    Cut a odb port off a scrapper and place where original should be .wire up a capacitor to it with a simple circuit to the car to keep the cap charged - it’ll wreck there kit if they try and plug in

    Sorry to hear it mate, glad you moved the OBD as it's incredibly easy to steal the STs via OBD (mine was done just like they tried to do yours). All because the body control module is live all the time, so they can plug in pre-coded box to disarm the immobiliser, code a new key and drive off. You may want to consider a Cobra or Viper alarm, Disklok for visual deterrent and a Ghost if you're extra-paranoid.

  • @frankiejames1120
    @frankiejames1120 Před 4 lety +15

    Its a known issue with fords that the obd is easily accessible, only takes 5-10 mins to code a new key and they're off.

      @@frankiejames1120 Seems to be the same with the mark 7 Golf Rs as well, hampshirephoto brought this up in an old video of his from when he had his 7.5 Golf R. Car companies should really figure out a more definitive solution to stop thieves from producing counterfeit keys so they can make off with the cars honestly. Problem is that it's quite hard and new problems will likely surface most likely which is a real shame.
      It's literally like attempting to hijack someone else's personal accounts online by bypassing phone authentication from simply claiming you're that person and you need a new SIM because something's wrong with the one you have. Believe it or not, people have gotten away with it before and it's almost completely fucked over whoever owned the accounts in the first place. If you're wondering, this has happened to a few prolific personalities on here before. You're probably unfamiliar with tech channels but the person who owns the biggest tech channel on CZcams, Linus Sebastian of Linus Tech Tips, he was affected by it back in like 2017 I think. Luckily all of his accounts got locked down and he regained access to everything within hours.
      Imagine though if that happened to someone without a big following and they weren't able to retrieve their accounts, that would be devastating - just like it would be to have your Golf GTI, Golf R or Fiesta ST, your pride and joy get hijacked because of its keyless push-button ignition system which can be bypassed way easier than it is to get new car keys cut for an ignition barrel.
      To be honest if I were to get a Golf GTI, Golf R/32 or a Fiesta ST, I would at least have a second layer of security in case something like this were to happen to me. I will probably get as much as I can get, some people can even have the decency to group up and even jump or knock you out clean just to steal your car in the worst of scenarios. I saw a video on here last night as part of a compilation where a woman drove back home in her BMW X5, looked all fine but then a gang came out of nowhere and took her down clean just to rob her for the X5. Literally like what the fuck...

    My st was stolen a few weeks ago using this method. On CCTV they smash the window with a police type baton, put something in the car then they are fiddling with something huddled against the wing mirror. Then magically all the lights come on. They open the door get in and drive off. 4 minutes from arrival to theft. Also they were very careful not to hit the walls and garages in the lane. I don't know if this was to avoid airbags going off or it was stolen to order. I live in Caerphilly. Thanks for this video it helps me understand what happened to my pride and joy.

    It's disheartening when something like this happens, as all you've done is work hard to have the things you enjoy in life. Then there's the things people don't see, i.e. cleaning up the glass is a right pain in the arse (literally), as your forever finding it in places where it shouldn't be. Also there's the hassle of sorting a replacement window (if you choose to do it yourself), and ultimately even though it's no fault on your part, somehow insurance company's will end up charging you more in the long run, it's just endless.
    One thing you could consider, is to take the glass out of your track car Fiesta as a replacement, and then upgrade the track car to polycarbonate windows lol, still bloody annoying though.

    Can't believe how many comments I see on CZcams and forums complaining about keyless entry being a security risk - do you all not know you can disable that feature and just use the buttons on the keyfob instead? Literally the first thing I did when I got mine. Yeah, thieves could still smash the window and plug into the OBD port but at least it's slightly more effort and noisier (potentially drawing attention to what they're doing) than relay theft.

      @@Soarific not if the mods aren't declared. and even then you have to check your policy as they may still only pay out to the book price. Undeclared mods can completely invalidate an insurance policy even if they weren't the reason the car was stolen.
      Best thing to do is get GAP insurance, ideally Vehicle Replacement GAP (or the slightly cheaper Return To Invoice GAP if you're not intending on modding). GAP saved me when my first ST was stolen, as it was ex-demo it was about two and a half years old when stolen so I wouldn't have got a new replacement ST without the GAP insurance covering the difference between book price and retail price.
      My car's initial GAP policy has expired so I could get Vehicle Replacement GAP from the same provider, but they disregard any mods so it would only be to OEM standard. And you can't get the Mk. 7 ST now anyway.

      They have a electronic device they plug in and it allows them to have full control of the car. So they can turn alarm off, unlock the car and then start and drive off in it.

      Often the alarm doesn't go off as there's a blind spot with the OEM cabin sensor right where they punch through the window. If they do a neat job, it just leaves a hole big enough for their arm to reach in.

    If I had a high risk car(let alone 2) I'd have cameras especially with it so close to the house it's easier to get good detail. I've got the high risk transit instead, the amount of attempts to get in by trying the handles I've lost count of but I get motion notifications and just know looking at the screenshot without needing to look at the video, had it broken into 5 times in the past 4 month, last time with the £20 decoder key and every time they've left the satnav (came with it so I'm not arsed) and took aftershave, unplugged chargers from the charger and left the charger plugged in, a pair of magic gloves?? And a makita battery and charger. Deffo suggest 1 at the front and one at the back watching each 'cause you'd be surprised how much happens and how often stuff happens

The ST's/RS's take 20 seconds to steal and it costs the insurance company hundreds of thousands in claims. That's why my insurance states I have to have my disklok fitted where ever it is parked (I even put it on at Ford Fair). If I don't fit the disklok and my car gets stolen etc, and I have to claim. I have to pay 3 grand excess. Insurance Ppl trying to save money :)
