  • Princess Charlotte of Prussia was born into a world of grandeur and extravagance. As the granddaughter of Queen Victoria, she grew up surrounded by luxury and privilege, attending royal balls and receptions from a young age. However, despite her royal upbringing, she was known for her independent spirit and her interest in social justice issues. Yet she had a fractious childhood and a lethargic attitude in school. She had trouble getting along with her overbearing mother. And her natural tendency for spreading rumours and stirring up trouble only increased as she matured.
Throughout her life, Princess Charlotte faced many personal and political challenges. She lived through the tumultuous times of World War I and the fall of the German Empire, and her family suffered great losses as a result. Today, Princess Charlotte of Prussia is remembered as a true icon of strength and courage, a symbol of hope and inspiration to all who face adversity in their lives.

Charlotte might be considered a very independent woman. Her mental health, as well as her health, might have been reason for her stubbornness. She had so much and did so little.💗

Imagine having your personal diary spread onto every newspaper in the country... all your personal thoughts and feelings, dreams, complaints..everything..then being exiled because of it. How horrible!! That wasn't foe anyone else to read.

Have read a bit about her in biographies of her mother and father. IMHO, untreated mental health issues. Which, of course, were not really recognized or treated at the time. Thanks Jon.

Jon! This is an absolutely spectacular format history research that you’ve done. I love history, but I get tired of hearing the same figureheads being researched over and over again it seems that they’re just in a desperate attempt to find something new about these well documented individuals, you good sir, go into these non-so documented individuals and grab these spectacularly amazing stories of history that I’ve been hidden. Thank you so much.

It has been suggested that Charlotte of Prussia may have suffered from porphyria, which might explain some of her symptoms.

Most likely, yes. Or She was just Rambunctious and wanted to be more than a Princess or Queen. She wanted something meaningful, a true piece of the world or we consider normal now or 'part of growing up' If she wasn't a Programmed by her Mother Lady of Society, had to do Everything Perfect, if she even raised her voice in public at some point it was considered "Abnormal"I feel bad for her...

Very nicely done John! Congratulations! Unfortunately, nothing could be done for Charlotte and her daughter Fedora as both suffered from an incurable disease called porphyria; its most famous victim was George III of Great Britain. BTW, I would like to recommend the film "The Madness of King George" (1994) with a formidable cast lead by Helen Mirren and the great Nigel Hawthorne.

Queen Victoria was never ever a mere Queen of England. She was Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and also Empress of India. The last mere Queen of England was Queen Elizabeth I, who died in 1603.

Fedora's body was exhumed and the DNA evidence indicated that she might have had porphyria. Perhaps that was Charlotte's
problem too? The inattentiveness for book learning was also an issue with Bertie (Edward VII) and his son, Prince Eddy.
Queen Victoria gets the blame for a lot of the illness in European royal families; but I do not think that she was the only one; most
of the nobles in those German principalities were inbred. Of course, there isn't much information out there regarding the physical
or mental disabilities of those leaders' families of all of those long ago German principalities. We do know that some of the Bavarian
Wittenbach's were burdened with insanity; but how far back in the family line did that go?

I disagree with you that Vicky was an overbearing mother. I would say because of her outstanding erudition and forthright manner and taught by her outstanding intelligent and gifted father, Albert, the Prince Consort that Vicky had high standards concerning her children's education and morals. Unfortunately her elder children, Wilhelm and Heinrich and of course Charlotte clashed with Vicky as they got older. She was a dominant woman like her imperious mother, Queen Victoria.

The best time in Germany history .Germany defeated all neighbors ,First expansion to the east Poland gave Prussia over domination as the dominant German state ,after Austria,France .As a Pole I think that Germans were jealous of English achievement compare to their ability Germans could do more .Germans expansion was focus not on overseas colonies but East .Sometimes it is hard to believe that 60 km from imperial city Berlin Poles lived in train couch protesting against Germans. Germans who came from Schwaben were particular hatred by Poles. Nowadays there is insult world Szwab which means bad German .
