They’re going to need to change their rules after this. Bellarmine started the conversation, but Merrimack may be the ones who actually get the NCAA to change this rule.
@@lakerskid2013 It was a combination of the successful two programs which brought this conversation into the light. Bellarmine was the first successful transitioning program. Merrimack was the second, but they both played EQUAL part in bringing light to the conversation.
@@nahlejdrappah6231 Yeah but you know usually something doesn’t get done until a second team or person does something, then that’s when a rule gets changed.
This rule is stupid a 1 year transition period is fine but 4 is too much isn’t the purpose of the playoffs to find the best team in the country so it should not matter if a team just moved to D1
On top of that, Purdue won their conference tournament. FDU lost theirs, yet FDU beat Purdue. Confirms conference losers are better than conference winners.
Well FDU was the team that made history. Your comment answered my question as to why FDU was in over Merrimack. This whole eligibility stuff is BS. Merrimack should have been in instead of FDU
@@jameschang2873 Because Merrimack was ineligible for March Madness due to their D1 transition period. So instead the runner-up receives the March Madness bid. FDU already knew they got their bid before this game started. They stormed the court in their semifinal victory
Almost happened to my school a few years ago- North Alabama. They lost in the championship game by a couple of points and would’ve been ineligible had they won. Felt so awful to watch that game. Well done, Merrimack!
I'm bummed for the Merrimack players and fans that the dumb transition rule exists, but I'm also happy for them that they won. I'm sure their coach told them that even though they're bummed about the Dance, they're going to want to look back in 30 years as the outright conf champs, and now they can say that. Congrats, you guys earned it. And the season didn't start out looking great either.
I wonder what their coach told them after FDU pulled off a massive upset over Purdue, the second time in NCAA Tournament history that a #16 seed beat a #1 seed.
And that wasn't even the worst foul call. The one down low to give the Merrimack player a 3-point play was also a ghost call. If these refs worked the B1G, it would be a free throw shooting contest every single game.
Lmao I know. They showed the replay and even the announcers we like "uh I didn't see anything there" Just a horrific way to end a championship game. Like calling holding to win the Superbowl
@@kennetzel6101how would that be disgraceful lmao? Two years in a row a team won there tourney but some outdated rule they can’t even participate in the best tourney. Make it three years in a row if we count women college bball.
That's sad that they can make the NCAA tournament because I'm not in full NCAA division 1 I just take at least three years in my opinion but great video
So you can take 3 steps in highschool college and NBA I should have kept playing that than baseball even though they just changed rules aswell for the better.
Joining the big dance is the Warriors of Merrimack College - The Northeast Conference Champions with a wild 67-66 win against the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights.
Lmao tell me you know nothing about college basketball, without telling me. They didnt join any big dance. They are ineligible. FDU gets the bid. Everybody and their mother knew this before the game started
Another year, another team proving that it doesn’t take 4 years to transition to be competitive in D1 basketball

two years in a row that proves how dumb the NCAA transition years rule is smh
Yea that bull CRAP!

I can’t remember a worse ending in a championship game. Over the back foul call to end it?? Corny
FDU choked, but those last two foul calls that went in Merrimack's favor were highly questionable.

Merrimack Warriors Champion!!! 🏆💙💛🏀🏀 Congratulations! 🙌🎊🎉
With the portal existing, the 4 year sentence needs to go!!!
Well FDU went on and did well but I feel bad for Merrimack
So many great endings this season
It doesn't make any sense to punish a team for moving up divisions.
Wait, so Merrimack won the conference but they don’t get to play in the big dance?
You got it.
My math tells me that Merrimack was 5-12 in non-conference play.
You would be correct
To bad these teams have to face the best out there but at the same time being there is rewarding!
Merrimack started the year 2-13!!
Merrimack should be in the tournament, the transition period is so stupid 4 years is way too long
Exactly in football they do 1 year
Perhaps the rule is stupid but it is the rule and everyone knew the rule before the season was played. Changing the rules now would be disgraceful.
