and better paced in this one.
@@joshgen8533 facts
@@joshgen8533 right. He’s more focused! Hungry for it
I didn’t even know this fight happened.. wow
No one did
I like this version of AB pic yo shots and work off the jab
First comment!
Hopefully Broner does well on his comeback fight with omar
Since when fighters can't talk during the fight .. I hate that new refs stop them from talking . That builds the fight. And that shows the fighter personality
Damnnn I didn't even know 🆎️ still box🥊, he had so much potential, but didn't have to DISCIPLINE that Floyd had. His Work ethic was his down fall. Hardwork beats talent when talent doesn't work hard
Is not that bro is actually the ass whooping he resivevd from maidana took alot out of him .he was never the same after that

Broner did a nice job.
after watching this again for the 3rd time i still had it 8-4 broner. it was a close fight, but i still think ab controlled the fight despite what the numbers might say. even before santiago got the point deduction i had him down 3-1 going into the 5th. ab was rusty after not fighting in 25 months and still showed that talent we know he has. can’t wait to watch him get back in there on the 20th!
I agree with that…
Would love to know what 8 rounds those are.
@@tonytouch145 just watch the fight.
@@OBM45 I’ve watched the fight. I dont even know what one round broner took clearly. He was outstruck in both power punches and jabs in like 10 rounds. Outstruck by 2-10x in like 8 of those rounds. I don’t see how you can make a case for him winning 8.
@@tonytouch145 pretty simple. but hey, to each their own.
I reall wanna see broner vs romero, it will be full of shits 😂
That would be an awesome fight... would be perfect for a PPV undercard 👌🏾
😂 definitely 👌🔥
Broner will whoop Rolly
Commentators make me not want to even watch the fight...broner won easy I don't know what they watching
i felt broner won simply because his work was so much cleaner than santiago's, who landed very little clean shots in the fight if any.
Yea he did have cleaner shot agree
The ref is going outside of his authority by telling AB to stop talking. Man do your job and watch out for the low blows and rabbit punches.
THANK YOU!
Right
The ref: let's keep those gloves up
The commentator: when I tell you to do something you better do it
I refuse to watch anything after
Broner looked great- I have never said that. He showed tonight what a boxer looks like. Great job and good workout!
AB good to see you back 👊🔥
Santiago eat so many jabs. Broner won, because of his jab and more accurate shots overall.
AB clearly won this fight he had better power & better defense should of let his hands go more with combinations but great win after a long lay off his natural boxing talent can still win him fights but still needs to let them hands go to work
AB would’ve been so nice with it if he wasn’t trying to emulate Floyd’s style so much, he was fine way before he went to TMT camp and had his own style but then tried being to much like Floyd
Thanks Im not the one who noticed that. It made him awkwardly stiff too. Those walk arounds and the lock ups. Looked like a shadow of mayweather
When was the last time he actually did the shoulder roll?
Imagine what bro we would’ve been if he was dedicated
AB enjoying himself.. he’s relaxed.
I thought broner wonned pretty clean on sum 10-2 type ish
Big facts, damn near a shut out
the commentator should be fired
Seem like announcer didn’t want to give Ab any credit
They figured out brokers style. He’s too committed to counter punching and he’s kinda come forward or stay in the middle of the ring kinda fighters if you not really throwing it won’t let him get into Rhythm. Then it become a boring chess match with one fighter throwing very little because he only want to counter and the other throwing very little cause he don’t want to get countered… Broner would take out guys like this in 5 if he was actually aggressive
His face show who won
Ab looked huge
Good fight AB!💪🏾🥊
broner still got one of best defense
He NEVER had one of the best defenses.
@@Mr.Oct___ he did opponents land at a low percent on him
A complete robbery he lost by a split at best ??!
GOOD FIGHT
AB looked like a gun shy fighter past his best days. If he doesn't improve his punch output against a swarmer like Omar Figueroa he'll get outhustled.
He lost dis fight,clearly..he jst kept holding n using elbows.
He for sure needs to be at 140 or 135 . That 147 got him slow as hell.
He can’t make 135 now🤣
If broner could make 135 again he’ll be a beast.
Mikey proved otherwise though remember?
@@abstraddic0442 that was at 140
im happy to see the comeback on the wayy
I honestly felt like Santiago edged it out when I watched it live. I’ll have to watch this again.
I thought the same, but I've just finished and I seen all the shots Broner gave him. He did his thing 6,8,10,11,12. He really was hitting and hurting Santiago. What you thought?
Look at Santiago’s face…says it all. Broner smoked him.
People -- myself included sometimes, I admit -- just want to see AB lose, but this was just a close fight. Broner took at least 6 rounds, and that point deduction saved him imo. I had it 114-113 AB this time around, and I've watched it twice now. It was thoroughly unimpressive, again, but Broner probably edged it. Santiago much more active and landing more frequently, but Broner landing much higher quality blows. AB's lack of workrate is a serious issue for him as far as scorecards go. Sometimes it just seems like he doesnt even wanna fight.
Yeah I honestly thought Santiago edged, but also lost so somehow broner miraculously won by clobbering his face.
Whats the padding being worn around Santiago it's covering his stomach near the end kidney protection?
watching Broner fight is like watching a chess match.
Judges on point cool
AB has to trust his corner, he's a lot better than the efforts he puts out..
I know this is a old fight, but its been what you come to expect from him.
He'll show flashes of why he was a 4 division champ, but hasn't let his hands go in a long time.
Still wishing bro the best, as a Ohio native and somebody who loves to see people win in life, his story doesn't have to end, or to be told the way its played out so far.
Absolutely,he has talent.
Something is terribly wrong with AB. He's lost his fire. He doesn't let his hands go. He's totally unmotivated is what I see. It looks like he's not listening to his corner, like he doesn't want to get hit or something. If nothing else WE KNOW THAT IF YOU WANT TO WIN. YOUR production and accuracy must impress the judges more than your opponent. He's lost it. It being whatever it was that made him go undefeated until he wasn't anymore. Very disappointing.
uhhh....matchmaking made him go undefeated sir. If ur talking about some sort of intangible. I don't know what that is.
Man he did a good job wtf is y’all talkin bout?
@@rollz1990 Did a good job where?
@@Mr.Oct___ the whole fight he controlled the pace with his ring generalship and was more accurate!
AB always gonna be one of my favs he just gotta stay focused
Commentator just wanted to hate ab so bad. Clearly out boxed santiago and picked his spots well. he was looking for spaces to counter against a aggressive fighter.
Where is the haters at that said Broner lost this fight?
Most of Santiago’s punches were not landing clean when shown again in slow motion
operative phrase: "when shown again in slow motion". We don't grade fights live in slow motion over & over douchebag. It's one shot to make ur case for judges and fans b4 the cards are reaad.
AB shouldve knocked this guy out in 4 rds
I think AB could have knocked him out Santiago clearly could handle his power .I hope AB steps up his game a little from here
AB aka the Problem is a real Boxer, amazing talent, after long time not fighting he did very well.
In the 7th AB looks as fresh as round one. He is unhurt. Santiago is winded and and is feeling it all
Broner one of favorite fighter always says what he feels.
the commentary and the fake statistics of punches thrown and landed is just embarrassing showtime needs to stop this BS and be fair even if you hate a fighter
Let’s go ab get back gang 🔋💪🏽
Broners defense is clean clean when you slow it down and his single shots are great but he gotta work more not everyone has a trained eye for this type of boxing
I’m happy AB won he picked his shots but he didn’t attack enough. If he can do more output he would still be a threat. His foot work and defense is still pretty decent
That commentator seems like a real broner hater. Hes not impressive but hes doing what he has to do . And b clearly won
AB worried about clean single punches instead of throwing a couple to create a opening. He is nice asf but he square up on the ropes and when the dude is getting off. He got to take that risk. He have all the skills 💯
That ref had 2 COVID masks he wasn't fucking playing 😂😂😂
Weird hearing the commentary over the commentary lol
Boxing 🥊 is a lifestyle, not just a sport!!!We teach this @Duncanville Boxing Academy in Dallas Texas…..You must trust the Process and Respect the Art
this ref was mad annoying talking and ego is apart of the sport
GLAD TO SEE HIM BACK IN THE RING..I hope he keep his circle small..i just wanna see if he still has his quickness..and let his hands go..hell with that shoulder roll crap..
AB can stand in a brawl fight, he goes down many times in the canvass but he didn’t slept, his team should atleast trained him to throw combinations and improve his offense because he always got punched right after the ref separate them from the clinch... he can be great again..
Literally just had to mute the sound it was so annoying
Broner has a beautiful jab
I would've liked to see AB on that Crawford /Spence undercard fighting Maidana or Prograis but great comeback AB and stay at 140.
Bruh for real, I said the same
The problem is Broner never took boxing as if it was a professional trade that required him to behave as a profesional a true gentleman he carries himself like a riff raff and thats his downfall
All you Broner haters need to understand that aggression isn't all boxing is. Active doesn't equate to effectiveness🤣🤣🤣
Your idol ducked a washed Figueroa due to "mental health" five days before the fight, casual.
