as a current video game player, i can tell you that is indeed a scope on his rifle.
Yes the shot was ridiculously impossible, but they got a few things semi right. The way his legs were spread is accurate, at least they had some range and wind measurements. His breathing was somewhat realistic, his trigger finger placement, and the way he was holding the stock of the rifle with his left hand was legit. He even seemed to have good cheek placement on the stock. Compared to some of the gun stuff we see in Hollywood seems like they were a bit more thoughtful in this scene.
Everything except the suppressor, I do t think there would be any point using one shooting out that far. The drop of subsonic ammo would negate any benefit of the suppressor anyway
I mean to me is not a huge deal when they get things wrong movies because it is just a movie you know that I can get everything accurate because acting and not many people like me that cares because I don’t really care of a Zack or not you don’t want people to pay attention those people that know whole bunch of things about shooting my boyfriend is a lot of things by shooting to but he don’t really care what he watches movies because he knows they’re not gonna get everything right and he’s like oh well so what

@stimmo77 no, you're a brit, you've never shot a gun, and you clearly have no clue how difficult a shot that is. You're shooting a target at least half a kilometer out (that's being generous), it's moving at hundreds of kilometers an hour, you have to adjust for lead, distance, wind, etc. You have to know exactly what car to aim at in what spot, etc. You'd struggle to hit a still target at 200m with .223 or .306, yet claim that shot is easy. I don't know what's more insulting. The fact you think that this shot is so easy that anyone can do it. Or how ignorant you are on everything around firearms

I think the word you meant to use is SUS
He didn't shoot while moving with the target and just shot at a stationary point in front of the train.
Nice timing.
Some Math (sorry for my bad english btw):
Length of the side silhouette of a human head or neck: about 20-30 cm
TrainSpeed: 238 km/h
238 km/h = 66.1 m/s
0.3 m / 66.1 m/s = 0.0045 s
So he had a time interval of about 4 thousands of a second to hit, IF he was aiming perfect at the right point.
Nice.
you disregarded
the wind speed
Why dont you consider bullet speed relative to train speed?? What about Will smith distance from the target🙄
That shot would be impossible in real life!
Easy.
You miscalculated it lol
That's an incredible shot at 5 mph. At that speed, impossible. Leading a target blind like that, he's lucky he got it in the same train car, let alone hit his target.

@@Jiimys187 you don't know what those clicks mean, do you?
@P. A. I do what I want 😝
Plus he did it without looking through the scope, like he could tell with absolute certainty what his adjustments need to be by memory, somehow.. and why he felt for the wind after adjusting, that I can't quite explain.
However, I was far more amazed how he could follow the train while zoomed-in without accidentally throwing his rifle off of the building by how fast he'd have to be spinning the barrel.
thedatatreader you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. While the movie is completely fictional based on sci-fi , every point you try t make is incorrect. First you wouldn’t look through the scope while adjusting for elev and windage, ever. It’s based on cross winds and distance, two factors he would know or judge from his sci-fi talents. Feeling for wind after the adjustment would be to confirm his original though on windage to make sure further adjustments were not necessary. Following a moving object in a scope with both eyes open is the same as following a moving object while pointing your finger at it.... well a little more difficult, but you get the point. Maybe.

Some misconceptions that need to be cleared out for the experts in the comment section.
1. He is NOT zeroing his scope. What he is doing is making angular adjustments (Mil or MOA) for windage and elevation (bullet drop) after getting range and wind reading from rangefinder and wind-meter in the beginning of a clip. He looks at notes from his DOPE (data on previous engagements) and calculates the adjustments needed.
2. His scope has tactical turrets, the graduations are written on the outside (you can clearly see it in the video), so he doesn't need to count out the clicks when adjusting. All he needs to know is how many Milliradians (or minutes of angle) to adjust for and spin to that point.
3. The "scope cover" on his objective lens is not a cover, it's an anti-reflection device. It prevents the glint from the objective lens. If you play video games, some of them make it easy for you to spot a sniper because of the glint. This "cover" prevents that. And no, it does not obstruct the image.
So him taking measurements and adjusting the scope for the shot are fairly accurate. The shot itself is unrealistic to say the least, but her, it's a sci-fi movie, not a sniper movie.
Finally someone who know what is goin.👍 People think that all scopes needs to be count for drop elevation or calculated if you have a good scope with a calibrated turret , all you need to do is set it to your desire yards distance and aim on ur crosshair bulls eyes . No need to do maths perhaps only for wind adjustment but here is where the movie comes into place at that distance , the train moving so fast it is impossible of course maybe if u have 1000 snipers shotting at one perhaps one of them might hit the target
My question is: Did he lick the tip of his finger so he'd have better grip on the trigger?
He adjusts for windage and then just dragscopes at the last moment.
@@WayStedYou By "dragscope" do you mean leading? He adjusts windage for the wind speed, but he still has to lead the moving target to account for target speed.

@First Name Last Name huhhh🤔?
The only unrealistic thing about this scene is the fact that he's shooting at a moving train. But all the prep he did up to the shot is actually pretty on point. And no, he's not zeroing his rifle.. He's getting the range from his rangefinder, wind from his weather meter, and then using the DOPE (stands for data on previous engagements) he wrote in his notebook as a reference to determine how much to adjust his turrets based on his range and wind measurements. Though, the Kestrel weather meter he used should have built in calculators to calculate the turret adjustments for him, so the DOPE book part was probably unnecessary.
The method involved might have been kinda-sorta on-point, but the actual shot is ludicrous to the point of parody. If a sniper actually made that shot reliably and not just on accident, he would be a legitimate super soldier.
@@mung01re I know this is 2 years late but I dont think you paid attention to the movie. The dude is a super soldier. The explained multiple times theres never been a soldier like him that can do the things he can do. Hell look at the Catacombs fight and look at the actual Speed of their combat.

Forget the whole technical aspects of the rifle and sniping and whatever and think about this:
The agency Will Smith is working for,had the abillity to get one of their operatives in close proximity to the "target",who acts like a "spotter" for him.
My question: if you can get so close to your "target",then why the hell do you come up with this plan of sniping him from a mile away,in a moving train to boot, instead of just kill him up close?!
There are so many "better" ways to kill this guy,for example just intercept his coffee and poison it or send a knife expert and stabb the guy when he goes to the bathroom.
Or forget all this, I got a much easier method.
Put a sniper outside the train station and when the "mark" comes out to get his ride, BAM!
if u r the investigator, tell me how you will investigate that sniping. bec all scenario that u said gives me many reasonable explanation why they did not do it that way.
because they have that skilled man who can do it. give him a coffee with poison thing was so outdated even snow white wouldnt fall for it again. and also thats whats good in a movie, you can manipulate things so the outcome will be in favor to the written script.
Damn you're no fun
Perhaps getting a gun on the train was an impossible task?

I feel this reason this movie didn't do well in box office sales was due to lack of advertising, idk about you all but the first time I heard about this film was watching trailers for Joker and this film debuted shortly after Joker in theaters.
Or idk it being bad
It was a combination of what you said and it was filmed at that high frame rate and only few theaters have that technology. The same thing happened to Billy Lynne's Halftime Walk. By the Director Ang Lee. He's trying to do something that hasn't caught on yet.

Except for the shot itself, it is pretty accurate. A lot of the comments are from people who have a limited experience shooting.
@@muradbabaniyazov81 A lot of the lead up to the shot is very inaccurate as well. At that distance 1 click on the elevation or windage turret can make a huge difference. You dont just spin it quickly and randomly like he did. Also the safety comes off LAST, not half an hour before the shot. The gunshot is also WAY louder than the sound it made, a silencer/suppressor does not make a gun into some whisper quiet assassins weapon. The whole licking his finger tips thing is not accurate at all and is put there just to make people wonder why he's doing it. But at the end of the day, its a movie and most movie makers dont have a clue when it comes to firearms except mabye John Wick and Sicario.
@@buffybuff992
1. You can spin it quickly if you know your adjustments and you have tactical turrets (watch numbers on the turret), that's what the dope is for. He got the readings on range and wind, so he knows the adjustments. The round he chambered looked like .308. At 1000 yds, it drops around 400"-450", that's about 12 mils. With 0.1mil increments, that's 120 clicks.
2. He's made the adjustments, he's on the scope, if he's ready to take the shot, he can disengage the safety.
3. I'm not concerned with the sound of the shot because they're not acting like there are people around him and they can't hear it. And in an open space, the suppressed muzzle blast from a .308 is not that loud. Most of the noise will come from a sonic crack.
4. What's inaccurate about licking his finger? Just because you don't have to do it doesn't make it inaccurate. Maybe it's his lucky ritual, maybe he feels the trigger better. It's just a gimmick, doesn't mean it's inaccurate.
If we want to be picky, we can find inconsistencies in any movie, John Wick and Sicario included.
I don’t know why but this scene along with others calm me for some reason and I like it
No way he perfectly adjusted the knobs like that. 😂
The Dead Eye of a Sniper is a pathway to many abilities some consider it to be unnatural
The train is traveling with 238 km/h which equals 66.11 m/s. A target with the size of a head (estimated 30 cm) is 1/220 of this distance. So a head sized target will travel through a given point in about 4.5 miliseconds. This is way beyond human reaction time.
