    A lot of people dont understand nor appreciate. This master is not from a family of sarangi players, he has never been given the respect or recognition he deserves. Sarangi is kept to the gharanas passed from one generation to another. Khandhani musicians of sarangi dont teach. Dhruba ghosh was one of the first sarangi players to break this norm. Sarangi is the most technical instrument and he mastered it with no traditional talim, something that has never been achieved

    That modern classic singers tend to shun sarangi, that’s to a great detriment of their performance. Instead, they replace it with harmonium which does not even remotely approaches the richness of sarangi voice. It is a folksy instrument that entered Indian music about 130 years ago. As a result, ragas accompanied by harmonium sound like ghazals performed by an itinerant singer in Lahore market
