He wasn't faking. You can hear it in his voice that he still talks that way.
he definitely was faking it. Sure he talks like that but that old interview he was off the wall...extremely exaggerated. people ate it up.
bruh Louis are you that stupid. Of course thats his voice, what he was changing was his behavior and story - i mean regardless, he still exaggerated on his voice.
Are you serious or are you faking it? He's said he was seriously faking it. As in both...
He's talking like a complete fucking idiot and describing things that didn't happen
Honestly his interview was refreshing. He was like a little kid just being themselves, honest and passionate. Talking like that doesn’t mean you’re stupid, it means you’re having a lot of fun surfing.
yeah I agree it’s not stupid people just can’t imagine being so hyped about something so they think it’s weird
but I totally get it I mean just listen to any skater gossip about how perfectly a hardflip was cought and how bolts someone landed and you start understanding the mind of “surferdude” hahahahaha

Chance Hagler haha exactly. He is trying so hard not sound anything like the interview.
Hahahah so true! The inner surfer almost got out, when he explained the reporter what ‘get pitted’ means 😂
I dont care if hes faking it or not, He seems like such a Happy Guy
Anyone who gets to surf regularly is happy.
I haven’t surfed in decades and just the thought of some of my rides ,or smashes, makes me feel better.
Imagine being his son 15 yrs later in high school telling everyone this legend's your father
People die in war, put their lives on the line to save people, and you call this guy a legend? Wow.
Come on lets be serious. He was high as FUCK when he did that interview.
Peter Ian Staker, I don’t think he was high. I think he was just being a surfer
2:22 he almost relapsed. He wanted to go full “super dude” but he restrained himself.
He's one of the happiest people I've ever seen. Only kids can reach that level of happiness
@@EdwardTCat trying it once ain't going to get it done though ..... you won't be able to even paddle properly after your first 6 to 12 months of regular surfing..
Surfing, to the level that you can get "soooo pitted" and "smack the lip - waapah" is one of the hardest things you can do... It literally takes years, surfing 2 or 3 hrs nearly ever day, to reach that level .. You also have to "pay your dues" along the way, with a lot of beatings, hold-downs, stitches from cuts, and what feels like near death experiences in the process ...
This is one of the reasons it creates that level of shear excitement, thrill and "stoke" that it does when the waves are good and you're tuned in ...
Don't get me wrong, there are levels to this thing, with excitement and stoke to be had at many different milestones e.g. 1st stand up on white water , stand up on green water , do a turn , do a top turn, race down the line, duck dive etc etc - but the "it's better than sex" level takes a lot of time and dedication to reach !!
Completely lying about faking it. Dude struggled to not talk like that again, for this interview.
he wasn't faking. he was a kid enjoying his moment. and he was an airhead. and it gave us gold.
He was the voice of a generation, now if you don't mind, I am going to get fully pitted.
@Shewas-kathybates don't care. It's the truth. I was nice enough to say he was trying, at least. But it's obvious he wasn't faking before
15 years from now he’s going to say the second interview was fake as well.
He still sounds the same especially when he was explaining what pitted meant.
That's because he was doing it purpose. You can tell he was making a joke about the video again
When she asked what does get pitted mean he was about to lay in and re say the whole first interview.
"it's like your in the beast of a monster" it takes a great man to articulate such a specific sensation with such ease.
I feel like this guy did a character and now has been so deep in the barrel with the character that he cant stop. His life got pitted in this character
2:37 "its like youre in the beast of the monster" yea he still got it
Hell yeah. After surfing your first barrel, you know what he’s going on about. Pure adrenaline
SquareB0t you’re probably the guy who surfs on a swelly and pulls into close outs to say you got a barrel
He passionate about what he does and he expresses himself in the right way he ain't dumb
Aging did him well. Good to see that he turned his passion into a business.
Ride on surfer dude !
He aged active in physical exercise. He'll look the same with 45 and probably not much different at 55.
I dunno man, spending hours out in the sun running a surf school ages you fast. I dabbled in it, and got out quick. And nope, you aren't "enjoying being in the surf" when teaching, you're working hard messing about in shitty tiny waves that you'd never bother surfing in your own time. There's also not a lot of money in it, but I guess that's relative. It is fun when young and single though, there's something weird about girls being attracted to instructors of pretty much anything, it's like shooting fish in a barrel.
@@dadthelad Yeah that dude has got mad wrinkles for only being 35, he looks at least 10 years older than that. Gotta wear that sunscreen, it will fuck your skin up.
Got to give him some slack, could tell in the original video he was cold. I surf in the cold and it really makes your jaw and tongue limp so you talk like a stoner.
Yeah I agree....i scuba dive those waters, even during the hottest day of the month, when you exit the ocean your frick'n freezing, your whole body shakes...yeah,..narley dude.
I smoked everyday for about 10 years straight and I never spoke that way, yet after about 2 weeks of my friend smoking, he did. it's just a mindset and stereotype.

Surfer: Yeah.. Noone does that 🤣
Wow that reporter is SMOKING

I dont think he faked it.
It is fake. Hes surfing in huntington beach which is a shitty wave like 90% of the time. The part hes faking is his actual surfing ability. Hes basically describing what a really good surfer would do with a really good wave. Neither of which is him and the wave he was riding
@Chad Kensington im from huntington Beach. Its fine that he just talks like a dipshit and got internet famous for it. But what hes saying is absolute fucking nonsense. It would be like telling someone you slayed a dragon while standing in front of a dead cat. The waves behind him are clearly shitty and hes talking like someone who was riding a huge wave like a pro. I cant even watch it without wanting to punch his nose
Matt Cunningham Nah bro. I live like 15 minutes from Huntington Beach and there are decent waves. On Tuesday, (2 days from now) the waves are expected to be over 8 feet.

I loved his enthusiasm in the original interview. Why are adults not allowed to be excited and playful about the things they love?
It's kinda sad to think the world laughed at him, and he became ashamed of who he is. I hope he knows who he is, is who we all love.
I don't think he's being laughed at, he's amusing sure, but as he said, he exaggerated everything deliberately. He perfectly embodies the super chill, high-even-if-they're-not-high Californian surfer dude. Glad he and the wife are able to capitalise on his recognition. Well, it is kind of hard to making a explanation of surfing in a big wave. Probably makes more than you though so that's good enough.
