Oh do keep up. Simon Tolkien (son of Christopher) has been leading from the Estate side of the Amazon deal, as well as consulting on the show (another paycheck presumably). I think it is fair to say he is not very popular with the fans. There was an interview with the Amazon studio head, Jennifer Salke:
Q: How was the Tolkien estate to work with? The rights to this property have been so carved up. Was that tricky at all for you?
A: Simon Tolkien, the author’s grandson, turned out to be such a collaborator of ours, and a friend. He’s a wonderful guy and an author in his own right [true but not a very successful one]. And he’s sort of the designated liaison for this deal with Amazon. There were very clear guidelines around that participation, and he really became such a good sounding board and partner.
    Q. What sort of guidance did he give you? What was on his wish list?
    A. It wasn’t that specific; it was more about advising around different pathways of rights that might have challenges to them. Because there are very clear delineations there. But the estate was very open and encouraging for reinvention, but always in ways that stay true to Tolkien. We all have the same kind of vision for this property. There was never any disconnect there, which is probably why it worked out so well.

Read what you will into that!
Several of the Amazon team previously worked for J.J.Abrams' Bad Robot company i.e. Payne and McKay (showrunners) and Ames and Weber (producers). The terrible twosome (P and McK) actually boasted that a call from Abrams had nailed them the job. So yeah, Abrams' fingerprints are already on a Tolkien property.
    All matters of public record!

I guess it depends on what the movies will cover. I wouldn’t mind seeing a movie(s) about the War in the North

Without the talent, time, and care that Peter Jackson brought to the originals, then these new movies will feel generic

I find it notable that WB already own two franchises that _should_ be money-spinners and the equivalent of Disney's Star Wars and Marvel properties- DC Comics and the Wizarding World.
Does their focus on Tolkien and apparent wish to milk the franchise mean that they've given up on DC and the Potterverse?

I wouldn’t say I’m worried, but I can no longer muster any excitement for new shows/movies. It would be great if they’d stop effing up Tolkien’s Mythos. I think Jackson’s LOTR trilogy was better than most could ask for, but the Hobbit trilogy was a joke and Amazon’s show started out fine but was unwatchable by the end of the first season. I can understand changing certain things to make sense of the story on the big screen, but I CANNOT understand so greatly changing what Tolkien wrote in such contradictory ways. It is simply so disappointing.

Nothing, i mean absolutely nothing can take lotr trilogy away from us. as far as I am concerned, I only care about those.

I can only hope they learned from their mistakes from the rings of power. Probably the most generic show i have ever seen.
