Warren Zevon for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
This song was last one on Zevon's last album, The Wind. Two weeks after it won Best Contemporary Folk Grammy, Zevon died of cancer (2003). A bunch of big names in music knew he was terminal and they helped him get this album done. Much heart and respect. You guys have added to Warren's legacy.

Dammit. Three hours ago I hadn't heard of you. A friend posted your CBS Saturday Morning performance and a commenter said you're coming to Hummelstown PA on June 12. I started watching videos, loving every one. Then this. Now I'm sitting here with a tightening throat and burning eyes. This is one of the best songs ever written, and you are killing it. If you don't do it at The Englewood, I will let the air out of your van tires. [Edit: just kidding about the tires. But really, play this.]

Awesome. Zevon lives. I was always grateful to Letterman when Warren was on for the last time. He was at the end and answers didn't come quickly. Dave waited, while I'm sure producers were yelling in his ear.
