ALCS/NLCS Review: Philadelphia is UNSTOPPABLE + Scherzer's Back

  • Carl and Klemmer react to the ALCS and NLCS through 2 games and look ahead to the next slate of match ups. Does it even matter for the Phillies? They look unstoppable after another DBacks beating. Meanwhile the Rangers survive the first 2 games in Houston and now they get Scherzer back. Is Christian Javier really as bad as his season numbers? Who would you bet on Game 3? We don't know either. Thanks for tuning in.

    Hot garbage take on the playoff structure. The best teams win period. Stop making excuses for these teams that lost. The time off is the reward for playing better in order to get healthy. If it was reversed and those teams lost and had less time off then you would be saying that they need time to get healthy and get their starters rest. Just stop with the excuses

      In every other sport wildcards and lower seeds winning are celebrated. It makes it more exciting. Baseball pundits are boring and terrible at their job. You tell a casual this is bad for the sport they will probably believe you and stop watching because you're basically telling them it's a bad product.

    Phillies fans were like this. There’s a reason why the city greases the poles & that’s because of the win in 2008 (there’s CZcams videos.)
    Remember, 2008 was before High Definition, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok & iPhones were only a year old.

    Top teams have been losing well before the week off. Phillies 2011 won 104 and lost in the division round .

    Can we start addressing that the NL teams with byes in the playoffs haven't played a meaningful game in MONTHS prior? It's not just the days off. Phillies, Dbacks, Rangers, and Astros were battling until the end of the regular season. It's hard to flip a switch to get back into do or die mode.

      So how come at the start of the regular season there is no trouble? They haven't played a meaningful game in months before that either.

      @@joshuasimber8588 I remember the same thing happening to the 2011 Phillies. Big lead in division. Coasted into playoffs. Got absolutely obliterated by a hot STL team who were playing essentially playoff games for 3 weeks prior.

    “Why aren’t they running”
    I keep hearing that. Look, the Snakes are fast. They can run. They can swipe bases. Buuuut, that Realmuto guy is a hell of a weapon behind the plate, and Arizona isn’t stupid.
    In the first game Wheeler threw straight gas. In the second, Nola’s improved slide doesn’t allow for much of a jump. Pair that with Realmuto’s pop time and cannon of an arm, and its not as easy as it looks to take a chance on losing a runner trying to take that base even though the new rules give them a better shot.
    Could Arizona capitalize? Absolutely. But it’s more of a risk against Realmuto than just about anybody else in the league. He’s among the best at getting the ball the 2nd in a hurry.

    • @joshuasimber8588
      @joshuasimber8588 Před 10 měsíci

      Yep, plus they thought Nola's slide effects his pitching and it would benefit their offense. Just going by what they said

    I think it’s a bit too early to change the playoff structure. Give it a few years and then see what the data says.

    Did Klemmer enjoy watching MLB during Covid?? Watch highlights from the 2020 playoffs & try telling yourself it’s the same as experience watching v. other postseasons.
    If MLB wants to thrive and grow, you need to market to more casual fans too. You think every woman wants to watch the Super Bowl Game? No. But she’ll buy a jersey, go to a SB party, looking forward to the Halftime Show.
    Remember the 2009 World Series, Yankees & Phillies? They had Jay-Z & Alicia Keys performing but I haven’t seen it done again since Meek Mill last year.

  • @joshuasimber8588
    @joshuasimber8588 Před 10 měsíci

    The time off and not playing a meaningful game in weeks prior because you clinched early is not an excuse. How come these teams hit fine at the beginning of the season? They had way more time off before the regular season started and no meaningful games prior either. Literally months off. If you think 4-5 days off effects a team, then you're just in denial. Everyone has 4-5 days off at some point in the playoffs, you're not special. Plus its equivalent to missing 2 games in the regular season, which players do all the time.
    Also, yes the crowd matters and has an effect on the teams. Opponents have admitted it. The Phillies thrive off the energy. Free agents want to play in Philly because of it. Its not that they are just loud, its that they are constantly rowdy and obnoxiously talking trash to you until you break and then they got you, example - Arcia. It's almost impossible to ignore or mimic it to prepare for it. It's easy to tune out cheering when it's a consistent cheer. it's not easy when the fans are coming at you aggressively with content that you thought no one knew about. It's a pulse, everyone standing, crazy environment, 45000 against you. It's not like other environments where fans are, "yayyy go, team!" It's a whole different thing. Their win percentage at CBP is unmatched for a reason.

      It's mind blowing lol Braves in 2021 won it all after 4 days off. Difference is they were battling until the end of the reg season, unlike this year when they locked up the NL East in June. I remember the 2011 Phillies being by far the best NL team and got rocked by a hot STL team. Nobody gave a shit then. Why now?
