Stunning you are right, but to compare it to European is an insult. US manufactures trying to copy euro cars are the reason we don’t have all the cars that this channel brings. Apples and oranges. I spent all my 56 years back and forth between the US and Germany and these cars are as unique and beautiful as the euro cars. Separate but equal…lol

I worked in the industry back in the day. This was a car that most Caddy dealers of any size kept one of on the lot. There was a lot of people, especially elderly back in that period that were afraid of the options being something to give trouble. They wanted the Caddy but not all the extras so they would not have something to go wrong, LOL! Also no V.top as that was something to peal and go bad! So many dealerships in that day kept one of this kind of car to meet that market of buyer. I owned some of them as they usually were traded in or more often sold after the owners death and had few miles on them, etc. They were great cars to buy and drive. I loved them then and now! If I were there this one would have a new owner, me!

Per dealer manual DeVille you could have the 'delete' option for Landau Top, but for 2dr Fleetwood was a condition along with opera light. Those pillar Landau tops rarely caused issue, in fact became selling point as GM forced owners if they wanted Landau top with opera light was to buy Cadillac but would have to put up with the HT4100 or Diesel nonsense. Following 1983 Delta 98s and Buick Park Av/Lesabre/Elektra no longer had opera light, and Chev Impalas discontinued Landau tops altogether.

The only (other) times I'd seen a DeVille without a vinyl top was in our local 🎳 Bowling Alley, back in 1969-70. The Leagues were raffling them off brand new. The '69 was a similar color blue with dark blue cloth interior. I was just 9-10 during that era, but was impressed! I believe the '70 was silver over black, no vinyl top. They were Calais models or "stripped" DeVilles, still very nice cars!

Thank you for consistently giving us entertaining honest and positive reviews on the cars we grew up with and loved. We shouldn't be too worried about that caddy crazy engine, with just a little bit of effort say in about 20,000 miles you could put in a decent crate engine say maybe a 350 or maybe a 454. I think the vinyl top delete option was rarely rarely ordered. I've only seen less than 5 in my whole life. This color on the other hand was more common than you think. Lou Constable did a review of a 1985 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham 2 door with a vinyl top in this color. Not a huge fan of the standard hubcaps but they are fairly rare to see. All around just a great car.

@John Sluder I'm all in favor of better fuel economy so the size, 4.1, was fine with me. The problem with its durability was the fact that this engine was the first GM produced with aluminum blocks and an iron heads. The two dissimilar metals, which GM didn't account for in its testing, cause the two parts of the engine to expand and contract at different rates resulting in a high number of blown headgaskets.

My first car was exactly this car, except in a metallic tan exterior and brown velour interior. It was an excellent car except for the underpowered HT4100. The engine never gave me any problems, but it was not ever meant to pull these full-size cars. As far as the top, I wished mine had one as they are classy and look nice on this style and era of car. However, given that these cars are now reasonably rare and not having the top was rare to begin with, I can see how this appeals to those still looking for distinction without the overly formal styling.

You pulled out one from the past in excellent shape! I like how you find these cars and get them back into shape and drive them to and from places. No one will forget the great downsizing era at GM( 1985-1987) and the great upsizing 1988-1992. Thar car has some classic Cadillac styling cues. I am glad to hear you and your father are in business as a family. Sad about Oldsmobile. It should still be here. I remember the 4.1 liter V8. You were on the money about the engine being like Northstar. The 4.5 and 4.9 liter grew out of the 4.1 liter V8. It is interesting how the cluster was updated for Brougham in 1990. Thank you again for sharing. I am still tempted to write you and tell you what I am looking for when I am ready.

I had the new 84' total white Coupe Brougham. It even came with a CB as standard equip. The height of the 80's dance clubs was raging and so was I in that car. I use a pic of it and me as my Facebook homepage. The stories that car could tell.

I loved my 1977 Cadillac Seville as well as the 1979 Seville I had purchased. Then moved on to Mercedes-Benz and I've never been back since. But, ironically I would love to get my 1979 Seville back. With wire wheels, and the gold paint, and that fuzzy fur carpet that you'll never ever find again. In the Corinthian leather seats that you just don't ever see. Best car ever had in my life, 1979 Cadillac Seville.

A friend in San Francisco ordered a 1974 black Coupe DeVille with A/C delete(cadillac offered the a/c for free, but he didn't want it.) It came with factory added floor vents. Vinyl top delete and vinyl upholstery(no leather). He did have the am/fm stereo radio. It didn't have tilt wheel, either. It looked so different from any other 74 Cadillac. It had no cruise control or twilight sentinal

Beautiful car, and very nice without the vinyl top.
The V under the Cadillac emblem on the trunk is correct for a Coupe DeVille.
Only senior Cadillac models (Fleetwood, Eldorado, and Seville) should have the wreath.

It's a great looking Cadillac in good shape, but don't get too attached to it with the HT4100. (Do your research) Anthony, you have some of the finest Cadillac's listed here that I have ever seen, but what's up with the miss matched paint on the bumper fillers? They have paint chip technology where the computer matches it up perfectly.

Looking at the original brochure, they called it a "Cabriolet Vinyl Roof" and was available option on the Coupe Deville, standard for the Sedan Deville. It wasn't a "delete" option. The Coupe De Ville was essentially the bare bones basic Cadillac with the least amount of standard features.
