- (Aug. 21, 2021) Unbeaten featherweight contender Mark Magsayo stops former world champion Julio Ceja via tenth-round knockout in their WBC Featherweight Title Eliminator.
In a star-making performance, Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo (23-0, 16 KOs) of the Philippines scored a spectacular knockout of Julio Ceja (32-5-1, 28 KOs), putting the former world champion away in the 10th round of their WBC Featherweight Title Eliminator.
It looked it might be an early night when a counter left hook from Magsayo floored Ceja in the first. Mexico’s Ceja gamely rose and worked his way back into the fight, slowing Magsayo down with combinations to the ribs.
Ceja’s work paid off late in the fifth when a left uppercut introduced Magsayo to the canvas. The 26-year-old slugger made it to his feet. The bell sounded moments later.
Ceja attacked the body with abandon in the sixth and seventh but it was Magsayo who found his second wind late. His fast hands and feet allowed him to dictate the action in the eighth. He enjoyed an even better ninth, flashing his left in the forms of jabs and hooks.
With the fight seemingly hanging in the balance, Magsayo let it all hang out in the tenth. As Ceja sought refuge along the ropes, Magsayo uncorked a picture perfect one-two flush on the Mexican’s jaw. Ceja sagged to the mat, helped along the way by another right. No count was needed. Referee Kenny Bayless ended the bout at 0:50 of the 10th round.

Magsayo please learn how to move your head. More improvements for the better for every fight will be tougher and tougher.
A fighter who have a tough goal, will undergo a more tougher fight. So please more improvements for your Footwork and Head Movements.
On the other hand, Ceja is such a warrior and have a good stands great movement really, it just happens magsayo outbox him by power.

He needs to improve his stamina though. He gasses out quickly in the early rounds, which can cost him being hit alot. The Figueroa fight showed this.

the adjustment freddie roach made by clinching and locking ceija's hands when he attacks the body was the key, gave magsayo a lot of breather and recovery..brilliant coach
Also the the way magsayo puts all his weight on ceja's neck right before the ref warned him again about doing that really hurt ceja it threw his equilibrium off for a min. Go back and look at the dirty shit he did LoL I liked magsayo too , that ass beating and loosing in the cards will make a fighter do some filthy things either way they both were humbled that night RT 💯

It's never been illegal. The previous round before that though, Ceja walked in a couple of left hooks. His equilibrrhas been in question at that point.

Defence ang laro ni maysayo. Casimero on the other hand is offence. If you notice magsayo always on the ring side while Casimero is always offensive.
Honestly I had Magsayo behind it the fight. He was throwing one punch at a time and very few to the body. He took so many body shots that I was surprised when he had enough in the tank for the KO. He needs a lot of work on his defense. He spent too much time on the ropes getting his ribs banged on. Cejas has no shame in this loss. He had a warrior’s performance.
Would've been robbed anyway, but it seems that his take no prisoners style of fighting is making him lose fights...
Cejas too needs to his refine his defense. He is definitely capable of a better performance with a few tweaks in his approach, but he was definitely consistently accurate and applied constant pressure. Cejas definitely has good conditioning

The damage started in the previous round when Mark landed some strong right hands. If you notice Ceja's face when he started round 10, his face was swollen on the Left side and his left eye was nearly closed. I find it amusing that the so called expert commentators did not notice this and also the one right that sent Ceja stumbling at about 2.15 minutes of the 10th. He was badly damaged and did not recover. Credit to Mark M for seeing the effects of his right hand and swiftly finishing Ceja. This fight made me a fan of Mark.

Ceja exposed Mark's weak defense. It's not that he has a weak body, it's just that he has poor defense, footwork and stance. Magsayo is also doing too much rhythm step, a bad habit that should be corrected asap.

Hmmm I find really weird how Magsayo goes from being really tired, literally pushing his punches and in the 10th he naturally comes out really explosive 🤔

He wasn't tired he was hurt from the body shots in round 5 where he took a ton of body shots that got him to kneel. You can see throughout the rounds he started clinching more to avoid taking those body shots which really worked and he slowly recovered in those 5 rounds, conserving his stamina for that final outburst in round 10 when, like some of the higher voted comments in this thread mentioned, he noticed Ceja was hurt from his head shots the previous round, and took advantage of that plus his closing up left eye to deliver that final finishing flurry.
I saw your fight with Ceja. He was hit several tiemes on the head but he seemed ok. Suggest you increase the power heaviness of your punches. Aim for the jaw always.
