A grocery store seems like it should be a relatively low risk security job too. Dealing with shoplifters, Karens, the occasional day drunk. Obviously all security work has risks, but it’s not like he was working protection or bouncing for a tough nightclub or even working bank security where you have to anticipate the chance of armed robbery.
Poor guy didn’t sign up to be in a warzone, he was just trying to work. But he faced a killer with bravery. Wish he didn’t have to :( RIP

I’m at the gun range twice a month, I train martial arts (Boxing, Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I wrestled in high school as well), so you would think that I’d have a super cop complex but I’m actually very laidback. So all of my coworkers know this about me, YET I prefer the, as you said, low risk posts/jobs of security. I can’t tell you how many security guards I have met who like to get into fights or are quick to reach for their guns over something so minor and stupid. Guards who complain about “boring posts” and wanting to be around action all the time. I’m like dude, are you fucking kidding me? I am not about to get into a fight with someone let alone a shootout, on behalf of a company that sees me as an expendable being and will NOT have my back in court, and also doesn’t pay me enough either. People hate security guards for a reason, because so many guards are police academy rejects who are on power trips that want to be in these ridiculous action movie type scenarios. But when it comes to situations like these where shit gets real, then these guards will freeze up. I know I rambled but my point is that I appreciate my life, the life of others, as well as my “boring low risk posts” that so many guards love to complain about, because you just never know when things can go left. That man was just making an honest living and it’s a damn shame.

The shooter is a self-proclaimed White Supremacist as stated in his manifesto. The shooter livestreamed his attack. On the first page he used the Symbol of the "Black Sun". The "Black Sun" symbol, is a hate symbol. This same symbol is used by the Nazi group The Azov Battalion in Ukraine. The shooter, goes over in detail what weapons he used and his gear, along with why he did the attack, and how he was going to carry it out. The attack is currently being investigated by law enforcement agencies as a terror attack and hate crime. The shooter is currently in custody.

He was 110% cognizant and aware of exactly what the consequences of his actions would be, however has already created his own internal justifications for any scenario that plays out, clearly stating that if he DOESN’T get released and hailed as a hero within his lifetime - it’s not because everyone sees how utterly evil and dysfunctional of a creature he is but rather because he “failed to save his people” by not attacking sooner because it means the “enemies” have already taken over the system by being considered human beings.
He himself stated that he had a great life and childhood without any issues. The whole entire motive of his shooting WAS to inspire others to do the same in the name of pure hate. This is a different kind of cat entirely than your typical school shooter that gets pushed to their breaking point...

As a security guard this really hurt my heart because most these places don’t get law enforcement because they don’t want to pay .. but security be in danger from banks to grocery stores & we have no benefits or protection.. most time when we do feel away about something our company tell us to leave it alone or you’ll lose your job 😪

it depends on whether you are an armed security guard or unarmed and unlicensed to carry a gun --that killed security guard was a former law enforcement officer --therefore his employer would not tell him to mind his own business when protecting the stores assets or people...!

Agreed. All of the teachers I know in K-12 education are seeing upticks in anger and aggression among kids and adults in classrooms and at meetings. I've seen an escalation in physical violence and hate crimes among kids at my own school, which has historically had low incidences of such situations. Unless meaningful change is made to tone down the divisive bitterness and prioritize mental health on a national scale, we're in for a bumpy ride.

This feels so much different when it hits close to home….. I was at that tops an hour before, had a conversation with the security guard in there, left and was on my way back to use the bathroom. Right before I got across the street I hear the shooting and take cover, I talked to the first victim right before this happened, I knew her from before. And she seemed to be having a rough day you can see in the video her head was down and she looked upset, it’s so heartbreaking her last moments on this earth was full of sorrow. When I saw the aftermath and she was on the ground I didn’t even realized it was her, I thought she was a male because of the angle and come to find out it was her, it’s hard for me to process this still. I easily could’ve been another number on the victims list. And it’s makes me so upset how he’s getting all this attention while the victims are swept under the rug and forgotten……………

In the video that the kid shot of him doing the horrible act, he shot everyone with no hesitation and no remorse, almost as if it were a game to him and what makes me truly confirm this was racially targeted is as he is shooting these people with no hesitation, a white man that he was about to kill begs for his life and the kid quickly says “Sorry” and moves on…he was definitely targeting a specific category of people because I see no other way or reason to that action

I am from Croatia and I immigrated to Canada 15 years ago. I live in a town close to the U.S border(20 min by car). Yet I have never been to the U.S. Shootings are one of the reasons I dont want to visit.
As an African American, I am happy to see the authorities reporting exactly what this was, EVIL. Many times things are minimized because of the color of the shooter, which also diminishes the value of minorities as humans. I appreciate everyone from the president to local authorities taking a stand against violence against everyone and anyone, that is what it means to be in an America that stands for all not some. I pray for the families and their strength to get through the tough times ahead. This is truly sad. We have to remember that the hate you feel for someone because they are different is factitious. We are all human and want the same things, to love, to be loved, to be respected, to live, to be happy, to prosper, to raise our children in peace, to have jobs, a nice and clean place to live, family that loves us and someone to grow old with.
