I don't want to take anything away from Benchmark, because they were brilliant. And we'll also put aside the novelty of it being four elders. But to say, "this is the best barbershop I've ever seen" is the same as saying "I haven't seen a lot of barbershop and I don't know what I'm talking about right now."
I love barbershop quartets! I'm sad that they are a dying breed. I got to listen to one once because they just stopped in at a place I worked once, old-fashioned like. No announcement. It was awesome!
Yep, I agree it’s a dying breed. So sad. I sing in a barbershop chorus and a quartet. It’s difficult to get new members and especially the “younger” generation to even listen to us much less appreciate the music.
At the end I just went "aww" because old people are honestly so wholesome. Them just enjoying themselves and making beautiful music along the way is the nicest thing Ive seen in a long time. BRAVO!!!
it brings to tears to my eyes the look on the audience's face says it all why don't we see more talent like this instead of boys that like sound girls and girls that screech. Harmony is the word people Beautiful
just sitting here listening to these gentlemen sing a little 4 part harmony takes me back to almost 22 years ago sitting in Michigan listening to my grandpa and my father singing barbershop and just wishing one day I could do that
I was a member of a barbershop quartet and I always said, "You could screw up the whole song, but if you nailed the tag and the last note, they'd go wild!!" They didn't screw it up and the crowd went wild(er)!!!!!
KaennC Well in all technicality yep. However this isn't the case is it? You have young men who have no where near the life experience as these men. Just saying.
***** Life experience is fine and all, but life experience just means that you've lived longer. There is the argument saying that they've been through more, but even then, things (and especially the entertainment sector,) change. I'd say that nowadays it's more about financial succes and reputational influence, growth and connections.
They said ooo and wow just because they were singing 4 part harmony. the judges didn't even know what to listen for lol. They didnt oo and ahh at overtones, just random points in the song. The judges are completely ignorant to barbershop, and you have to give them a little room for bad opinion.
I got here from Bioshock~ I was hoping that they were going to sing "God Only Know from Bioshock Infinite" but man THIS WAS THE FREAKEN BOMB LET BARBERSHOP QUARTET LIVE ON!!!
barbershop quartets is raw and not digitized, same as vinyl can't be beat by CD/mp3's, it'll never go away, it is music heard in its purest and simplest form.
The ignorance with these people just blew me away. It’s one thing if you know nothing about Barbershop, I can understand that not many people do it’s a rare taste, but for the love of god don’t act like you know all about it when obviously you know nothing about it. You could say “you know I’m not really a fan of barbershop music, but I really enjoyed/disliked (whatever your opinion may be) your singing...” this as a barbershopper frustrates the hell out of me, that said, these guys were good, not quite champ level, but definitely good. For those of you who liked this video and would like to see more barbershop, I recommend these guys: Bluegrass Student Union Vocal Spectrum Ringmasters Instant Classic Realtime Those are the highest level quartets in the world and you’ll find that if you enjoy this type of music, they will really thrill you.
I actually sang with the lead in a quartet at dreamworld on the Gold Coast Queensland I sang tenor he sang then baritone but even back then in the late 80s I thought he had a smooth Sound
guys guys guys, you know the micro is directed straight to the men group? so the sound of the clapping people first is going to the wall behind them and is being reflected and THEN reaches the microphon...thats the reason you hear them clapping "offbeat" thanks physics for the 343 m/s.
i've had this happen in a performance i was in -- it's because there's a delay in the sound system so the audience is hearing the performers slightly late
They are very, very good. For amateurs of things like this, listen to the King's Singers (very famous) and the Whisful Singing (absolutely not famous but probably one of the best vocal band in this genre, if not the very best). Enjoy !
"The best barbershop quartet I've ever seen..." ...maybe on this show These judges need to get out more. There's a whole community of us and, no offense, this is just a senior's quartet
"Ah, but we're a man-band."
Win.
In my opinion these guys deserved to win
Caleb Mayfield THEY DIDN'T WIN?! TF
No, jack won. Another Justin Bieber in my opinion
Aw I love barbershop. and I love seeing these guys having so much fun with it.
Great job guys. As a BHS member it's nice to see quartets representing the style well.
That cringey moment when the audience tries to clap to it and are extremely off rythme.
Beautiful harmony. Love it. On a side note: the redhead in the audience is bloody gorgeous.
i love how the side note took more time to read than the main note....
Chuck Carney Haha. Thanks... I guess. :)
TheHazeist what red head

Lmfao the crowd had to rhythm. Wtf is with the offbeat clapping.

That bass, what a rich and colorful tone
They're the best senior quartet I've heard, and have the always awesome Australian accents.
i love barbershop quartet music,it's always so filled with passion .
Wow! That was some high-level syncopation from the audience!
Little boys judging older men.. Goodness me. :/
at least they judged correctly :P
***** So, if the judges were 90+ year old men, it would've been better?
KaennC Well in all technicality yep. However this isn't the case is it? You have young men who have no where near the life experience as these men. Just saying.

Valid point but still.
My statement will always be.
That judge needs to listen to vocal spectrum. That's the best Barbershop quartet
Try Ringmasters

Try the original gas house gang
They ignored all of the 7ths, as did everyone else in the crowd because they don’t understand that part of singing. “The hallmark of our society”
Glad to see 'em representin' barbershop music in pop culture!
The Be-Sharps amazing

Really fucking off-putting when the audience decides to clap randomly and anywhere but in time!
Unfortunately it happens with any general public audience you as to clap in time xD
@king tubby well if only you could say that to my face. Just a question which country are you from
England. Why you want to know?
Hhahaha shut you convict
So you poms don't know how to write sentences correctly either.
at the first two seconds i was like: WTF?!?! Ron Paul in a Barbershop Quartet ?!?!? XD
The ignorance with these people just blew me away. If you enjoyed this, though, look up Storm Front, Vocal Spectrum, and Gas House Gang.
Por essa, os jurados não esperavam!
Wow.
"The best barbershop quartet I've ever seen..."
...maybe on this show
These judges need to get out more. There's a whole community of us and, no offense, this is just a senior's quartet
Barbershop is like classical musical: you CAN'T clap your hands along with them...
