Same. Tired of being the only black guy in the room who can't play lol
Don’t feel bad I made a complete fool of myself playing online only knowing how to play the ♠️ Spade cards & not the other ones ♦️ ♣️♥️
I’m so embarrassed 😞 I wasn’t taught correctly.
The story of my life. My husband tries to teach me but I can’t get it. I hope this video helps.

Ask your friends if they know what a lil and big MOE is! HA! Ya gotta play spades with the big and little joker!
They told me I gotta learn how to play if I want to be invited to the cookout
One of the most difficult things for beginners is determining how much to bid. When I first learned the game, my friends and I played several hands without bidding and they told me to just take as many tricks as I could. This allowed me to really get the feel of the game and made bidding easier later.
Bro tell me the cards from Lowest to highest.
Play for candy
Where's the black version
Right! We make our own rules! 😭😭😭💯

Spades, dominoes, sweet potato pie, and banana pudding. Some of the best memories from my child hood!
Finally a tutorial that wasn't lots of cuts of other video and dumb animations. Just clear and concise instructions in a way that makes sense. Nicely done sir, thank you.
I just learned this weekend and won't stop until I master it. It was quite fun
Finally a tutorial that makes sense!
I was searching for a video to help teach someone else spades and stumbled upon this...I totally disagree with this tutorial! for someone who doesn't know any better, they're the ones who gave a thumbs up. Firstly, teaching someone that they will play anything other than the lowest in a suit that lead, knowing they're not taking the hand is ridiculous... if somebody leads with a suit you don't have in your hand, and you have to play off, than try to win the hand with your lowest spade in the event someone else is not cutting as well. Playing off with a club if hearts are lead while maintaining a spade is obsord. TAKE EVERY BOOK YOU CAN without reneging.
@@moniquey5118 my question. Is what if someone does have a suited card, but its low and they cheat and say they dont have that suit so they cam play a spade and win? You would never know.
this walkthrough was very helpful, i understand the game better. thank you
Thank You 🙏🏽 you’re a blessing.
I’ve been playing the game grossly uninformed smh I never heard of the suits having rank in Spades.
Now it makes sense why the players online was so upset with me.
This new information has me so excited right now it adds more strategic moves to the game.
Oh boy I’m about to really study this game further.
Love Lace Where do you go to play online?
I'm lost, imma just have to watch this a couple more times and take notes or sick to uno.
Me too girl lol
Just throw a low card first to fish out the high cards of each suit lol then spades ..
@@joeyferguson7538 it doesnt work that way. Lol. That strategy is saying your willing to give up all you tricks at the start for getting tricks at the end that you may not get because other players may have higher cards. Lol
@@icesco415 in lamest terms that is how you play Lol
@@joeyferguson7538 i know how to play (concept) but pts is confusing to me.

Yes. I can't play. No one loves me.
HELL YES
This was super easy to learn! I've always been confused how this game was played. I think I understand now
For bidding, a general rule of thumb is to bid the # of spades (exclude 2, 3, 4, spades) along with the number of non-spade Aces in your hand. Let's say you have....
2, 5, 10, J, Q spades and also an Ace heart. Assuming there are no other Aces in my hand, I would likely bid 5.
Bidding is WAY more complicated than that but it is usually helpful for beginner players until they learn the game. I've won as few as 2 tricks with 7 spades on my hand and also have won as many as 5 tricks with no spades in my hand.
Thank you for explaining how you bid your hand. I learned to play Spades in the early 90's and haven't played since. I needed a refresher course, and your input is so clear and easy to understand. Thanks again.
Every time someone asks me if I know how to play spades? I say no and everyone just look at me oddly lol! I watched this whole video and I’m still confused lol!
Best Spades Tutorial Ive come across thus far. 👍🏼
Great explanation; thank you!
Overall, this is a great tutorial, and I appreciate it. The one negative would be that (TYPICALLY), you want to throw the smallest card needed to win a trick and throw the smallest card possible when none of your cards can win, anyway. So, since the tutorial wasn't getting into deeper strategy, it was pointless not to model this.
I'm so glad for this video, I was visiting New Orleans to see family, the family were out in the backyard playing spades listening to old school music, only I couldn't join b/c I didn't know how to play. That won't happen now.
This tutorial was amazing. Thank you
Added to my Non-Bridge Trick Taking Card Games playlist today. This is a more robust version of scoring.
Awesome video!!! Thank you
in the beginning player c had no more hearts left ... i would of chopped with a low spade instead of throwing a club down
Jessie Eguia exactly
We on the same page. I’m like he teaching all incorrect . He also bidded incorrect seeing he had only one heart
Isaac Tate just because the move wasn’t good doesn’t mean he’s teaching it incorrectly. This isn’t a video on strategies or tips to win. It’s a beginner’s video to show how the game is played.
Also. He’s playing four 13 card hands by himself to demonstrate. He was bound to make a few mistakes.
Yeah! I'm like why is this fool throwing King of spade?!
Thanks for making this video. I have a to play in Spades Tournament at church.
So helpful thanks.
This is a bloody complicated game
No, it's not complicated, I could explain not only how to play but how to win within a few minutes.
Naw its not, his explanation is just hard TRUST ME
Uzi Tenenbaum yea ur right
yeah its complicated.. but if you familiar with hearts game, this is easy to understand
Naw, it's not complicated if you play 5 games with some patient people it's easy to learn.
Great tutorial!
This was very helpful
Thank you very much for this video. I played a game after watching this video and I won 😂😁
Clear, steady, great tutorial man ty
Many people complicate things with special bids, but these are nice, simple rules.
I don't get the scores or the bags or the nil bid
Thanks for making this easier to get into. New sub.
Great video. One other thing that would have helped me would have been to explain how you came up with your bids, because it’s not just counting the spades in your hand or doesn’t seem like that. That would have connected some dots for me. But I thank you for all the clear explanations.
I think it would have helped if there were a little more explanation of why players selected the cards they played. For example:
2:11 Why did Player D and Player A select the 7 of Hearts and the 10 of Hearts to play when over the other Heart choices in their hands.
2:26 After Player B led with the King of Hearts Player C had no Hearts left after playing the 7 of hearts on the previous hand, but why did he throw off his King of Clubs instead of trumping the hand with a Spade?
Regardless, I think it was a good introduction on how to play the game!
All in context. You may not have bid that card and think you can pick that book/trick up later without sandbagging. It's easy to learn but takes some time and good partners to learn to master. Btw dump the two of clubs and diamonds and add the jokers little and big jokers top the ace of spades
If the first player plays an ACE, wouldn't the 3 remaining players play their lowest card of that suit since they can't trump it (unless they play a spade)?
+Kristy Kelly It depends on each player's bid. Sometimes a player will want to play a higher card to avoid winning a trick with it later.
@@GatherTogetherGames best reply I've ever seen. I had would had never thought of that
@@GatherTogetherGames what if a player has a suit that is played but it's a low card and they need to win so they cheat and say they are out of that suit and then play a spade and win? How would you ever know if they are lying? You do not show your cards right?
@@bizoyd29 you'd eventually see it later because everyone has an equal amount of cards so they'd have to show it at some point, if you catch it I think there's a trick penalty, but I wouldn't wanna play with anyone who cheats like that anyway
@@bizoyd29 they call this renigging, they will only know if they can count the cards already played, renigging can be a part of the game but most people who know how to play can spot a renig
It's the nil option and bags accumulation that make this game extra interesting.
Fantastic video
Did I miss it or did you explain how a Boston works
How do you enforce the renege(breaking suite when you can follow)? When four people are playing this, nobody gets to see the other person's hand.
Scout's honor. That's what I do whenever I play card games that require players to follow suit if they can. If I'm suspicious that a player is trying to pull a fast one, I make a mental note of when they broke suit and will call them out if it turned out they lied. Penalize them however you see fit.
Why would player A-1 throw the 10 of hearts instead of the 3 of hearts in the 1st hand?
Finally I understand!!!
What is bag used for actually?
I subscribed you channel. Very helpful. I learned spades 99 and 31 card game from here. But I am having confusion while playing spades that if I put 7 of club and opponent put down 5 or 6 of hearts. Then whose going to win that tricks. & Tell me about the suit rank also.
+Sanju Dutta The winner of the trick is the player who played the highest ranking spade. If no spade was played, the winner of the trick is the player who played the highest ranking card in the lead suit. For example, if clubs were led, the highest club wins the trick if no spades were played.
GatherTogetherGames thank you very much. I love the way you explain every details. Love from India
Trying to learn due to Covid-19 so let’s see here 🧐🤔
Thank you!!!
I haven't played this game but will try
GatherTogetherGames, I have some questions to ask you about your music:
1. How do I get the music?
2. Do you own the music?
3. What’s the tempo of this song?
Which type of card has the highest value The clubs, hearts, diamond,or spades
+Pedro Alvarez the spades are always trump and outrank the other suits. If no spades are played in the trick, the highest ranking card in the leading card suit wins the trick.
GatherTogetherGames but like which has higher value between clubs hearts or diamonds ;Is the hearts the second highest value then clubs then diamonds
+Pedro Alvarez It depends on the first card played in the trick. If a heart is led, and no spades are played, the highest ranking heart wins the trick. If a club is led, and no spades are played, the highest ranking club wins the trick. Same goes for diamonds. For example, let's say the 8 of clubs is led by player 1. Each player has to play a club if possible. Player 2 plays the 10 of clubs, but player 3 and 4 don't have any clubs. Player 3 plays the king of diamonds and player 4 plays the queen of hearts. Player 2 wins the trick with the highest ranking card in the lead suit (which was clubs for this trick).
This is actually very helpful and probably the only reason why I never understood how to play the game.
Watching this so I'm not left out in my next stint in rehab 😂
Great video
Thanks!
At 7:56 why was played D allowed to play a 5 of diamonds while still holding two trump spade suited cards? Terrific tutorial by the way. I was able to seamlessly start playing in my first game no problem; a video dedicated to spades strategy would be as equally helpful now.
When you can't follow suit, you're allowed to play any card. If you're trying not to exceed the number of tricks you've bid, you might waste a high card on one trick in order to avoid winning a trick with it later.
Is it supposed to play spade cards when we can't follow the previous suit? I learned it from the smartphone game version btw 😅
If you have no card of the same suit being led you can play whatever card including spades.
What if in a team player A plays a nil bid and accidentally recieves a trick but player B gets 4 of 5 tricks. They score -150 or 150? Same question for blind nil bids
+Pablo Ernesto Lagos Yampo the trick taken by the nil (or blind nil) bidder does not count towards his/her partner's bid. In your scenario the team would score -149 (-50 for player B; -100 + 1 sandbag for player A)
GatherTogetherGames thank you!!!
All is great but your points system and the player ac bd stuff. You could make the scoring parts sooooo much more simple.
Matthew McDonnell M.S. : Agreed, there were times that i didn't understand how he got the numbers he got. i would get 40 when he got 50
applying his rules.
can anyone help me with how scoring with nil bid is calculated. for example if i bid nil and my team mate bids 5. and then if i achieve my nil bid but my partner only manages 4 tricks. what would score calculation be in this scenario.
The score in your example is 50. 100 points for achieving your nil bid, minus 50 points for your partner going set on a 5 bid.
GatherTogetherGames thanks for the help and for making this fine tutorial .really helped me understand the game.
Gathertogethergames, what if player A bids 0 and actually makes 4 tricks while player B bids 2 and actually makes 1 trick. What will be the score and number of bags?
Assuming player A and player B are on the same team, they would score -116. A teams tricks are counted separately when a player bids nil. Player A would score -100 points for not making the nil bid, but would get 4 points for the 4 bags. This gives player A a total of -96 points. Player B would score -20 points for not making the 2 bid. Together they score -116.
Ty, great explanation. Love from India. :)
Why would you play the highest card in a suit that’s not the lead suit unless you’re the lead player? I’m confused by this example.
What version am I playing that doesn't have teams, spades don't trump, hearts give you points, the queen of spades is 13 points, you don't want points unless you're "shooting the moon"? I cannot find this version I learned anywhere.
This is the most dangerous card game ever
How do you know what bid to make and how do you read your team mate’s mind about how high of a bid to make?
It's complicated
tall us what happing if all players play for example king spades king heart king Clover
? in this case what will happen
King of spades wins
Unless you're playing joker joker deuce deuce, 2 of diamonds and 2 of spades are the second highest cards after joker... right?
🙌🏽 Right ! ♠️
My fav game
Hold up how exactly do u bid I don't understand that ....
Hello!
When you bid, you bid the number of tricks you think you will win. There isn't exactly a strategy for bidding, you really just toss out numbers. If you fail to fulfill your bid, you lose ten times the number of tricks you bid.
For example, if I bid 5, but fail to win 5 tricks, I lose 50 points.
Is there a good app to help keep track of scoring?
Question on the blind nil. I thought I have played it where if you call out for a blind nil, you also get to give your partner your crappiest card in exchange for their best card to help out the blind nil chance..or something like that? Has anyone played it like that?
No
can anyone tell me Every card name i am on a school project i did not find on google
Does suit allways beat number???
Spades are always trump, and will beat any number in the other suits. If multiple spades are played, the highest numbered spade will win the trick. If no spades were played, the highest numbered card in the suit that was led will win the trick.
GatherTogetherGames ok thanks
I’m cutting up at the bbq this summer lol
what if a player has a suit that is played but it's a low card and they need to win so they cheat and say they are out of that suit and then play a spade and win? How would you ever know if they are lying? You do not show your cards right?
You eventually have to play all of the cards from your hand, so that low card would be revealed by the end.
please don’t
listen to this 😂 he giving away books
LMAO samething I just said. its a good reference but dont play like this at the bbq u gon get cooked for sure
If you don't have the same suit. Why would you play a high ranking card of another suit instead of a lower ranking card?
If you are confident that you will make your bid, you may want to throw away a high ranking card to avoid getting a bag.
You would actually cut it with a spade unless your partner is going to win the book (never used the term trick)
Isn't this similar to french tarot?
I want to learn Indian card games please make videos on it
What if both teams get 513 in same round?
This is Casino Version slighty altered from the hood version but wise to know both lol
I still don't get it
Me neither 🤔
Simply because this video is obsurb
The more you play the more you will
Neither do I 😕
I don’t either
umm .. please inbox i have questions 😐
I’m thinking people have a lot of personal house rules such as taking out club 2 and diamond 2 for spade and heart to trump ace of spades as well as include jokers. Anyone else have unique rules to spades?
Yes in Hawaii we play trumps! We play with 12 cards and 4 extra in the middle. You bid around the table a number from 3-7 if you want. (You also have an option to pass) 7 being the highest. You can then call your own trump suit which everyone has to follow. The winning bid also gets the 4 cards in the middle and is able to switch out any of his cards with any of the 4 if he chooses to. You then put the 4 leftover cards (trash) to the side after you’re done switching. To win the game you have to take the number you bid let’s say for example I bid 3. You subtract it from 8 which is 5. So I bid 3 that means me and my teammate has to stop the other team from making 5 tricks or packs before the 12 cards In our hand run out. The higher the bid you go, the less packs the other team has to make. But if you win the bid you get to call the trump suit and look at the 4 middle cards that may or may not help you.
that's how many black people play
I never played blind nil. We play a blind 8. If you dont make the 8 then you are set. 2 sets and you lose the game. To be set is how you lose.
Antone else here from Lockdown 23and1?
Lol me
Helpful but I wish you slowed down a bit and zoomed in more on cards.
How come Jacks are not counted ?
There are 13 cards of each suit. By the 3rd time a suit goes around there is a higher probability that somebody is void and Queens and Jacks will get trumped.
Here in 2020 corona virus quarantine in Los Angeles! Hopefully in the future ppl will see this and we will be waaayyyy last this
I lived in the projects for a few years... they use really wacky rules. And they do not suffer fools lightly... on more than one occaision, the whole table just quit, because I couldn't comprehend their byzantine house rules.
They were probably playing the 3 highest cards were, Big Joker, Little Joker and 2 of spades. Instead of Ace Spades, King Spades and Queen Spades being the highest.
@@coreyadams1982 Thanks for responding... I don't think so though. There was something about the first hand. Like if you didn't make book on the first hand, the game was immediately lost. I don't know though, you could be right. It was rules I had never played by before.
I didn't understand the importance of that first hand. When I learned to play in college, you could fail to make book but then keep trying to claw your way back. The black folks I was playing with had some sort of house rules I didn't understand. I dunno man.. thanks though.
The version on my computer, Hoyle Card Games 2014 Edition, also declares you the winner if the opposing side accumulated -300.
In The first hand you must To play The lowest card of flowers that you have
