Continuing the series, I take a look at all the changes Nicktoons made to Dragon Ball Z Kai when it broadcast in the early 2010's.
This video covers the first quarter of the Frieza Arc.

The funny thing is, from what I’ve heard, most of these edits weren’t actually mandated by Nicktoons.
The more I watch these the more I think about how tiring/repetitive it must've of been for the voice actors to have to re-do so many lines.
It's called a job. It's very tiring/repetitive but it pays the bills.
I agree, though sometimes it could result in a better performance because they get the opportunity to perfect their lines for TV. That's just my opinion though.
goku saying he doesn't want to fight someone if he doesn't have to is the least dragonball thing I've ever heard.
He did have Freeza to worry about afterwards and had no senzu beans left.

Are the VAs getting two paychecks to dub two different versions of an episode (uncut and US Nicktoons)?

Lol I just watched the episode on the thumbnail last night. Goku throwing the frog for Ginyu to transfer to it's body and vise versa. Hope to see the changes and edits made to the original Dragon Ball on Toonami someday.
Did you know DBZ Kai had different music on Toonam and DVD/Blu-ray.
The music replacement didn’t happen on DVD & Blu-Ray until Part 5.
I liked how Frieza simply said "chief" rather than "fat." What a G, and Vegeta, the last section, said a bunch of terrible things. I could see why they chose not to change that particular section; if they had, the lip sync wouldn't correspond to it as well, and the event wouldn't make sense.

I actually perfer the chief line. The fat line seems more a Vegeta thing to say.
@@RondoOfBloodX Yeah, Frieza seems like he can be relatively polite unless someone is defying him or just greatly disappointing him. That's part of what made him so terrifying in his first appearance, absolutely mannered towards the elder but making it clear he'll casually slaughter them all if they don't cooperate.
Thank you for the memories Akira Toriyama... Yes Nicktoons broadcast basically with FCC tv standards in USA vs Blu Ray version as usual. Still awesome seeing Goku vs burter and jess 😅😅😅
One change I actually really like is when Goku goes Super Saiyan for the first time, they change “bastard” to “monster”

Maybe it’s nostalgia, but Sean Schemmel delivers it so well I think it fits better.

I dunno, the whilhem scream is kinda overused and distracting so I don't think it's much of a loss, though I do wonder why they even bothered changing it.

Even if you don't like the Japanese original Akira Toriyama conceived character voices and prefer a different dub,
you are sacrificing a lot more correct translation.
Almost all other Dragonball dubs are filled with translation errors, misrepresentations of phrases, character names, and more.
What is more important for you?

The American dub is the most popular other dub of Dragonball at the moment,
and it's just TOTAL ERRORS.
There were a huge number of translation errors in this dub, almost to the point that the American dub can be considered a separate language of Dragonball, a separate franchise.

this is why hate funimation for dubbing dragon ball. Can you name a Single Dubbing company that has milked a franchise as dry as this one? They've never even had the best voices from the start and if they had they've made those actors/actresses redo the same line a dozen times to the point that they've basically rewrote goku as japanese superman instead of a guy who likes fighting and getting stronger.
Have you actually watched Kai? They fixed the Superman thing.
@@chrisdelgado4621 Nah, I'm tired of the whole Funimation dub/redub thing. I'm sure they'll make a new Uncut, Perfect, Blu-ray release in a year or so but it doesn't change anything. Same bland voice actors reiterating the same line just with safer wording. So no.

The manga had a lot of swearing too, so it makes sense that Kai would retain it.
And even if you don’t like the swearing in uncut, is it really worth dealing with the reduced violence and constant sugarcoating of death?
