Phasors on Stun --- one of my favourite songs of all time. So much talent comes out of Canada. Rush, Saga, Triumph, Tragically Hip, Barenaked Ladies, Gowan, Tom Cochrane, Kim Mitchell/Max Webster, April Wine, FM ... shall I go on. Amazing talent!
Prism, Toronto, Trooper, Harlequin……

R.I.P. Mr. Nash
Your gift of music lives on

drooling....just saw FM a few months ago...and the Hacienda in Toronto,
they were incredible....Cam Hawkins keyboard solo in this tune is amazing. they had a new mandoviolin guy..Maurizio something ...
When FM was trying to get their 1st record deal, no one wanted them. The CBC put out album 1 taking a big chance. First time I heard POS on a new FM Rock station, I ran out and bought the album.I wasn't alone. In a day when Disco ruled, they were way ahead of their time. That first album sounds as good today as it did 30 years ago. It fits today's Industrial Techno! I had the record, then the cassette, then the CD and now sits on my HD in MP3. It will be on every device I buy in the future.
Saw 'Nash the Slash' many times doing stage performances in Ontario, Canada. He was a true, unique talent that put on a (very loud) enjoyable, memorable show. Rock In Peace, Nash. Thank You for the Music.
Nash the Slash and FM opening for the Parachute Club at Concordia University, Sept 1984.
The Welland House in St. Catharines rocked!
Stratengers in Toronto every weekend for a few months in 1993 always a great show and at a venue I'd seen lots of live bands Sadly it closed for good on Jan 31 2021 RIP Nash
I was in college in Ohio when I first heard this on wksu's prog. rock program at 2AM one morning. Couldn't get it out of my head. Got the album (yes, album, then), and was introducing my music buff friends to this mesmerizing music. Great band, great musicians.
Canadian bands in the 70s and 80s kicked as. These guys would play in the bars in southern Ontario. Good times for sure.
Way above their times and even now..... and in the future, their music is so Bach like inspirational and so progressive....
This reminds me of CITI FM in Winnipeg in the 14 months or so after they went on air (April 1978) and before "Bro. Jake's" anti-disco movement ended much of the innovation and variety the station had become known for among my high school peers. That magical period introduced me to this band and prompted me to buy the album. Of course, I may just be nostalgic for that old Marantz receiver with the big blue tuning dial that I had in my bedroom back then.
After all these years, I still get chills whenever I hear this song. What a great rendition. The Jet pilot theme lends itself nicely to this song. Some really nice footage there.
Thanks for this.
its the first version off black noise but the footage is from NASH- NOT fm- the sound is fm but NASH used this footage in HIS shows
This has to be one of my favourite songs in my lifetime. I must have heard it at the exact right moment as a child in the early 80’s
RIP Nash
I love this song. Used to play on the radio in Louisiana years ago. I discovered it again listening to radio staions in Canada on line since Houston, Texas where I live has the worst radio stations.
Canadian gem
I was able to see FM in Guelph, Ontario.
Such a brilliant piece of music! The Ultimate Compliment....Jimi would have loved it!
Who is Jimi is he Canadian?
Saw them in Graven Hurst Ont 1979..they were great and that was a time when hard rock was huge..so to see these guys was different...
It's hard to find real good words to describe something so beautiful.
Although this is not a live performance of FM, it's the only thing on CZcams, and the live take is great!
Viva Black Noise!
FM's Black Noise was one of the greatest first releases ever! Still holds it's own.
Wow, this song takes me back a few years my friends. Remember all the good times!
one of the best and most underrated albums of all-time!
A great combination. Nash and incredible flying by Swiss Mirage fighter pilots!
Great band and great track
RIP, Nash the Slash. You were a great musician, and a great innovator...you will be missed, sir...you did things with a violin and mandolin I had never heard before :). Awesome stuff, thanks for the music!
DAMN this is an awesome tune!!!! Like one of the comments below, I get chills when I hear this song. The jet pilot video really helps give you a bit of an adrenaline rush. Who needs coffee - if you need a kick, just watch this video and listen to the music. Thank you so much for sharing this gem!
Oh man. I remember the first chance I had to see FM live was when they opened for RUSH on September 2, 1979 at Varsity Stadium. Seeing RUSH was enough to floor me but finally seeing FM made that show one of the best concert experiences of my life.
Loved these guys.
Thanks very much for posting this. I appreciate it. :)
One of my favorite songs of all time!
RIP Nash.
This truly is a fantastic video for this song
Sent this to my brother. He and Nash are buddies, so if he hasn't seen it already he will soon!
grabbed some tabs and thought cool, I can learn this and play it no sweat
No, Nash had a special thing going on. Same with the vocals.
Very special song.
Cameron Hawkins on synthesizers, bass and vocals, Martin Deller on drums.
I haven't had too much trouble learning the song on mandolin. The intro and solo are more technical, but the main riff is Em-C-G-D
these guys are nothing short of fearless and amazing. I'm an army brat and wish I had the balls they did
Perhaps just a different kind of balls
Are you talking about Nash the Slash or the pilot
Gotta love Nash the Slash. Great video with a terrific Soundtrack.
Never get tired of this gem. I so love this video. Major props to who ever thought/took the time and effort to put this amazing arial footage with a perfect kick-ass song. kudos all day long!!
How about Nash the Slash on the mandolin
Still have my vinyl album and the CD with this on it. Now my kid is listening. FM/Nash put on a an amazing show back in the day.
I still have my test-pressing version of the vinyl. A generic LP in a plain, white sleeve. The inter-office memo about the album is still attached. I worked for the company that manufactured the cassettes and 8-tracks.
My favorite music video. The mix of the song and the aerial footage has kept me inspired for years whenever I think something is impossible. The most incredible thing i saw in my life was an F 16 hover about 40 feet above the ground pointed verticaly for about 10 seconds. Then shoot straight into the sky. Pilot had balls of steel.
an old favorite of mine from long ago
I was there.... 79? 80? That was the RUSH HEMISPHERES
tour. My first.....almost everything. I still
make the car rattle with that tune...maybe I'm
not listening close enough but nothing sounds
that good anymore.
Great tune and a SWEET vid!!! Thanks for posting this!
Amazing song and film work. Thank You!!!!
love the video for this song.....i'd love to be in that jet....
another classic Canadian Band still listen to them today
Yes, you saw the warm up gig for NEARfest which was the same week. I was fortunate enough to witness the NEARfest show. And that appears to be the end of FM. There are no plans for future LIVE events at all. The mandoviolinist was just a hired hand.
Phasors on Stun
[Cameron Hawkins, Nash the Slash, Martin Deller]
Hold fast
Hold on
Nothing is a dream, yet in
Changing faster
It never seems to be here long
Move on
Turn 'round
Just can't seem to find it, try and
Reach out
Hold out
I cannot touch the wind
I touch you
Reach out
Hold out
Nothing here is real, try and
Searching farther
It almost seems to live until it
Moves on
Turns 'round
Just can't seem to lose it, try and
Hold fast
Hold on
I cannot ride the wind
I ride you
Hold fast
Hold on
Nothing is a dream until you
Wake up
Cry out
Now it isn't real, now you
Hold fast
Nothing is a dream
Hold on
Just can't lose it now
Move on
Turning round and round
Wake up
You cannot ride the wind
um- cam/nash/dellar nash is plewman- mi really hate when people think they know it all and have to drop the plewman name- i worked w/nash- and fm- for over a decade and i NEVER once uttered the name jaeff plewman
@@mdent23 I did not give them the name of any living person. I did not reveal any state secrets to which I may or may not be privy. I gave them one name.
Thanks
Merci pour ça
Perfect pairing, great editing!
Awesome video, awesome music. Thanks for joining this video and audio in such a great way!
This is an excellent mesh of video with music. Thanks!
Excellent video!
Awesome!! First time I'm hearing this
totally awesome.........
Nice Job.
Synth pioneers from CANADA.
Music with soul.
Great video which compliments the music------THose airplanes are so awesome----starfighters
@jonquil4000 Yes, the keyboard player, Graham something and he formed the band and used to perform late night live on TVO, with Nash maskless.
no- nash played w/cameron hawkins NOT a guy named graham
The Canard-Delta wing jets are Mirage IIIS's and the chase plane is an F5 of the Swiss air force.
Colin Clare There is a SAAB 37 Viggen in there to. Canard is the SAAB, non Canard is the Mirage. What a way to fly, eh?
Wow - watch this video whenever you've got a big challenge ahead for which you must be at your best
Yes I did finally...Ty
Aaawwwwwooo yyyyyaaaaaa that opening riff
Timeless . Brilliant .
this is probably one of my favorite songs, cause my dad would play this song alot when i was young because he knew one of the band members
This should be played on the radio far more!
Classic......
There is no experience like taking off. Push the throttle and let it fly.
2020??🔥🔥💯
Yes man, next year to lol
2024
Where are these guys now? And Nash the
Slash? I'm just discovering them, and
I grew up in Canada in the 80's. Fucking
stand up oh canada!
nash died rip
@@mdent23 Was thrilled by this vid 14-15 years ago, and Nash's music at that time. Then, I totally lost touch. Didn't know he died. Thank you for telling me, Michael Dent. RIP Nash!
RIP Jeff.
NASH- ffs - youre not special knowing his real name- why dead drop that name ?
From those first upright steps.
Nash the Slash & Farley Mowat work together at last!
Space Age Optimism: I miss it.
cool video
After listening to this look up "Wind Him Up" by Saga.
Another Canadian Progressive Rock band. The chorus of the two songs sound similar to me.
fm came first
@TheCyberPit The song is magic, really mistical.
@fandlinlv I remember those disco sucks iron on tshirs with the 70z writing
I've seen the CBC waste a hell of a lot more money on many less worthwhile things. CanCon was supposed to help Canadian Artists, but in the end it made it harder for them reach the international stage. I agree that the gov screws up when they try to compete with the private sector. I can think of many extremely talented Canadians who were not accepted in this country until they were big hits in Europe...Rush, Saga etc. A record deal is the difference between an artist and a STARVING artist.
Watching this makes me wish I could too :/
FM....CALL HOME!!!!!!!!!
here's a better quality version of"Phasors On Stun"
@Chorddual1 Thank you for the clarification Chorddual1, I should have researched that B4 responding.
I saw the same concert. It was the third night that I went to. Nash the Slash was out of the band at that time. Ben Mink was the one with the violin.
nash also played violin
God speed
God bless TVO!
@pikeasaurusrex Maybe his mother went to a F.M. live concert and he heard it then. After he was born he had a nagging thought that he was supposed to write a song...... :}
Back in the 60s and 70s when the Israeli pilots were still flying Fouga Magisters(max speed 450mph), they were so skilled at handling the old buzzards that they actually would fly the Mig21s into the sides of mountains in their homeland. That's no shit. Read the book Zanek and learn something besides the easy and obvious.
@bluedonkeyman except you'd never have heard of 'em otherwise.
Its funny but I always thought this song was by Saga..great song.
Understandable, they both Played in the same Realm.
This is awesome song. the song and FM never got fully recognized. They could have been big, like April wine. The original recording is alot better.
that IS the original recording off black noise
I never knew that.
Well Said, have the LP from my college days and WILL NOT PART WITH IT..from another American fan!
Staying that close...ie 'Being a Pilot'.. prevents enemy from pushing their own buttons. If you think it's easy getting paid to fly combat jets....please apply and tell me how you're doing.
PS...GREAT UPLOAD, thx!
This may turn-out to be a One-hit Wonder, but I'll keep it within my files!
Not quite
I know right? :)
@herrmitt1414 Hi there! did u find out where this can be downloaded?
@prsjoe like as if one pilot would chase another pilo t!?!, they just shoot at them from 2-3 km away, they dont even see their enemy most of the time except for a blip on their sreen
Does anyone know where I can get my hands on this particular recording of the song? Can't find it anywhere, and I actually tried to copy this song -- but no one's suggestions worked. I'd rather just buy it for myself or whatever, to avoid getting a virus. If anyone can help, THANKS!! :o)
Use freeware Audacity
Love this song, :52 -1:05 had to watch a few times to see what he did. Slight disorientation with that fast roll
Canada's best in the 70's
HAPPY CANADA DAY!
Time to bust out the roto-toms, mandolin and mini-Moog to take a journey across time and space with Canada's original progressive rock band … FM!
czcams.com/video/z0b0uTBbayY/video.html
marty didnt use roto toms
Mach Loop looks pretty tame compared to this.
trying to download with no luck..shazam failed me..must have..my life sucks :(
cool jets!!
ha remember capn Kirk kids
i prefer the longer version....i think it's from TVO and it's about 7 minutes long.
Actually, about 6, with the synth intro and the whispers from Nash.
I like this song with the drums just an awesome tune
this is nash the slash video w/fm soundtrack-wtf ???-you should have used nash soundtrack-im his soundman
Looks like either British Columbia or Sweden, from the Saab fighter, my guess is - um - Sweden?
Canada
