I learned to pot, to throw clay in form, many decades ago. I can still readily throw porcelain vessels, still proven by occasional visits to my big sister's home potshop only a few blocks away from here.
I am aware of different glazes used in different areas of the world. My first master teacher, a white man from Minnesota, taught me of KOREAN means which he learned of while living there for decades,, and he warned me of various glazes and clay bodies utilized there and here.
Some vessels seeming-ling un-glazed still retain different elements impregnated before and then during and after the firing process. Many various elements and items are still incorporated into the vessel.
My second master teacher taught me small fire, pit fire fed by horse and cow chips, and blackened carved and burled earthenware in the means of New Mexican Santa Clara/ San Ildefonso style. Bless my beloved surrogate mother Ms. Montoya and her family for their patience with me over that extended period of time.
My third master teacher, a white woman from northern Iowa, taught me of more widely used clay bodies and more intricate glazes, more expensive glazes that were not toxic and actually more resilient over time. Basic elements that when mixed to solvency could be applied to a vessel. When applied at huge heat for a day-long period they became as one with the vessel.
The major difference between them all was the monetary expense, the immediacy of materials, the labor involved with the elements utilized, and then the more extensive firing time required throughout the entire process.
After years of study and education I became aware of not only size, shape, form, and various construction, but also the material based upon appropriate usage as well.
My advice to people is understand the product as it is produced, where it is produced, how THEY CARE for providing it towards others, and then how y9ou might utilize it appropriately when it involves a means regarding your consumption.

OH WOW!! This is such great information and so very useful for me and others, who are trying to not just eat healthier, but also, help preserve this planet (clay is literally earthen cookware), as well as preserve the art and support this pottery/art business and the artists. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise on this channel. You have so much knowledge in clay pots - never could have imagined!
BTW, I am getting a lead test kit to test my Mexican clay pots - another wonderful, caring subscriber emailed me her concern about lead, which I was also aware of...but she informed me about home lead-test kits. I am going to do that before I use these...:) Love my subscribers!..:) Plz. keep sharing more of your knowledge here anytime you feel like!. Have a great day! -Somyata

Thanks for your sweet feedback! As for using these on glass top, I am not sure. You might need to buy a heat diffuser and I think, search online or on amazon and see what others are saying about it.
Have you checked my website? I have a whole article and more on clay pots - it will help you a lot. Also, as for lead test, it was done and there is a video for it. Check this video out & subscribe if you haven't as I have clay pots recipes coming soon now..:) Do check out the website - you will absolutely love the valuable resources on it. Definitely..but you need to get a heat diffuser. Research and perhaps, when you buy your clay pots, then do ask the seller some key questions! Good luck.
