Thanks for the videos! My bike isn't shifting above 2nd gear so I took all that apart to make sure it wasn't the shift assembly outside of splitting the cases. The shift cam won't turn past 2nd gear either so I have to split the cases. Wish me luck!

Thanks Shane! Love your videos. Just to add to the conversation here as we are talking about Suzuki style shift cam. I just assembled my 2013 Suzuki RMZ 450. Started the bike, put it in 1st gear, took of and got about 10ft before the bike locked/stuck in 1st gear and stopped. The bike is locked in gear and gear shifter will not move. Here is the thing I had watched this video before putting it together however I must not have paid enough attention, or to the main point I did not check my work. I did not run through the gears to make sure it was working. Right now I am not 100% sure of the problem until I get back into it here. Stay tuned I will give you an update on what I find. If anyone has an any insight please share.
Update! So when i went back in there, I unstuck the transmission however I could not find anything noticeably wrong with my assembly. The gear locator was free and install correctly (this one has a washer on the end) I then proceeded to removed the gear linkage, gear shift cam driven plate, cam stopper plate and gear shift arm stopper or gear locator . Resembled making sure everything was installed correctly checking my work by finding 1st, neutral 2nd..... etc. What seemed like everything was functioning perfectly. I then started the bike put it in 1st gear and it jammed itself again. the bike would not even take off. It was jammed and cut itself out. So now I don't know what to do! Any help out there?
Thinking about it a little more, it is like two gears are engaging together. It is not noticeable when the bike is on its stand it go's from one gear to the next perfectly, however when you apply power through the transmission (i.e try to take off in 1st gear it jams itself) something must be moving more than it should causing two gears to engage. Maybe I have to spilt this complete engine transmission again and see what I can find. Oh man!

Hi Shane I am a subscriber. And yes I had looked through many videos, not them all. One was a transmission not function correctly and had been checked by many techs and then you checked it and found the issue with it. I think I might have to go back into the transmission and thoroughly go through each component to see if I can find the problem. As I mentioned the transmission works very smoothly when turning everything by hand. As soon as you start the engine put it in first gear the transmission just binds and will cut the engine if you try to release the clutch

Ty this helped me so much I was trying to find out why I only hade neutral and first win my bike is a 6 speed it is a Yamaha xt 350 1994 i was so confused it worked before I took it off the bike and I didn’t touch the transmission or anything I just installed a kickstart assembly did not think about side load

Hey there, I'm currently do a rebuild on a 2002 DRZ400S. After reinstalling this piece I can only move my shift drum through three different positions, prior to installing it I can rotate the drum and transmission through all five positions (or gears), any clue what may be occurring here?
I have a 05 cbr1000rr and my gear is stuck I have rock it back and forward to get it back in neutral and sometimes it want go back in neutral any answer
Mi bike shifts all gears right but second gear gets in in low rpms and high rpms makes cracking noises

Hey I’m doing a build on an 97 rm125 and I’m having a lot of trouble getting the bolt the goes to the center of the shift drum out so I can remove the whole shift drum, Is there an easy way to hold the drum in place or is that screw a left hand thread?
Got a 2017 Drz400sm with about 12,000 miles.
When down shifting 9/10 times going from 3rd to 2nd it’ll go into neutral.
Any guess what it could be?

my problem is the bike slips out of neutral into 1st ALL the time, even just pushing the bike without it on it will slip into neutral, i can barely get the bike to start without it slipping into 1st and then when it starts even while holding the clutch in the bike starts to go like im not holding the clutch in

What does the line on the cam represent? I am working on a 91 rm 125 and put the cam in the wrong position.

My bike won't go into neutral but will shift also it won't go into neutral when I squeeze the clutch, what's wrong?

I’m having problems with my gears, it’s very hard to get to second from first. I thought it might be something wrong with the piece at 1:04 but it looks fine. Anyone have any ideas ?

Shane your videos are great! I have a 1995 CR250. When the engine is cold the bike will not go past second gear. I think the lever stays in the up position when i try to shift. After the bike gets warm the lever falls and then it shifts fine. It does this again if i turn the bike off for more than 5 minutes. Do you have any idea what this might be? I think the shaft is straight. I just ordered a new spring for the shaft just in case. I also ordered new springs for the paws just in case. They are coming in today. @@How2Wrench I fixed my problem by installing a new spring on the shift lever. My second issue was that the inner clutch does not want to spin independently of the outer cluch basket. I found a solution you might find interesting. I think it will also fix bikes that do not want to start in gear. Here is my video: czcams.com/video/u8RmoskMoYw/video.html
