- So this one was has a bit of story behind it.
Last Friday I got contacted out of the blue by the creator of the show "The Blacklist." There was a very important final scene in the the season finale, and there was suddenly an issue with the music that was slated to go along with it. I was asked if I could come up with something for the scene over the weekend, as it was due to air on Wednesday. But it was a long cue -- about 5 minutes. We had never spoken before that moment, but they've featured me on the show multiple times and it's been a really big reason that people have heard of me at all. So of course I was happy to at least try.
I got a cut of the scene, some notes about the tone and the mood, and then the work started. Writing to cues is a bit different than writing songs, because the tempo and mood have to fit something that already exists. It's about amplifying a mood instead of generating it from scratch. So just sorting the structure can take a lot of time. I could also tell right from the start that I'd need strings on this, so I asked Josh, my partner, to help me come up with some cello parts. He's really great at playing emotively, so we got all that sorted in a couple hours. The rest was a blur. But it's fun to just move sometimes and go entirely with gut responses. There wasn't time to second guess anything. And luckily it was all moods and tones that are well within my wheelhouse.
To jump to the end, the piece worked out well and was accepted. And since it will have already aired before I put out my next newsletter, I am uploading it early.

Don’t know wether the Liz’s death scene made this background music so much heart-touching or this music made that scene just so much heart-shattering. But Blacklist brought me here to search for this masterpiece. One of the beautiful piece of music I listened ever. ❤️

But after Liz's death, I don't think Red could find a way to live with it 💔 that is too much to carry. After all of this, it will never be a happy ending. He will never have a happy ending. It's so sad. After all of things they and we have been through 😭
@@alexislee262 idk I think he could easily shift his focus to protecting Agnes. He has the task force he can trust who love Liz and would probably be willing to protect her blessed daughter. But hopefully he does better protecting Agnes than he did Liz, but I think the task force will keep him in check

The most beautiful thing about your music is that, when I was watching that episode for the first time, it only took a few seconds before I knew you made the song. Even without lyrics there's just something so uniquely "you" about your music. I've been battling severe depression due to PTSD for over 15 years now ever since my mom died. I've pushed away more than one amazing woman who tried to build a life with me in part because of that rage inside me. This song is powerful. I just heard it on the show "The Blacklist" when one of the major character dies in the arms of her mother....it moved me to tears.
I wish I could go back in time and help me listen to the voice in my head that told me to hold on to the woman who loved me. I would give my life for that

One of my favorite shows of all time. My dad and I have watched it for a very long time. I sobbed on the last two episodes of season 8😂. The soundtrack for the blacklist was awesome as well. This song is proof

When The Blacklist streamed this song on the Season Finale I knew instantly it was from Radical Face and to no avail cause I cried hard and still am until now. I will always remember the scene when I listen to this song. Radical Face is spectacular! ❤

I was blown away by the scene, by the moment and now think it's one of the most touching final scenes I've ever seen, and it's due to this music. Not just the story and the amazing actors.
Adding music to stories told on film is an art for itself, one I have been studying for ages on my own, Soundtracks are a big passion of mine)
My guess would be, the people who make that choice at Blacklist are about my age or ten years older, and were brought up by parents who were open for ALL sorts of music.

There are so many Radical Face songs featured on the Blacklist. The show introduced me to them and I’ve been a huge fan ever since. I remember hearing them for the first time on season 2 of the Blacklist where the blacklister was Tom Keen and the song that played at the end was ¨Always Gold¨. Anyone remember? Lol

We do the the podcast for the show and I can say this was an amazing piece of music! You nailed it, and such a great story since the the very first episode the pilot featured "Welcome Home". Welcome Home is one of my favourite songs ever. Buy i think it was not in the pilot episode but in the episode where Sam died and the song plays during his funeral scene.

After reading the description, I just cannot fathom the ability and skill it took to come up with such an emotionally moving piece 5 days before the air date.. and to note it was mostly impromptu is even more amazing.

Never heard of black list but this song came up on my long drive back from calling hours for a coworkers teenage daughter who took her own life. Heartbreaking. when I heard this song I felt like it was this young girl…with the pain she felt and the demons she couldn’t escape. Intensely genius music…❤️

You never failed to destroy my emotions, even though I am listening since ghost, you keep hitting me right in the feels I need. There is so much bad stuff going on in everybodies lives and you just keep providing either band-aids or methods to squeeze the pain out of the source for people who are not yet ready for the band aid. The time I saw you live (Netherlands) you had broken your bones, sat on a chair and still made me cry throughout the whole set; made and still make me feel love for my brother (especially always gold), my parents and family, my love at the time and my best friend who has since passed away. When I search for the blacklist liz death music, I am so impressed that it is Radical face who made this masterpiece. Throughout the series, all the songs that I searched for were creations of Radical Face. I almost always put it in my facebook story and keep recommending it to my friends. Man! I heard songs of you before, but Blacklist brought you back on my radar again.
Your music fits in perfectly, because it is so humble yet so powerful.
There is magnetic touch to the arrangements.
"Baptisms" is one of my favorites, my own "inner jukebox" plays it many times, spontaniously.
Say Hi to Josh, if it is him I am hearing o the strings.
Whoever makes the musical choices on "The Blacklist" seems to have a good feel for musical depth and I have wanted to congratulate him or her so many times for so many awesome choices.
(One of my favorite music moments is actually Wolfmother with "The Joker & The Thief" where Red screws uses a bank robbery to his own advantage.)
Being a TV series junkie AND a music lover, the Blacklist was a revelation for me. I am busy with season 8 right now, please no spoilers, I have to rely on not-qite-legal-streaming for that until Netflix follows up.
It became an incredible inspiration in the (musical) part of my life.
