I was around a lot of NBA players due to my association with an agent. I was surprised by the height discrepancies.
Saw CJ McCollum in the tunnel and he's a legit 6'4" in shoes. Mo Harkless was easily 6'9" in shoes passing him on the baseline
Fully agreed. I believe Mo is around 6'8 barefoot. We went to the same college, I started after he declared for the draft, but he came to workout during the summers and we chatted a couple times. He's the man.

The NBA players in West’s era (the 60s) were measured with their shoes off, bare foot. By the 90s NBA players were measured with their shoes on.
For instance Wilt and Shaq are both listed as 7 foot one inch. But in pictures taken together Wilt is clearly taller than Shaq.

In college I got to see players up close and judge them by my own height and was shocked at how short they were. Douglas Edwards who was a hot prospect out of Florida State was at least two or three inches shorter than his listed 6'9". Christian Laettner was maybe 6'9", not 6'11". Eric Montross on the other hand was a full 7'0" Probably an inch or two more. I was like is this professional wrestling or something?

It depends on the shoes the are wearing because not only the extra padding in the shoes but the orthotics that they wear in the shoes too.
If you're trying to actually figure out exact height in comparison to other players you need more than a couple pictures. You need a lot of pictures and they need to be wearing pretty much the same shoe if they're wearing shoes at all. In the pictures with Serge ibaka KD and Russell Westbrook, KD looks taller in the picture on the left but he looks shorter in the picture on the right. I'm guessing they're right around the same size because ibaka isn't standing up straight on the picture on the left. My guess is that ibaka is a little more than a half an inch taller than KD. I just started this video but I have a feeling you're going to use one or two photos to try to make a case when like I said earlier you need a lot of different angles and you need a constant which is the same height shoe. On top of that you have to make sure the guy standing up as straight as possible.😊

Shoes add anywhere between 1 and 1 1/4 inches of height depending on make and style. Also some players are longer than others. That is why wingspan(arm length) matters. Kevin Willis for example had short arms and Scottie Pippen had long arms. Kevin was at least 4 inches taller in height but Pippen was longer because of wingspan.
Something kind of crazy that I just noticed. I'm just under 6 ft. I'm in my late 50's and I've had three back surgeries so I went from 6 ft till like 5:11 and 3/4. None the less I have the same shoe size as Michael Jordan who is basically 6ft 5. Now if I could only jump like he did.😊

They are not lying. Its just about the instrument, how they were measured, when, the age factor where you may stop to grow at 17 or at 23-24. Also the play basketball factor where you can win few cm while constantly practicing and playing, to lose them when you stop to play.
The bigger differences can be one measure with basketball shoes and the other without, one at 18 and other at 23, plus with or without shoes.
Smaller one like Klay can just be the same... Like 6'6,5 for both and one was rounded to 6'6 while the other to 6'7.
The odds of this way to see the things where everybody is lying at same time to win or lose half inch to 1 or 2 It's just the the worse spot ever, as all those guys have their measures and weight controled in regular basis. Im saying not only those ones, but bicpes, torax, quadriceps and so on.

Take in mind that they not take their own measures alone into a secret place where no one can see them. They have their measurements taken by professionals from their teams and were informed of the results. They would not "lye" about this as their teams know the correct info and also will discover that this player is a lyer that can lye for a silly reason.
