Maybe he will get worse in later episodes, but I really do not understand the hate for the 4th prince. Up until very late on, he never threw his brothers under the bus even when he had opportunities to do so, at times even actively covering for them despite them being in an opposite group. Like how he attempted to help them cover their tracks during the bribery issue, but the one brother was too stupid to take the hint and at least pretend to be law abiding or protected the alibi of the prince who snuck off to the hunting ground to meet with 8th. Even with the prior crown prince, he mostly just stood aside and let the guy destroy himself. He only seemed to actively begin working towards succession because 8th and his men used the information they shared to save Ruo Xi from marriage to attack him, even though he had never harmed them before, and 13th took the fall for it. He just wanted to save the one brother who understood him as a person. 14th literally lacks the emotional capacity in this drama to be Emperor because he thinks he can just brute force every problem, and his awful mother turned her back on her own son just because he was raised by someone else, something he had no ability to change. All that mattered was her own son being Emperor. Probably because he would readily do whatever she wanted, even though 4th had always tried his best to be respectful to her even though she was so cold to him. She and 14th were the ones who treated him like an outsider even though they were his own flesh and blood and he became Emperor to not only save the one brother that was genuinely good to him, but because he was also the only one who had any ability to rule effectively. The others are all too selfish, impulsive, or outright foolish to ever have been good rulers and would have just been constantly deceived by corrupt officials, stabbed in the back by a craftier brothers or been vicious tyrants. 4th may have stolen the throne in this depiction, but honestly he was the only one worthy of it and is constantly spat on by people who wanted the throne for the status, not for the responsibility that came with it.

He helped his 4th brother to complete more than 100 reforms beneficial to the country and the people in just 10 years. He died in his life. In front of the 4th brother, he was exhausted by the busy prime minister's work
It's annoying that Ruoxi is so indecisive, but I can understand since she was literally thrown into a life where she has almost no control of her future. And the few choices she could choose between weren't even things she really wanted. You have to remember that she didn't even want to get married in the first place, but since she knew she would have to eventually, she chose 4th prince since she knew he would be emperor (and c'mon, who wouldn't in her situation?). I think she grew to love him after seeing his real personality and how caring and loyal he is. But it's still hard for her since she never wanted any of this (to get married or get married to someone who's already married) to begin with but she was left with barely any good choices. I guess she could've asked the emperor to let her leave the palace but even then she would just get sent home and her future would then be in the hands of her father who she doesn't even know :/
In my humble opinion, she was never indecisive. She didn't "choose" 4rth from the start. She merely (in a very dumb and able to be misunderstood way) wanted to never offend the 4rth because she was someone from the 8ths household (who is 4rths future sworn enemy). She did this by making sure she understood all his likes and dislikes, which could be misunderstood easily as the actions of someone who has a crush on him. She also preferred 8th because of his gentleness and whatnot but couldn't be brave enough to like him because she was her brother in-law. As for 8th (Probably only liked Ruoxi because she was treated like a more cheerful version of Ruolan. He probably truly loved Ruolan), he never truly trusted and treated Ruoxi as an equal. In a way, what Ruoxi asked (to choose her or his ambitions) sped up what was a failed romance in the first place. That whole process lasted like, a few weeks at most. She was heartbroken and gave up soon after. She really wanted to be with 4rth for 10 plus years. She never hesitates. Even till her last breath, she loved him. What she didn't love was what becoming an emperor made him. She once said something along the lines of "I love him, but I can't bear to hurt people". This first begins when her best friend Yu Tan was killed. That's also why she says in her last letter to the 4rth, "there is no emperor in my heart, only the own who stole my heart/soul, fourth prince." She begins to think everything was all her own fault at some point towards the end. The tragedies between the brothers fight, her own miscarriage, her best friend 13th's health, etc. All that sends her spiralling. She never doubts her love for 4rth, but at the end, she chose freedom. She still saw 14th as a friend till the very end. And as Qiaohui said, she was willing to be with 4rth. But yeah, honestly, she made some poor choices and suffered because of it. She would have been better off marrying one of the other princes. She's "indecisive" because she doesn't want people to die around her. But that's the beauty of it.

若曦到后期就是自我内耗把自己给耗死了；不过虽然很多人骂若曦作 但我反倒觉得她的作很符合这个人物的底层逻辑 若曦本就是一个重情义的人 这也是这个人物的魅力所在 任何事情都是一体两面 她的重情义让她成为“万人迷” 也正是因为她重情义 让她不可能放任曾经的好友不管 自己安心过快乐日子 相当于把自己的快乐建立在他人的痛苦之上 这若曦绝对做不到 所以她必然会“作”；她确实执拗 确实钻牛角尖 她大可以看开点 但她的性格就是不可能看开的；我反倒觉得这种有缺陷有flaw的人物塑造才是成功的 不是各方毫无缺点 完美无缺 若曦的重情义 也是她的倔强和作 反倒让这部戏有了点俄狄浦斯式悲剧的味道 而不是为虐而虐

2020年了这个剧我是看第二遍了，第一遍时，我的感悟还停留在表面的故事情节中。当我看第二遍时，领悟到了其中每个人的表情和感情都很到位。甚至都每个微表情变化。我的眼泪不知不觉往外流。也许这就是好电视剧的代表吧！

这么多人都不喜欢女主是有原因的，大家都知道她是善良想尽可能救所有的人，都知道她纠结是不愿意认命，可是由于编剧功力太差，或者本来就是偶像剧也没打算认真写，总之现在剧情展现出来的女主就是实在愚蠢又做作，而且摇摆不定。帮那些阿哥时的方式实在是成事不足败事有余，从头到尾没看见她做什么有脑子的事情。
感觉时代变了，观众价值观也变了。要知道步步惊心比甄嬛传要早，那个时候宫斗还没有成风。若曦这样想要保全所有人，结果竹篮打水一场空的剧情还是有群众基础的。10年后的现在，大家都无比清醒，对自己要什么，能得到什么，需要付出什么，都算计得清清楚楚。可以说整体这个世代更聪明，也更无情了。本来有情甚至滥情，可能就是愚蠢的代名词。现在大家开始讨厌若曦了😅

一点不同的观点，很多人眼里若曦的”作”恰恰是我觉得这个人物的个性所在。寻常人家的夫妻也会因为意见不合拌嘴吵架冷战，这是作为现代人的若曦眼里正常不过的事情。而古代男女极端不平等，若曦没有受到三从四德的荼毒，所以看到从前照拂自己和姐姐的八爷蒙难，向自己的爱人皇上求情，是这个人物有情有义的写照。给13爷求情，拒绝赐婚14爷，为帮8爷14爷而得罪敏敏，回看这部剧里女主”作”过的傻事还差这一件么？作为女性看宫廷剧经常有种压抑感，尽管剧情已经尽力美化，但女性不可逃避地作为男权统治下的附属品，生儿育女辅佐丈夫就是人生全部。这部剧的女主难能可贵地保持自我，勇敢地为自己的主张而活，有情有义，为亲人朋友不惜一次次忤逆权威，牵连自己。我理解大家为女主可惜，没有把握住人生的安乐幸福，但我也理解女主的选择。不论哪个时代，我想我都希望有一个像若曦这样的朋友。
我觉得女主有自己的坚持，但她的坚持在这里格格不入，没有人真的完完全全理解她的一切，所以她很迷茫和纠结，以至于抑郁。。。

很少留言讲难听话的，还是忍不住吐槽一下若曦的作和婊。很喜欢这个剧，看了很多遍，喜欢这里的人物形象和演员的倾情演绎，服道化皆在水准之上，本来欢喜搞笑的穿越和大气磅礴的九龙夺嫡堪称绝配，可偏偏剧中若曦后期作得不要不要，明明知道八爷的结局还去撩闲和老八谈场虐心恋爱，跟了老四，也成就了皇位，不安安心心过日子，又去纠结在皇权内斗中不肯罢休，谁给她这么大的自信心😂 还是雍正太宠她了吧！背叛雍正，最后生生把自己作死了！剧中可能除了被圈禁宗人府的大阿哥，毒蛇老九，恐怕没有人不拜倒在若曦的石榴裙下了吧！人气小说加经典剧集，不影响喜爱和观看，但不得不说感觉小说作者创作这个角色有点自恋啊！hahaha

I think it’s because the 4th prince was not raised by her but the 14th prince was. So she love and care more about the younger son.
