To one of the greatest pilots in history who was also a great sportsman in his quest to fight honourably in a time in which doing so could easily get you killed. As a German I'm proud that such a man once defended my country.
CidVeldoril well he did lose some honor in his tactics late in the war. Maybe because of his head injury maybe because he lost nearly all his closest friends. He began aiming for pilots not the machine. He was still a great man nevertheless and you should be proud to have such a figure in your countries history.
I don't want them to be surprised.. I wan't them to be scared.. Our task is to bring down aeroplanes not men.. We are sportsmen not butchers.. A real soldier who serves his meritorious conducts.. R.I.P Baron Manfred von Richthoffen..
The Red Baron..... A professional soldier who brought great honor to Germany..... Loved and Respected by friends and enemies. A true Fighter Ace in all aspects......... A True Legend in my Opinion.
I beg to differ. Although he was an amazing pilot, it is said that he scored most of his kills with his marksmanship. they even mention this in the movie when he talks about his childhood nickname "Eagle Eyes"
They knew what they were getting into, and they accepted it with honor and dignity. There is no war without death and there is no war without the slightest touch of decency in man, even when he is about to kill another. The only soldier that does not have honor, is the one that does not respect the soldier he kills.
Yes! :( but they died doing what they loved, not fighting and killing, but flying for their fellow countrymen and women, cheating death almost every instant in the air and living with COURAGE. R.I.P to all flying Aces!
What a beautiful song and a great movie, Ask someone of my generation if they remember anyone's name from WW1 and they will say The Red Baron. Amazing that he is still famous after 100 years while the politicians and war profiteers who started the war are long forgotten.
Not really. Vilem II. German tsar, Nicolaus II Russian tsar, Franz Josef and Karel II. Österreich-Hungarian tsars, Henry V., American president Villson, French general Ferdinand Foch, German generals Moltke, Hindenburg, Schlieffen, Russian generals Brusilov, Samsonov and Renenkampf, Serbian nationalist Gavrilo Princip, Ferdinand d'Este, Talat Pasha are well known. All these are in my memory. Do you know them? :-)
The military funeral of Richthofen is held by Australian troops in France. In 1925, his remain was moved and buried at Invaliden-friedhof cemetery, Berlin. Since the cemetery was on the East Berlin side just near the wall, many barracks and watch towers were built at the cemetery site, so in 1975 his grave was moved again and re-buried in Wiesbaden.
They were the last vestiges of honor in a war of unspeakable horror, knights who dueled high above the ruin and death and misery of the trenches. I can only imagine the sights those men must have seen from their aircraft high in the skies of Europe one hundred years ago, high above the killing fields...
The music is fantastic. I visited Richtofens grave in Wiesbaden. The music fits my feelings perfectly. There is a somber sadness that belays joy at the same time. In his book, he says that the reason he flew like he did, was for the men on the ground.
Manfred von Richthofen is described as one of the last noble knights. O' a knight he truly was. Elegant and brave. There may never be a man such as him.
For me one of best soundtrack song ever. Thank You! When i hear this song, i wanna be in the war, i wanna fight for my Nation. Such a beautiful melody.
the red baron ... respected has a deep hard... ...fight for his nation at will... thank you red baron for my country saved at moment thank you Manfred von Richthofen
I read a book a while back where they actually investigated it using modern methods and the conclusion that he was killed by gunfire from Australian soldiers from the ground. They credited it to Cedric Popkin and another gunner.
My grandad was in Jasta 13 in ww1 and knew manfred and my grandpa was part of the Sturmbock squadrons in ww2. On my moms side her relatives were american/irish and were infantry. My grandad was killed 1 week before manfred past away. His plane was shot up from rudder to fuselage and was heading into enemy lines when he crashed and was killed by Roy Brown. My grandpa Rudulf Watson was killed over Britain when he was a gunner for a HE-111, a spitfire set engine two a blaze and later the plane broke up with everyone inside.
If only people lived like they did back then, not without technology but with the same decency and morale being and charisma. They don't make movies like this anymore. They...just don't.
The case of who shot down the Red Baron goes on. The current theory is that is was an Australian anti-aircraft unit that hit the pilot and as such he crashed. Capt. Roy Brown RCAF was behind him at the time and firing away, hence he was orignally credited with the "kill". So, either Canadians or Australians get the credit.
a very good movie indeed, Enjoyed this. i expected some macho german pilot. infact i was wrong.. beautifuly done. Showed complete emotions in everything he did and the respect between themselves and the british pilots, if thats how it really was back in ww1? then thats real admiration. but again a most excelent movie. do watch and enjoy.
* Brofist * for some cool bros who know this epic WW1 movie that inspired me alot more then games and pewdiepie Epicness is the greatest part of somebody movie or soundtrack ands epic is pure awesomeness Its rare to find Epic video like this , i love it
@ariano69 Actually, it is a mystery, it is said that Roy Brown (The pilot in the movie) actually did shoot him down, and it is also said that an Australian Anti-Aircraft gunner shot him down.
I couldn't remember, but I thought he liked both the Dr.I and DVII but never flew the DVII. I read he was not that skilled in flying, but was good in tactics and an excellent shot and relied on his wingmen for cover
@jopaod yes that is the most beautiful part of the soundtrack, I totally agree and ever since seeing the movie yesterday it won't go out of my head... the track that is ;-)
Wop May actually spun out and was retreating at a very LOW alt, and Manfred gave chase, Roy followed, and the chaos that ensued would result in the death of Manfred von Richtoffen
For the past twenty or thirty years at least the verdict of most historians who study this event is that Roy Brown probably didn't do it although he was part of the circumstances that made it possible for the Aussies on the ground to get him. My beef is why didn't this movie get it right? If it was made in the 1950s or 1960s would be one thing, when not as much was known, but there's NO EXCUSE for such a mistake to be put into a 2008 movie about Richthofen.
Actually, you're only half right, his aircraft was damaged by a canadian pilot but yes, Australian AA gunners were the ones who delivered the final blow.
como es posible que esta película no este nominada a ningún premio por la música (How is posible that this movie it is not nominated for any music prime
"same decency and morale being ("as the Red Baron" is implied here)" So I ask you, when a man pulls the trigger on his gun, knowing that the consequence of his action may be another man's death, how can this man claim honor for himself? It doesn't matter how he perceives his "calling"/trade, or in what humane way he performs it. When he touches the trigger - the ideas are still there - when he fires a shot - the ideas are still there - but when the bullet hits another man - that is reality.
When you show your fallen adversaries respect and see them as men fighting to protect their home and not just drones, that's where your moral decency is. When you put a bullet in a suffering and slowly dying man's head, there's your mercy. When you salute and disengage a disabled or unarmed plane, there's your chivalry. And when you take your victory in grace instead of gloating about it, there's your honour.
I agree but what made him great isnt that but the way in which he fought. the red baron let his enemies live if it was possible. many times he let them land and then blew up their planes. imagine the fighting superiority he needed for that. the day he died he fought very compassionately and that got him killed. To me that was a honourable death. he would rather keep his honour than his life. thats the ideal personality. I admire him for that, he was a soldier with a heart
@veszpremkcfan I'm going to agree with both of you to an extent here. Ariano in the sense that you shouldn't DARE wish you were in a war, of any kind. War is disgusting and brutal and horrible and it's impossible to properly measure the impact of the death of even a single human being, on the other hand the soliders in the World Wars were fighting for the survival of many more people than just themselves. They did the right thing by fighting, but it doesn't make war something you should want.
no one is completly certain who shot down the red baron but we are now certain the one officially credited could not have killed him from the angle of the bullet shot. it was belived someone on the ground killed him. if you look on wikipedia it says who it was.
@AceCmbatguy26 No one knows who did, people like to think the Aussies did it, and so would I, but barons actions after he was shot shows that he was shot in the chest, he still had control of the rudder, because he landed the aircraft before death, which means he could not have been shot from below Or the side in the leg which is the only place ground gunners really could hit at most angles
@zoidberg96913 mm wikipedia is edited by all but we were told about it history class last year. in truth I don't know but the story itself is quite interesting.
The movie has many inaccuracies, especially the parts involving Roy Brown . Richthofen was such an amazing person that this movie does not do him justice. Check out my Red Baron song on the "BicyclingGuitarist" channel here on CZcams. The lyrics accurately describe von Richthofen's career and the images to the video were carefully chosen for historical accuracy. Peace
WWI saw the end of most of the nobility and chivalry in war. Most of the officers were of aristocratic blood and were cultured and educated. Even today officers of all nations' armed forces are brothers, as the enemy the minute they surrender they are to treated as brothers. You can read the biographies of many British pilots who were shot down and captured during the Falklands War on how well they were treated by their fellow Argentinian pilots !
I heard theres a website to convert videos to mp3. its worth googleing something like video to mp3 converter. a friend of mine gets all his youtube videos made into mp3
Manfred was the best marksman. Voss was the best pilot. No match with WWII aces. WWI was the beginning of a era and they were nothing but heroes, whatever country they fought for
As much as I like this movie, I wouldn't say they were THAT much more morale than the people today. if you look there was still some pretty terrible corruption.
@TheM1a2d3d4y5 Well I don't know. I learnt this in school and the teacher did say no-one was entirely sure. but really who kiled him doesn't matter right now. listen to the music.
I believe a lot of people that rate on IMDB have bad taste. I myself as an American prefer to see foreign war films because they know how to make war flicks.
@ariano69 my only question is: what would you do when you are in the same position as Herr Manfred von Richthofen, as the others? Would you fight for your country, and for your country's peace? or are you just sitting at your home? I accentuate war is not the disentanglement, but what if we haven't got choise?
To one of the greatest pilots in history who was also a great sportsman in his quest to fight honourably in a time in which doing so could easily get you killed. As a German I'm proud that such a man once defended my country.

This is one of my favourite film themes. It just fits so well with the setting and the feeling your flying.
Perfect.
1:30 to 2:20 that part just gets me everytime
"If he was still flying with us today he would be one of the best."
Connor Robel The best*
I beg to differ. Although he was an amazing pilot, it is said that he scored most of his kills with his marksmanship. they even mention this in the movie when he talks about his childhood nickname "Eagle Eyes"
Mannfred von Richthoven is one of my best war-idols.
R.I.P Baron
He gave his life for the Fatherland.
They knew what they were getting into, and they accepted it with honor and dignity. There is no war without death and there is no war without the slightest touch of decency in man, even when he is about to kill another. The only soldier that does not have honor, is the one that does not respect the soldier he kills.
I can listen to this song over and over.
Yes! :( but they died doing what they loved, not fighting and killing, but flying for their fellow countrymen and women, cheating death almost every instant in the air and living with COURAGE. R.I.P to all flying Aces!

+Alicia Andrews Very true. A true legend.
Alicia Andrews Well then they still don't know anyone's name from WWI. Red Baron was his nick name, and he had many.
thats true Alicia...m a combat pilot too n red baron is like an idol :)

I love this movie and the soundtrack. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
2019/11/18, still one of my favorite movies
This movie was sooo good!! One of the best world war movie I have seen!
Manfred von Richthofen is described as one of the last noble knights. O' a knight he truly was. Elegant and brave. There may never be a man such as him.
GOD BLESS YOU MISTER VON RICHTHOFEN , YOU ARE THE BEST FOR EVER , I RESPECT YOU
A.W.Ï.A SHEM AMEHS He would have appreciated something more simple
Sad that almost all of the best aces on both sides died near the end of the war.
For me one of best soundtrack song ever. Thank You!
When i hear this song, i wanna be in the war, i wanna fight for my Nation. Such a beautiful melody.
Simply beautiful music.

got some freaking goose bumps now hehe
This movie was depressing, they set him up as such a great person, but, knowing history, we know they have to kill him off. Its so sad.
emotionnal...
red baron and francesco baracca, same courage and same end.
1.38-2.20 so beautiful :)

He tested the Dv.II once, per request of Anthony Fokker, and it was okay. He was killed before they were issued to his squadron.
Manfred Von Richtofen was indeed a real life Rainbow Dash
Manfred von richtovon was truly a German ace
@jopaod yes that is the most beautiful part of the soundtrack, I totally agree and ever since seeing the movie yesterday it won't go out of my head... the track that is ;-)
Cant stop my TEARS after 1:35 .... old memories/friends/events/wins/losses ... :'|
The Blue Max is the soundtrack for FWW air battles.
Wop May actually spun out and was retreating at a very LOW alt, and Manfred gave chase, Roy followed, and the chaos that ensued would result in the death of Manfred von Richtoffen

Humanity was at it's best, now it's going down straight to the end
Humanity at its best during one of the bloodiest wars in history? Not saying that much about the species.

1:35 best part
Kurt Knispel could be right next to him brother, Another inspiration of Legend and Honor in a time of war, destruction, pain and death
Love the music. Too bad can't get it anywhere. But what's with Hawker flying a SE5 and screaming like a madmen?
Any one who flew a bloody plane in 1914-45 ( I say WW2 because thats about when you didnt need to be right behind the enemy to get the kill)
After 1:31 it is just amazing.
@AkBd04 that shot supposedly came from an australian rifle. ^^ maybe we did actually do something in the war :)
Sergeant Cedric Popkin.

Since nobody else is doing this comment, i shall...

@badco07 Why? Technically even if it was the ground gunner that got "kill" it would still count as Roy's aerial victory
@GermanWarRemembrance or died in mid air because of his partly healed headwound..
