- Critical Thinking encompasses six vital skills: problem solving, analysis, creative thinking, interpretation, evaluation, and reasoning.
These skills are increasingly in demand as the world transitions to an "ideas economy." According to Forbes, although 70% of university graduates believe they have the critical thinking skills to succeed in the workplace, only one-third of employers agree. New approaches in education and recruitment are needed to address this "gap."
Macat is working with global partners, including University of Cambridge, to develop new research and insights into the importance of critical thinking in education and the workplace.

Text:
Critical thinking is all about asking questions. The right questions. Questions that help you assess both the meaning and the significance of claims and arguments. Building these skills and applying them in your life makes it easier for you to assess evidence, evaluate arguments and adapt your thinking and stay switched on and engaged in different situations. Critical thinking involves stepping back from a situation to enable you to see all the angles before making judgements or making decisions. It means identifying the key points, analysing the source of information, weighing up different types of evidence, just as a judge and jury would do in a court of law and putting it all together into your own independent, thought through point of view. One thing that's very important to realise is that critical thinking isn’t about being critical and it's about much more than finding flaws in other people’s claims. By itself, that isnt enough to give you an edge. To be a true critical thinker means being creative, reflective and adaptable. Evaluating the evidence to decide for yourself what is accurate, what is relevant, and do I have sufficient info to make a decision on this topic. Thinking critically means taking a stand for yourself. It can be difficult not to be swayed by close family and friend’s views on things, or certain beliefs that just...feel right. But learning how to use these higher order thinking skills can help you feel more confident on your own opinions and conclusions. Crit thinking is also about the sense of discovery and excitement. Not only about learning, but evaluating arguments to see how they stand up and filtering for yourself what resonates as right or wrong. By using these techniques, you'll find yourself becoming a clearer, better thinker.

Critical thinking should be promoted in our schools. Especially with so much media manipulation and propaganda.
I say this all the time. If our schools focused more on critical thinking instead of memorization, our society would progress much faster.
Not really sure what you mean by that.
Dapeng Wang that doesn’t mean there isn’t some in America or Britain .Right now there’s more than there has been in decades so yes in context there is so much
@kkk iii I disagree. There is an equal amount in most countries. However they are conveyed in different ways. It is more forceful in China. It is more passive in the U.S. The lower class citizens in most countries have similar percentages of the wealth in relation to their elites. It is usually a lesser percentage in less advanced countries
i agree, but as a parent it's my job to make sure my kids learn this skill. why are people so comfortable in allowing others to raise their children?
I think critical thinking should be thought in our schools, even before university so that it can be learned practically from a young age. It is a very essential skill that every mind needs.

I am always critical of that kind of talk.
I think being able to distinguish your thought from so many others gives you that independence to make sound judgement.
Critical thinking is a continuous process. Its Evaluating information and putting opinions based on facts, and applying what you learn to effectively solve problems and make better decisions.
Critical Thinking = Discernment + Courage
This needs to be seen a lot of people and practiced. Even by "educated" professors and students, this needs to be seen again.
People hate me when they ask me to pick a side on something, especially politics, because I very rarely feel that I have enough information to make a thorough decision or analysis. I also wish I was more creative in order to help me..that’s a whole other muscle that needs flexing
Its smart to gather more information.
Same here. Since I don't fall into one of the two most popular political camps, I don't "fit" with either system. I'm an individual thinker and the mass majority don't know what to do with that. They want me to either hate this person or that person. I'd rather analyze the policies.
I am so tired of that group think nonsense. When will people think for themselves? People should not believe things in face value.
No bro things like politics in my opinion doesnt do any good for creativity

I really am impressed with this course , these skills most defiantly need to be taught in grade school to college. this skill trains society to function properly and respectfully to solve problems accurately by using facts to come to answer instead of rouge feelings and ignorance to make a final decision . Half of critical thinking is just trying to stay awake
Lmao 😂 this is so true
I made a major mistake back in college taking critical thinking as my last lectures of the day
Haha, keeps you awake in life
I know EXACTLY what you mean! To be mentally tired from sun up to sun down is pretty wild!😅 Mine keeps me from sleeping though…😭
Do your research. Think. Weighing up the pro's and con's. Some life experience thrown in. Common sense. That bit of intuition. Listening. Confidence to say what you think and have an opinion. Let's talk! :)

Critical Thinking is all about questions. Creativity, adaptivity and the ability to embrace relevant information. In all circumstances think things through and developing a planned process will save time and energy. I don't think any business likes time wasted. Sometimes in certain cases it may be better to take a step back and asses from different view-points.

Classes should be mandatory for critical thinking in schools
Agree. I was in elementary school in the late 70's and 80's and remember that we actually had a class called critical thinking skills just like a math or history class. You can look up years past sample tests of what kind of knowledge was required to pass a grade and the further you go back in years, the harder the tests were. I remember seeing one from the 1930's/5th grade and that test was hard for me as an adult. Parents must teach this to their kids because they sure as hell aren't going to learn it from anyone else.
@@housewifehoneybee2784 hos can i acquire it? is the past sample test available on google?

Most of us believe too many unfacts. The ones that don’t believe are considered heretics.

critical thinking is to break down a thought and think about it piece by piece

very appropriate video for my daughter to understand the meaning ofCRITICAL THINKING
I came here to understand critical thinking even more. It's almost a curse for me. I simply just can't turn it off. What isn't leaving my mouth is being spoken in my head
Have you ever critically thought about your critical thinking about the topic of critical thinking?
This super cool short and handy
I think this video should be shown to every doctor
I just dont get why such a quality video gained such a few amount views ?
That there is part of the problem. Most people don't want to be critical thinkers...or any kind of thinker (philosopher) for that example.
because being a critical thinker is stoopid
Because thinking for yourself is work. It takes time, energy, and self reflection that many people aren't willing to expend because they don't see it as useful. Why learn how to calmly negotiate with an irate person when you can just wait until hating you bores them? The logic behind this being that if you do try to reason with them they will either be too angry to care or quite simply won't be able to follow your logic because they don't also possess any critical thinking skills, making them even more upset.
all these answers are kinda stupid. this video is a quality one, but it didn't gain lots of views for probably many factors. People dont go on social media to search "how to critical think", therefore, it isnt searched a lot and isnt in the recommended box much. people go to youtube for interests like gaming, science, vlogs, traveling, and all that shit. Not things that dont interest them.
Most people dont even have common sense let alone critical thinking skills. Society has been indoctrinated by leftist academia.
Nobody highlights how scary it is to be a critical person, and what I mean is, when you step back to look to the big picture, investigate, question, evaluate, reflect, all that is such a hard and scary task. Knowing that there are no truths, just assumptions can bring a feeling of emptyness, all what we have are assumptions that at any time can be broken. For me, critical thinking is like being locked in a dark room with an unkown monster that seems to want to kill and tear me apart in to pieces, but in reallity, once becoming friends, he will will be my guide and mentor for life. Please, I want to be your friend but it's so much easier to hide myself in my cave, ask someone to unlock the room, hide in my false troughts, why does it have to be that painfull. Please don't open the door, but help me to become your friend.
Is there a transcript of this video anywhere?

Thank you. I have to do a paper on how i’ve grown as a critical thinker. I have no idea what it even means....
That is probably the most accurate stance you can hold.
Question it, what is it?
Critical thinking is an umbrella of things. Think of it as the Dunning-Kruger effect, if you do not know enough about a topic, be careful if you are to make decisions regarding it. Try to be aware of your limits. And if you need to, learn more.
Critical thinking is good when following goals, to guide you to the right path in achieving these goals. But the goals need to be set by you and your values.
"Neutral" topic:
Say you want to stay healthy, you should probably exercise, eat healthy, avoid risks like smoking and alcohol. These are rational decisions that can be shown to be beneficial to a healthy lifestyle.
If you don't care about long term health and want to maximize the present you could rationalize all sorts of stimulants and short term sexual relationships and other "virtues" to your set goals that would be considered vices in the first scenario.
Critical thinking is like guide rails to your set destination. It's not good nor bad, or shall we say it's precisely as good or bad as you are.
Now I'm no critical thinker myself but I'm guessing that assignment was due a long time ago...
I love your informative video.
I suspect there is a role for emotions in healthy critical thinking. Let me think about it and develop later. Just a hunch?
Myron Steinman often our emotions work against our critical thinking
There is. You should look up ‘wide mind vs emotional mind’
Emotions and feelings cloud your judgement
Critical thinking Yes all about thinking high learning faster nd decisions making
Been able to feel confident in the choices that we make
What resonates as right or wrong?
Is not such a thing as right or wrong. From who’s point of you do we consider this? What happens to be perceived as wrong may be exactly what is necessary for change to happen.
What about thinking of the natural stages of transformation and trying to find out what can make the situation or person further develop. What do you think about focusing on issues that bring new perspectives and a nuanced understanding.
We determine what is right or wrong based off of objective truth. Relativism is a lie itself and holds no ground for truth since it contradicts itself.
@@st.michaelthearchangel7774 you couldn't be further from the truth. Relativity is at the forefront of all thinking. Just because something is proper in on instance doesn't make it proper in another. For example a shove. I shove you from one place to the ground five feet from where you were standing. Would you be upset or thankful. It depends on why I shoved you. Upset if I was just being rude. Thankful if I pushed out of the path of a large falling object. Relativity means a lot.
What a great and inspiring quote “learn better, think smarter, aim higher!

There is bias in this video at several points...more importantly it’s too brief to truly explain critical thinking...don’t you think!!!
@@FrederickSelmon what makes it bias? There’s good information in the video. You just have to take what you feel is relevant to you, tho everything in this video was relevant, maybe to everyone except you.
@@FrederickSelmon please tell me what the biased points are, im genuinely curious.
It would serve you better if you learn to write properly with correct spelling of the words before your high aims. 🙄
What is the right question?
I think during this course you have delved into the critical thinking process and applied that process to your personal life factors, individual attributes, learning styles and other activities.
I here to show this to my Parents after they got scam for a fifth time. I was mad at them at first for being so stupid but than I had to take a step back and remember they grew up in a different age . They didn't have critical thinking class in public school when they went to school.
You’d think this stuff is common sense but it’s surprising how quick people are to act on impulse instead of thinking the situation through first
Can you say that's natural to human/animal nature? Impulse and especially emotions are extremely hard to take out of situation or everyday life,.
The more I practice critical thinking the less i come up with conclusions or solutions. For me the true critical thinker is always looking for evidence they may have missed.
Critical thinking is most definitely following the right decision and doing its and your own mind.
Good job keep it you.
