This Summer, while observing birds of all kind, I have come away with a newly found respect for them, their lives, and their intelligence. Each year, the return of this American Robin family to mate and nest, signifies the beginning of Spring. Their general behavior can be similar to humans. Although being socially monogamous, the female does exhibit a preference for males that act responsibly as parents. Each robin might make about 100 trips for 'baby food' per day! In addition, they can have two broods in one year. So if the father guards the first brood of fledglings , that is already out of the nest but still learning to feed and fly, the mother can better focus on starting the second nesting cycle. To help protect these wonderful birds, it is important to keep cats far away and to not use any harmful chemicals on grass or trees.
