We rode on it by accident a few years back pulling a 42 ft 5th wheel. No where to turn around. Luckily we had a motorcycle lead the way and tell us when it was safe to go around the corner. So glad when we made it through. Just knew I was gonna get a ticket.
The place across the street is called KIllboys. Killboy is the internet name of a guy who sets up a photography booth at one of the corners and sells pics on the internet of bikes and cars as they pass.. He was the first to start doing it, and he's been doing it for at least 25 years. Anyway, I have seen him guide semi trucks and towed campers down the road several times, so he might be the guy who guided you.
There used to be one specific trucking company who's GPS navigation would consistently direct their semi trucks to this road as a "shortcut". Drivers who knew, didn't follow those directions, but new drivers would. He used to call them, email them and send letters telling them to stop doing it. They eventually did, but only after one of their trucks killed someone. Killboy did give a deposition as a precursor to a civil trial, telling the lawyers how many times he had warned the company...with proof. Of course the trucking company settled out of court. I don't know how much the family got, but I'm sure it was a very large dollar amount.
All that beauty of nature and ppl racing and speeding through it.
Love the Tail of the Dragon. Drive safely and enjoy!
Thanks! Will do!
Sweet !! Havent been there in the last 20 years. On motorcycle only...Thanks for the memories....
Hello Mike and Karen. I am not sure if I've commented before, but this one I had to. Mike, I've heard you talk about motorcycling in all those great places to ride. My brother and I rode all over down south (we are from Michigan) from 1998 to 2006. The first time we passed through the "Dragon", on our way back from northen Georgia, was in 2000. There was no one around except us! The plane white block building looked like a motel. That was all there was to the place. We returned again in 2004 and what a change. Thanks for the ride along. I've been watching you videos for about three years now and their great. Later.
Wrecks are because of crazy driving. I've driven it once and that was enough for me. Scariest drive I've ever been on.
That was very interesting. And crazy.
That was very wild .And crazy .
It’s been 20 years since I’ve done the Tail of the Dragon, just about time I tackle it once again.
Mike and Karen, thank you for taking me along with you on your beautiful drive! Really enjoyed your video! I just love Big T because, he puts a smile on my face! Love y'all and God Bless!❤️
My husband raced different types motorcycles. for years. We rode through the North Georgia mountains too.
I miss him since he past away and all the places we went. But good memories
Hey Mike and Karen tail of the dragon beautiful
Road to ride on that's one road that you treat with respect glad y'all could take me along take care God bless
Beautiful drive, fall would be amazing with all the colors as God’s paint brush swipes across the mountains. Deals Gap was was a nice place , the music was too loud for me and sort of destroyed the surrounding area. Way way to many folks coming through I pray that God keeps each one safe as they sweep around each curve feeling the excitement and thrill that the mind and body receive. About Parsons Branch, that is a beautiful drive also. Very quiet and one is covered in the smells of the mountains as you enjoy the drive. We rented a 4x4 for the drive and our German Shepherd loved the no top strapped in the back. I remember a beautiful church near the end a good ways off the road. We walked down to the church and took several photos that filled our memory of favorites places. Well, as always you have shared your adventures and they too are a part of my memories. Give Big T my love and a hug, take care and may God’s love and blessings cover you like the sweet clover that sweeps across the meadows. All my Love from NC, waving
That was crazy! It was like watching Motocross speedway.I was waiting for someone to crack up. I don’t think I could do the Tail of the Dragon 🐉! Great video!
We did the Dragon about 10 years ago in our suburban with 5 kids 😂 it was actually pretty fun !
We did this in our BMW Z3 convertible when we had it and THAT was super fun. I was never scared. At one point a mama bear and 3 cubs crossed the road and everybody had to stop. LOL Keep on keeping on. You're wonderful.
I've never been on it but always wanted to. The bikes go fast enough but my goodness those little cars were crazy driving that fast
Looks fun. Be fun to drive a racing cart up there. Sounds like Big T wanted to go surfing. Playing in the band looks fun.
I just read my comment again and notice that it's several completely random thoughts strung together 😄. That's what happens if I comment before adequate caffeine gets in my system...lol
Good video 😊, l been on it 2 times. 11 miles and 318 turns 😮 and a lot of accidents there.😮
That was last time my mom got to go to the smokies 😢she absolutely love it she wave at the photographers taking pictures. Thank y’all for sharing this.
Wow some fast drivers on that. Too scary for me. My hubby would like it. Thx 😊 God bless
Hang on BIG T.
We drove through a couple of years ago in mid May...Crazy, but such a beautiful drive for sure.We actually went on over to Fontana lake and walked around also, it is very serene!!
Looks like fun for those who know what they are doing but I worry about those that don't know what they are doing!
I would be back there with Big T!!😂😂😂😂😂
thanks for showing us the tale of the dragon, but i don,t thing i want to go there/ i,m dizzy just watching. haha
Good stuff, guys.
I couldn't do it, I would cry the whole way !
Y’all need to drive the 14-mile Little Shepherd’s Trail from Cumberland to Whitesburg, KY.
Great video, like the hats .. Dougo will be proud 🚜 @larsonfarms
Oh my.....😳😬
You and Karen need to buy a harley-davidson Road Glide and do the Tail of the Dragon. 😁
🙂👍❤️❤️
Try coming up to New Hampshire..one day....Mt Washington Auto Road.....and The Kangamangus Hwy...In the White Mountains...
Rode the dragon on my bike a few years ago . A whole lotta fun , and I have the t- shirt 😁
Enjoyed this video! Also just watched the video on the jail turned into a hotel & restaurant. Very good! Would love to see that!
We did this in my minivan about 10 years ago without realizing where we were headed! It was crazy! At least one bike went over the edge. The photographers had pics of our minivan on their websites to order. 😂
Driven it twice, once in each direction , but in a car, not an RV. You should also try Devil's Whip (NC 80 north of Marion) if you haven't alreay.
We have a road from Malacatos to Catamayo that you will fall in love with. I wish it was not so expensive to bring vehicles to South America. On this road people drive slow safe and enjoy the view. There is no use to hurry when you can watch the sun set from 5000 feet and look into the valley
In my 20+ years of riding the dragon…I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve seen someone pulled over by State Troopers (not counting the accidents…I totally love this road and your video brings back so many memories from my past 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻…may God continue to bless y’all…your friend from “The Land Of Cleve” in Tennessee 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
Hubby drove this with friends on motorcycles many years ago. I would love to experience it, but on a bigger motorcycle..we have a Harley sportster and Vulcan Kawasaki…The older I’ve gotten, my inner dare devil has faded away. Thanks so much for sharing this adventure..it is a very unique one. Hugs to Big T -:)
Just saw that big yellow Earth Roamer in Russellville, AR! Small world for sure.
How about a trip to Waynesville or Asheville, NC. We will be back in Bryson and Dillsboro/Sylva soon or i would recommend those for ya. And y’all were just there…
Keep up the vids!
I will stay on the mountain scenic highway 64 between Franklin NC and Highlands,NC that has several beautiful Waterfalls to visit. Mr. Mike you are brave to drive that highway in your ram van. Appreciate seeing the beautiful ride, but scary with all those driving so fast.
I drove Parson's Branch road last June, me and a friend of mine hiked up to Gregory Bald to see the flame azaleas and we got caught in a torrential downpour. Coming through the creek crossings were a little unnerving because the water was so high, even for my truck. It was a very rough road in spots. That's the only time I've been on that road.
My husband use to have a Harley years ago, but…he’s always been a responsible driver even on a tough bike. I get the sportiness of the bikes etc, but…driving on yes..sharp curves is scary and dangerous. Be safe everyone.
I've been on it once in a SUV and that was enough. I was praying one of those cars or motorcycles didn't lose control on that curve and wipe out your van or ya'll. I hope you pick up where you left off with this video. Hang on Big T. Hey 👋. Hugs 🤗 and kisses 😘 to you, my man. Mike seemed excited doing "the tail." Must have brought back memories. Have you given the bike up completely? I bought me a motorcycle years ago. As soon as I got home with it, I rode down the road in front of my house, not a main road or highway, a country back road. I got ran off the road twice before I could get back home. I prayed Dear Lord, if you get me to the house, I will sell this thing. I put it up for sale the next day. I was done. I thought, if this is happening to me on a back road what's going to happen on the highway. I wanted no part of it. Thanks for sharing. Have fun, be safe, and God Bless. ❤️
Thank you. No more bikes in the near future. God bless!
Looked like "Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo" in the first few minutes with the smaller cars speeding by. LOL. Enjoy
Was you all in Cherokee Monday. If so I see you all😊. In your camper
Yes, probably was us!
Thanks for this video back where I spent the first 40plus years of my life points of interest from deals gap motorcycle resort go to bottom of hill toward Robbinsville NC before crossing bridge nice place to camp on lake no hookups but free to camp word of advise take jacket get cold after sun goes down and the Dam you pass is the one from the movie The Fugitive and also the movie In Dreams
Aww poor Big T!
Wow it’s crazy many motorcycles 🏍️ through to Deals Gap. 🤯
I know that always motorcycles ride through Blue Ridge Parkway. 🤷🏼♀️
We have rode this 3 different times with each one of my son’s cars…..first was his Mustang, then his Camaro and a few months ago with his GR86. We also rode our motorcycle with some friends. To many people drive crazy and it scares me. I don’t know why they think they have to speed around those curves putting their life and other’s peoples lives in danger. Safe travels my friend
While that is a beautiful drive, I think I’ll pass. Between the stress of the drive and possible car sickness, I think I’ll just enjoy your video tour! Lol!🤢
Blessings 🙏🥰
Wow when you moved over off road for them motorcycles 😮😳
Big T had a ride, poor thing.
I've been on the dragon 1 time and that's all it took for me, I'll never go on it again!!!
Come to Waynesville NC and try daylight donuts there the best
Scary!......isn't there another road from the Cove that's a pretty drive?
Not to the dragon that we know of. There is one that comes out in Townsend.
Hi Mike, What bike did you have? Give my best to Karen. Great video!
BMW GS 1200 Adventure
Grew up riding the dragon but I must be getting old cause all the motorcycles thinking it’s a racetrack!
Be careful! My cousin was killed on that road. She was a beginner motorcyclist and rode with a group.
Great video, how far is it from Cades Cove?
Parsons Branch Road and I'm not sure but only one way.
Years ago my wife's uncle passed away and had his ashes spread along the tail of dragon. Avid bike rider😢
We accidentally did this drive a couple of years ago. Our GPS wasn’t working and we had no idea where we were until we started rounding curve after curve. It probably would’ve been enjoyable if I wasn’t so prone to motion sickness. 😂🤢
Ok Mike what kind of Motorcycle did you have??? ❤️👍🙏🏻✌️💪🏻
BMW GS1200 Adventure
@@FridaysForever very nice 👍 I had a 2003 Harley Road King and a 2008 Street Glide lots of Fun.. Ok you guys be Safe out There ❤️🙏🏻✌️👍
The only way I would do the dragon is in a military MRAP. Solid steel and built to stop any stupid motorcycle crazy in his tracks instantly.
I have rode it before but it scary
Will “The Snake” be the next road trip?
Sometime
We rode it and I got sick.
Mike you knew very well what at you were getting yourself into well before you took your van on the dragon. I’ve seen folks drag everything from horse trailers to rvs and etc on the dragon that made the situation around them worst for everyone that was either in the way or those trying to go around them . I’ve been on both sides of that issue and I was on a bike that either had a clean run on the dragon or was holding up the sports bike guys to find a way around me. I’m not saying that that’s right on on 129 but you have to have situational awareness at all times when on the dragon and use common sense. Because unfortunately there’s not a lot of that going on there. Some drive it or ride on it for the experience and others to set person best lap times….it’s just the way it is. ..😏
Mike what bike did frequent the dragon on?
BMW GS12OO Adventure
Beautiful but not peaceful serene lol!
Which direction do you like to ride the best?
Didn't you always stop and have a stogie when you were riding?
dangerous waste of gas. pompous. More delicious sauces and strawberries
Some of those cars are like Indy 500 too too fast
We rode it and I got car sick.
Be sure to pack the pepto bismol chewable tablets🤢🤮
Not my choice for a picnic place. Too noisy.
