CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It is often used as a term for when a farm sells shares at the beginning of the season and then gives out boxes of produce each week to it's customers.
This couple has such a nice back and forth between them. They complement each other's speaking style and don't step on each other while speaking. A nice partnership in many ways.
If the farmers read ths comment.. for the sage... try pinneapple sage. It smells like pinneapple (really attractive) , super pest resistant, grows huge, huge yields.
I love this couple, I'll be starting my farming next month and I'm looking at getting married and getting my wife involved...seeing this beautiful couple is just encouraging to me🇿🇦❤️
You guys are awesome, I would say that you guys are the next generation of growers that will carry on the work and inspire many young and future farmers. So awesome continued success.
What a cute and interesting couple! Thank you , Padmé and Dr. Who, for letting us tour your farm! 🤣🤣🤣 I’m excited to see how well this model works going forward. It’s very similar to what I’m trying to set up for myself. Great video, Josh!
Lovely couple, very inspiring and you both are doing great job. We are also planning to move over there from San Francisco soon and will try to visit your farm.
@@janew5351 I'm struggling with price though. It's $27 a week for quite a small box of organic produce. I don't doubt their figures for getting a living wage as they have a very small holding and no economies of scale But it is $4 an item. I can buy organic vegetables in the UK for $12-15 a week for a similar amount. It looks good quality, but I would say it suits better off families with plenty of disposable income maybe with personal links with the farm. The people reading this must be quite well off, as nowhere is the price of $27 a week discussed or even mentioned!
They have brought their West Coast style, culture, and flair to the East Coast! And they had the benefit of living in NY! They are awesome and have and awesome farm! Oh! The beauty of their Elliot Coleman link! They have learned from THE BEST! They made a smart and awesome investment!
That is a nice set up. I was to be able to grow through winter too just for the family to start with. Then maybe get bigger when i find land here in floridia.
This is a fantastic video... I am an organic farmer myself. I produce my own fertilizer from my rabbits poop thru vermiculture and other concoctions using EM Technology. I operate at my backyard in an urban estate in Nairobi, Kenya. Such a small space but very productive and profitable. I believe that the solution to our food problem is the garbage problem. The more we recycle, the more we become sustainable. Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing! Cheers!
Josh, you should tell those two to have a youtube channel. I think lots of ppl would be interested in watching their journey and it can help supplement their income. Cheers!!!!
Absolutely awesome 👏. We just started growing produce 3 years ago. We’re below you in South Carolina. Things have went ok, but honestly this year was terrible w all the rain. We lost 90% of our tomatoes from torrential rains. We had 4 ac of tomatoes and was the best crop we’ve ever grown. We were ab a week away from picking canning and sandwich tomatoes and we got a 14” rain in 6 hours and it pretty much destroyed them all. They were tied up with the Fla weave system, but plants were so loaded that it just beat em to the ground and tore all the branches off. Saddest thing I’ve ever experience in my 30 year farming career. We also farm 800 of grain too, but seriously thinking ab moving away from that part of farming.
I understand when they talk about getting started alone. Especially if there is nothing there. I have 4 acres I farm pretty much on my own. I have help when the sweet corn is ready. Then I let people I trust to come in to harvest their own.
i think we are seeing a shift in how we can do business as small farmers...we don't have to just follow one model like curtis stone...but we can create a balance of creating overall value through the variety of produce but still utilize the fast growing crops to create that initial cash flow....people value in general what you can provide...but when you consider things like giving your CSA clients add ons like eggs and such we can create more impact.....i'm pumped for 2020 growing season...my first year doing a csa membership...we have to be creative....we have to rewire peoples thinking of their access to fresh food...
josh i am watching your video's since few months , great effort you are putting time. This couple are greatest to watch ever, what a synergy between them please convey my best wishes and best of luck to their future endeavors' am really jealous to have such great girlfriend and wife
Great video, thanks. I cant get over how pristine your brassicas look. I'm in the UK and getting leaves with so few holes and blemishes would be such an achievement. Any tips or do you just have way less pest pressure there?
Thank you for the kind words. I hope to do more of this work, but it takes time and money. I think it's important to share these farmers' stories and promote good farming practices.
Wow! That's a lot of work. The farm looks awesome! Congratulations to this wonderful couple and I wish you a bright future creating 'Food as Medicine' :-) .
Have you guys considered growing Tree Kale as a perenial green? They take about two years to amp up their production, but are heat and freeze tolerant, and turn out prolific edible greens year round.
Inspiring story, thanks for sharing Josh! We can relate to the challenges of finding farmable land. It's been a struggle for us to find a new home for our farm since we want to stay relatively close to our customer base in the Orlando, FL area which is growing rapidly with new subdivisions on what used to be the outskirts. But where there's a will there's a way! Lots to learn from folks like Gordon and Vera :-)
Oh you mentioned something about a deer fence. Could you elaborate more on that. We are having problems and very curious how others take care of it. Thanks nice looking farm you guys are doing fantastic.
They did install a deer fence around the property, but I don't have any details about it. Feel free to reach out them if you have any questions though. Instagram and website information are in the video description.

Absolutely gorgeous farm They have done a fantastic job. They are definitely good business people.
Could they expand the 6 rotation plan they use?

Great film - We see a lot of similarities as we're growing 50 shares off of a quarter of an acre, but in NE Scotland!
Great video! What a cute couple doing wonderful things for their community! Thanks for sharing!
I'm Indian I love your farmer culture, I fan of you
From what I can see they don't have a problem with Deer, Possums and other critters.
They are truly blessed.
Very Impressive. Well planed. Inspirational. Gordon you are a lucky man.
I understand when they talk about getting started alone. Especially if there is nothing there. I have 4 acres I farm pretty much on my own. I have help when the sweet corn is ready. Then I let people I trust to come in to harvest their own.
Excellent idea !
I always grow way too much corn to harvest myself.
