Dr Prabha Atre, the living legend of the Kirana genre, started her performance with a sweet raga Shyam Kalyan. Her rendition of vilambit bandish was followed by a tarana on drut ektaal. The maestro later presented another khyal set on Raga Madhukauns. An urge for embracing the eternal soul with the nuance of holistic love was the main theme of the excerpts of her vilambit bandish “Shaam Maan Mohana” while her drut bandish “Paar Karo Mori Naiya” revolved around the spiritual state of love for the ultimate. A tarana “Ta na na tanum”, set on the same raga, followed on teentaal. A romantic dadra “Basanti Chunaria Lao More Saiyan” performance came next by Prabha Atre, who wrapped up her part with presenting a Bhairavi dadra “Jagat Janani Bhava Tarini Mohini Tu Nava Durga”.

Dr Prabha Atre is a distinguished classical vocalist, one of the senior musicians of the Kirana Gharana in India. She began her training under the guidance of the late Sureshbabu Mane and his sister, Padma Bhushan Hirabai Barodekar. Dr. Atre has been known to draw inspiration from renowned maestro, Ustad Amir Khan and Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, but has exhibited innovation and creativity in her music, establishing herself as a notable vocalists in the realm of classical music. Dr. Atre’s musical discipline ranges from genres which include Khayal, Thumri, Dadra, Ghazal, Natyasangeet, amongst others. She is a recipient of the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Kalidas Samman, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and Tagore Akademi Ratna.

There's something so magical about her Shyam Kalyan. Soaked in bhakti rasa, the divine invocation of shree Ganesh ! Reminiscent of Ganesh chaturthi in Mumbai. The early morning scent of fresh flowers, the tranquility and excitement of having bappa over, the aroma of ukdiche and tadlele modaks, the jasmine in kaku's ambola and the scent of incense sticks! This is what raag Sangeet can do. Magical! Shat shat naman to this great artist, her accompanying artists, the organiser for bringing this to us Rasika's.
