    i'm a ex EOD engineer and that first thing you found looks like a rocket. the second looks like air dropped ammunition and the solid thing looked like a tank projectile. at one point they would have all been dark blue or light blue. one colour is training and one colour is practice but i cant remember which one is which and which one has or doesnt have explosive in them. that other thing was definitely a wale

      They are all practice mortar rounds except the large shell which is artillery, not a tank round. If the uncovering of live ordnance was as regular as this, the beach would be cordoned off permanently. The reason it isn't is the big clue. That area was obviously a practice range at some point. You don't talk like ex EOD. You'd know all of this as standard.

    • @Lenny101
      @Lenny101 Před 11 měsíci +2

      @@tinderboxcreations I didn't see any spigot holes so didn't think it was morter rounds. I was civilian trained and not from the forces. I only done the job for months and all I looked for was left over ww2 ordnance. I'm by no means an expert and I have forgotten most of my training. I also though it was obvious this was a practice range so didn't mention it.

    The munitions you found by the cliff face were BDU 33's. The colour designation, blue, donates practice / inert. These are dropped by various aircraft doing training runs on ground targets.
    I am an avid collector, of many years, from small munitions up to items of over 1 ton (ALL FFE and inert). My strong advice is to steer well away from anything you find that looks like a "bomb" or "grenade" , they can be highly unstable and likely to detonate at any time if touched. Get Bomb Disposal specialists out - dial 999 and report location.

    • @snorb1tz

      Thankfully there’s contact numbers on the Mod information board as you go down the slope onto the beach and as you reach the beach being videoed at Mappleton. If I remember correctly? A couple years ago a couple from Sheffield found some practice rounds and took them home. I’m pretty certain that Hull daily mail and bbc look north covered the story, as someone reported them to the police when they were showing them? My father was a former Bomb disposal sergeant for the RAF who served his last two years at the Cowden range before retiring in 1997. Even I know when to steer clear from these when I take my dogs on to that beach

      I know exactly where you mean. As a Leicestershire child of the 80/90s we went on holiday to Ingoldmells every year, we used to see and hear the planes flying to the bombing range, most memorable were the A10s BRRRRT of the 90s Gulf War era. We used to go to Gibraltar Point, there was a wardens hut down near the sea that had a huge set of binoculars on a tripod, apparently from a submarine? We were told never to look at the targets (through the binoculars) when the range was active, as they used laser guidance, and it could burn your eye out!

    The bombs that are coloured light blue are practice rounds and are inert. The light blue colour is used by the military to denote that a round or shell is inert.

    Stunning beach. Lots of history attached to it. When we were kids we used to go to a beach on holidays in Galway. Once there was a whale lying dead on the beach. We jumped up and down on it it made sounds like it was darting 😂😂😂😂. Hi from the West of Ireland 😁
