That paddlewheel was awesome. I feel like you could hit a sand bar and it would just walk you across. Also, all those steamboats and no steampunks? Bronze goggles should be mandatory for any steam vessel captain. Love seeing all the moving parts.
Paddlewheel boats worked up into the '80's for that reason and many more.

This is quite literally my dream in reality, except for the whole mountainside lake part. I’m all seaside nautically.
It can be done. Plenty of used steamboats for sale, both advertised and word of mouth.
I didnt know California had steam boats, let alone in Clear Lake, I always pass through there whenever im heading to Eureka
There's a number of us that attend a steamboat meet in the Delta that has been going since 1974
@WesleyHarcourtSTEAMandMORE that's really cool, I remember reading somewhere about a steamship that used to work the Sacramento River named the Chrysalis (spelling?) That was built in the 1860s that survived all the way till the 40s in San Fran when it caught fire, I really wish it had survived, it'd be so cool if it had an annual event going up and down the river yet again

Thank you! Yes, she's a one-off indeed.
"UNO" was built on Lopez Island, Washington, in 1894. The engine is a Stewart Turner 6A compound and the boiler is an Ofeldt style watertube. Fuel is wood or diesel.
I thought as much, 6A is a damn good little engine too.

Wesley Harcourt. So its a Carvel Hull. Is it sheathed in dynel/glass or is it unmolested ? I hope not. Seen a few wood boats killed by sheathing.
@@brianminghella3312 yes her hull is Carvel planked and unmolested. Her owner, Stephanie Hylton, has taken great care of her.

There are a few sources depending on your location. My first suggestion is contacting your local/national steamboating group or their website and check out their classified ads. Many boats go for a fraction of what they cost to make yourself, and they're a good platform to learn on before building your own...

These were all built by lower middle class people in their garages over 20+ years. Scrimping and saving, reading and learning new skills, patience, and attention to detail. The information and materials to build these were much harder to find when these were all built. They didn't give up on their dreams and didn't let their low incomes discourage them.
