Thanks mate, I got caught buying a 2nd hand 230 crf for my son...had it a month and the thing started smoking like a hippy at a Bob Marley concert. Took it to the local Honda dealer.....and bang....sir your quote is $5000....everything is fucked they reckon.....well that is little more than twice what I paid for the thing....I told them don't worry about it I'll do it myself. The icing on the cake is when I went to pick it up (in pieces) the mechanic offered me a carton of beer for it.....what a fuck'n liberty! So I will do it myself.....and like you have shown in your video...some bikes you just need to get up and running again....they arn't worth a lot and you don't need the rolls royce service on em...just want em working again so you can use them.

Hello, just want to comment on how you and the young guy (your son I would guess) are working together. And the respect and patience you show in helping him. My dad never had the patience so we didn't do those things together. It's nice for me to see that fathers and son's can work together like that...good dad

Does anyone know how to mount the cam chain on a zs169fmm machine, the piston is 69mm. I have a chain of 102 links and 104 links. 102 links are too short and 104 too long, regardless of the tension in which phase it was. on the 102 link, it needs a little bit to sit, but I'm afraid that it would be too tight and could damage the camshaft bearing. by the way, I don't know if it is the original cylinder on the machine, because I read that the piston should be 65.5 mm.

+GAR A I know how to find out if the piston is on tdc (Top dead cernet) and not on bdc (Bottom dead center): take the spark plug out and look inside to visually check that the piston is there. if you cant see anything it maybe because the top of the piston is black. in that case just stick something inside to feel the top of the piston but be careful not to drop it inside the barrel!. if you have done it wrong the bike will probably still start but be really noisy. if you notice this, open the valve covers and search tdc again. The valves clearances will be REALLY BIG, adjust them again. that is definitively tdc.
it is good to always take the spark plug off when you do this anyways because the engine is easier to turn.
I think the valve clearance would be more accurate if the engine TDC is set turning the crankshaft in the same direction as the engine normally turns as it normally works (that is the oposite direction the mechanic from the video does it) I have done it in 3 different bikes and i think it would usually be anti clockwise in probably most bikes
If it doesn't have any marks on the crank i would imagine that something somewhere would align somehow, like the bolts on the timing chain sprocket in this case?

moe green guess what....when your an experienced engine builder ....youll see black blowing past the compression ring....this is the tell tale sign the rings are bad...youll also see black on the skirting of the piston.....but you would not know that...cuz you've never been inside an engine......you have to realize this engines worth about 250 us dollars......so you have to weigh the cost of service to the value of the product....would you put 300 dollars into an engine worth 250...no...here in USA an hour of a mechanics time is roughly 100 dollars...so 1.5 hours and your at 50 percent total value.....it does not make sense to do a documented blueprinted build on this engine

    • @moegreenbl

styles, unlimited I've rebuilt countless motorcycles and ATVs you were partially right on what you say but not 100%. I've only built 2 Chinese machines a 110 and a 70 cc. Most Japanese engines the valves are shimed nonadjustable replace shims only

Look at the dent in the piston from the exhaust valve hitting it. LOL. Look at the exhaust valve spring when he puts it back on. It's crooked because the valve is bent from hitting the piston. This bike is fucked. He did not even check anything. Didn't even use a cris-cross pattern when putting the head bolts on, much less use any torq specs. Good way to warp the shit out of the head.
