About Jane Elliott
Jane Elliott is an internationally known teacher, lecturer, diversity trainer, and recipient of the National Mental Health Association Award for Excellence in Education.
She exposes prejudice and bigotry for what it is, an irrational class system based upon purely arbitrary factors.
In response to the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., Jane Elliott devised the controversial and startling, "Blue Eyes/Brown Eyes" exercise. This, now famous, exercise labels participants as inferior or superior based solely upon the color of their eyes and exposes them to the experience of being a minority.
About Dr. Jacqueline Battalora
Jacqueline Battalora is the author of Birth of a White Nation: The Invention of White People and Its Relevance Today (amzn.to/2DFARTK).
She was born in Edinburg, Scotland and lived in Antwerp, Belgium for six years before her family relocated to Victoria, Texas. It was this experience of attending high school and middle school in Victoria that informed her understanding of race in America.
While she is currently a lawyer and professor of sociology and criminal justice at Saint Xavier University, she is also a former Chicago Police officer. She holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University and has been engaged in anti-racist training since the mid 1990s.

I love you Jane! People are in denial about racism and race. Years ago I was in a music store, they were playing Beethoven's 5th Symphony. Beethoven's was a black man with very light skin, his grandfather was a moor. Moors were from Africa. I told the white lady at the cash register this and she told me I was wrong. The white guy standing behind me overheard my conversation with this woman and commented that I was right about Beethoven's heritage. The women at the cash register started to cry! I say black lives have always mattered!

I sat down with my best friend, a 60something White woman, and talked very candidly about my feelings and frustrations about "race" relations and the disparities in treatment among the colors. After a lengthy exchange she breathlessly exclaimed how "clueless" she has been. She had no idea how deep things ran. I could tell that I had only scratched the surface of her ignorance. And this is a woman who doesn't have a prejudice bone in her body. So imagine trying to have this conversation who is wilfully ignorant.

@Jo Jo Seriously, I have found many white people in the USA and Britain who have no idea that they are racist, and would deny it vigorously. they have no concept of institutionalized racism and they seem to think that because they don't use the N word they are not racist.
I have learned a lot about unconscious and institutionalized racism by reading 2 blogs in particular. Abagond and The Field Negro. I highly recommend them. Good education for an open minded white person who would like to truly examine their attitudes, having been brought up white in a racist society.

I remember recording Jane Elliott's "Brown Eyes, Blue Eyes" on VHS when my daughter was small (I still have it) it enlightened my life's prospective. Philippe my daughters are now 10 and 13 and they amaze me everyday. Like you said, they're not having that! I love it! I do have to educate them on the side about the truth of history in the U.S. and the world, even more so now that we moved from California to Texas!

Great show! Jane needs her own show because I could listen to her all day! Thanks for allowing her to get so much information out to viewers!! BTW: My son is currently a psychology major and one of his assignments in ethics class was to watch "Jane Elliott's Brown Eyes/Blue - Are you Racist?" video. We immdiately looked for more of her videos where she did this in other countries. I hope I'm a less ignorant white person because of Jane. It was so interesting to see how many "blue eyed" people couldn't keep their mouth shut long enough to listen and insisted they had been discriminated against too. Jane's objective was to help them realize that skin color determines the extent to which we can or cannot conform to societal rules. White people can change their behavior to fit in and become accepted while minorities don't have this luxury because their skin color can't be changed.
It's also interesting to see how often classism is confused w racism. I've met both black and white people who've acheived success with a mental block about how hard it is for most blacks and even poor white people, women, disabled, etc to acheive success. They literally cannot comprehend and assume that anyone can be successful since they accomplished success. Most don't even realize how they were helped in skipping steps on the success ladder.
White, Male, Straight, Healthy, Wealthy, Educated - short ladder to success which often includes a back door to prestigious colleges & a pass on criminal behavior. Black/Brown, Female, LGBT, Disability, Poor, Underfunded education community -- long, LONG, L O N G ladder to success, forced to actually excel in education, compete at the main entrance to colleges w a bonus of longer prison sentences for the same crime.
Reminder: Priests burned women at the stake for curing illnesses with plants because this diminished a dependency on God. "Christians" loved holy wars & stoning infidels. White "Christians" have a historical record of wiping out tribes, sterilizing women and taking their children to be raised in white "Christian" orphanages (they get LOTS of gov tax $$$ to brainwash these kids). Trump recently did this to refugees at the border. BTW: he plugged the bottleneck for legal border entry & asylum seekers to force them to enter illegally so he & his warped "Christian" extremists could sterilize brown women and kidnap brown kids in order to hand them to pro-white-conservative "Christian" nuts.

That she is invited to share her views by Black hosts is an honor but she’s absolutely aware that the audience that she needs to educate is white. Dear Mr.Matthews. I always appreciate the conversations you have about racism. I just had an educational experience this weekend with a Black woman educator. Her name is Catrice M. Jackson. I think it's necessary to also recenter the conversation with experts like Ms. Jackson, a Black woman, who has intimate knowledge about white supremacy. It's time to uplift the voices of Black folks, like Catrice. She really has a perspective that is the medicine that I/white folk need to tackle the cancer that white supremacy is. I'm a white liberal person and I have the cancer as well--I 'm finally out of denial and realize that I will need to work on it until I breathe my last breath. Ms. Jackson is chemotherapy for the white soul. Ms. Jackson's method is straight on, no coddling, and it doesn't feel good--just like chemo! What baffles me is that she has been doing this for decades. Since the day after Martin Luther King Jr’s death. Why is it NOW that we are hearing about her? Spread the word about this woman! And her Brown Eyes/Blue Eyes exercise, seen in many ways on CZcams. She’s incredible!!

Just a suggestion Philippe, you should do a show on the labeling of "Black Identity Extremist". And the enforcement of laws based on this labeling. There was a recent arrest.
I recommend the work of Dr. Joy De Gruy. (I don't remember her married name but it's hyphenated with Dr De Gruy, her maiden name, so you can find her that way.) Her book is called Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome. I heard her speak one time, and her explanation of how the European cultures became so aggressive and so convinced of European superiority is those cultures' belief in a Work Ethic based on the fact that the European winter forced people to work really hard to grow enough food to produce a harvest that could be preserved through the winter months or starve, and to find ways to stay warm during the winters or freeze. This history led to a belief that cultures where people didn't need to work so hard were lazy and inferior. I have added my own sort of sub-explanation; namely that the consumption of strong alcohol such as whiskey and brandy became so integrated into the European life style that European cultures became alcoholic in mentality. And I know you know when an addict encounters people he doesn't ask himself what can I learn from and share with these people but how can I rip these people off, take from them and subjugate them to serve my wants and needs. Think about it.

I think its interesting about the census part because Mexicans and most Latinos are forced to fill out that there white on the census and I think that's probably the largest growing group. Unless it's changed recently.

I kinda disagree with this method. Due to we have already tried to educate a savage. It really puts us The Descendants of Slaves in a lose lost situation because we are still suffering trying to teach people to treat is as human. So basically we have to exhaust ourselves loving people that continue to harm us the victims of racism white supremacy.

Thomas Shields I agree, it's not the victim's job to fix the criminal. It's their job to fix themselves. They constructed and benefit from race and racism, they are the ones that have to dismantle it. It's not our business to forgive and improve them.
I have thought about this issue as well. But what are our alternatives? The way I see it, we have three alternatives (and they are not mutually exclusive). we must either engage in civil disobedience, violence (which I have a problem with and do not condone) or we need to mount a very aggressive campaign to get progressive people of all colors elected to office, and I mean a very aggressive campaign which would include ending corruption in the voting process. There has to be consequences to their actions and these are the only options that I see.
Thomas Shields I agree and SEPARATION is the only solution. You don't mix tribes up and expect peace to be the order of the day. You don't see Lions intermingling with tigers although they're all cats but they have different pathologies. God told us not to take Caucasoids for partners for a reason.

P.S. I am the main retired cop that has been interviewed about police abuse of power allegations, in the Midwest, since the Michael Brown killing. I say this because I am always asked my to give opinions on white cops abuse of power and use of deadly force. However, I always say that legal answers and police protocol critique are not what is needed. The answers are in the moral and humane discussions. Awareness and acceptance of the truths brought forth by these two women is THE MISSING PUZZLE PIECE in solving police abuse on black people in The United States.

Sadiah Ani - It is correct to be suspicious. Both of these women have made appearances on The C.O.W.S radio program. Their mission , purpose and "results" are thoroughly examined. That program is the only place where I have seen so-called "anti-racist" be questioned by a non-white person who does not assume that these white people are being honest and/or not racist.
