Watch the BBC first on iPlayer 👉 bbc.in/iPlayer-Home Keeley Donovan heads 75 miles off the Yorkshire coast to see the building of the world’s biggest offshore windfarm. Hornsea One has broken every record for its size and scale, with 10,000 people involved in its construction in the North Sea. Keeley meets the staff who have made it happen - but can she get to the top of one of the 174 turbines in the field?

The UK is currently the No.1 country in offshore wind power, both in practical efficiency and in theoretical research.
Is all that stuff inside EVERY one of those turbines? Lifts and all? Extraordinary.
Yeah
No, the ones on land generally don’t have elevators
@@mileslane9485 yeah these offshore ones are absolutely massive, much much bigger than the ones on land
Land also have lifts. Of course I'm speaking about big ones manufactured by Vestas, Nordex, Siemens etc.
I've done that. It was exhausting, but the view from the top was spectacular. We couldn't use the lift, as it was only used to transport tools etc up, for the maintenance workers.
I can really recommend doing this to anyone who gets the chance.
Imagine living in one of those things in that top compartment. That would be insane. Especially to be inside one during some crazy storm.
I work on those exact Avanti lifts as in this video. That elevator needs to be looked at. They are not that loud lol.
0:40 I climbed 623 feet...
i climed i climbed 295 feet and took a lift that goes up the remaining 328 feet
Reminds me of those two engineers who died on top of a burning wind turbine. RIP.
ya . can u share more. i hv seen turbine burning.
Since that horrific accident, every time I see a wind turbine I think of them
Excellent 👌👌
Obrigado pelo vídeo maravilhoso.
Have climbed a few onshore turbines with and without lifts. None this high though. Do get a good view once at the top.
Wind electricity = evil theft from birds. STOP THIS THEFT TODAY. Say no to wind generated electricity.
Stop supporting electricity generation by evil evil wind energy theft. Signed: The Birds.
@@guff9567 more birds are killed by domestic cats than wind turbines
I'm so glad countries, mostly in Europe, are widely using alternative energy sources and that helps promote more efficient products, which brings down the cost and hopefully will make fossil fuels much less necessary.
very good
The off shore wind turbine which China are in progress of building is the largest ever building in the world. Be aware that this could be “ the eye of Modor “ not only watching, tracking all the activities from the South East to Japan sea. I guess it could be also GPS support for strategic targets on the sea around the region
Good
She didn't tie off when she unhooked from the ladder...
i was a tenent there once upon a time.
Wowww
Climbed?
Incredible! Hopefully, coming to USA, soon. We need green!
All birds say NO to evil theft wind generated electricity.
Go green. Coal is dead, people.
@@doxielain2231 its not actually green though.
@@Mistysfedora wind is pretty much the greenest source of electricity per kWh, since it doesn’t take that much to make a wind turbine and they generate heaps of electricity.
Are they all built the exact same
Then you never climbed 623 if you took the lift. She sure ain't John Noakes scaling nelson's column in 77.
It’s a shame that when she got up there she didn’t find out how to use a proper system of measurement
"aFtEr aLl tHaT cLiMb iS gOinG tO pAy oFf" *literally uses a elevator*
hahaha!: It's like when a rich dude gets sherpas to carry them up to the top of Mount Everest: "I did it!"
Terrifyingly interesting
Surely all that safety equipment is a danger in itself?
What part of the safety equipment is a danger ? 😂
How do they get electricity to power that lift there 🤔
Are you really that stupid?...
@@Hagg-o-tron 😂😂😂😂😂xd
They run on free range coal
It's a shame they only have a very short life.
Would feel safer if i had a parachute on tbh
I can do that
*In Gta*
She's cute.
Clipper?
No hahaha 🤣
During the last six weeks, the UK total turbine output has barely produced 2% of our electrcity. It's a fools paradise, but it's a money maker for some.
And yet, over the year they have produced over 20% of our energy.
But please, do go on sweetheart.
Boa tarde FIRST vai amém BOM trabalho 💪😷
Wind turbine turns only when there is wind
This is the UK. 95% of the time it's windy offshore, here.
@@timaustin2000 well then , great!
Hahahaha you should see how windy Scotland is
As if the UK doesn't have enough wind already without wasting electricity making more of it by running these big fans. What a waste of taxpayer's money!
The over 75's are now being hunted down by a new 800 strong BBC team of license enforcers and bailiffs who cost £38M to setup.
Videography was kinda trash
Cool view, if you took the lift most of the way to the top, did you actually climb 623 feet, guess the sharks are well fed on the millions of birds killed by this turbine...Sorry that you are going to get cancer from this turbine, you seem like a nice person...
If a bird flies into a turbine its natural selection at work haha. Do you see how much space there is
@@leon6777 Throwing shade at trumps claim wind turbines kill millions of birds every year while also causing cancer...
