Making people move their waistlines to his crafty basslines is all in a day´s work for Mark Farina. Born and raised in the quiet Park Ridge suburb just outside of Chicago, he schooled himself with the likes of Kraftwerk, Yello and Front 242, listening to dance stations like WBMX and WGCI. After hanging out at local Chicago clubs like Medusa´s, he met his future mixing partner, Derrick Carter, and together they piloted an acclaimed Friday night mix show on Northwestern University´s WNUR.
Farina set off to San Francisco in the early ´90s and hasn´t looked back. For four years, he headlined a Monday night party and became known in the Bay Area for championing Mushroom Jazz, a downtempo sound incorporating everything from Soul II Soul to De La Soul. With these parties regularly drawing 700 people who knew how to start the week, and an accompanying series of Mushroom Jazz mix tapes, the Farina legend soon spread nationwide. - Hudba

Like many of you, this mix changed my life and the direction I went musically and socially… for the better. Listening to it again now as I make my children breakfast.
This mix, along with Derrick Carter's Cosmic Disco, Todd Terry's Live At Hard Times, and Coldcut's original 70 Minutes Of Madness, changed my life forever. There were plenty of other notable mixes, such as both MF's and DC's other recorded mixes, like Connect, About Now, San Francisco Sessions, and a few others. But no other mixes ever came close to doing anything to me on such a deeply philosophical level as these 4 mixes.

Lemme stop you right there: don't EVER compare Derrick Carter's Cosmic Disco mix to anything else; that was the greatest house mix ever recorded & widely distributed.
Wow what a classic. The San Francisco Sound. Bulletproof parties.... damn those were incredible times for House Music in SF.

Absolutely.. me as well. I remember listening to this a lot on the way back from a dope ass Midwest party. Usually anywhere from a 2hr - 5hr drive back. Where I live is right in the center of Chicago, Twin Cities, Madison, Green Bay, Milwaukee Rochester (mn), . Fuck I miss those days.

Fond memories of this mix! Took it to Vegas with my girlfriend and me back in the late 90's and had some serious fun partying to these unreal tunes.

This was such a great time for west coast house/tech/trance, one of my older freinds came back from San Fran in '96 with some tapes that blew our Iowa minds, and I never looked back. RIP moonshine and all the fantasic work they did. United DJ's of America was sold all over the country, no doubt it helped break open the sound in the late 90's!

Back in the day, my buddy bought this CD for his girlfriend mistakenly, thinking it was something else. She hated it, and gave it back to him, and this introduced us into to this type of house. My world would never be the same. This is, to this day, one of my favorite house mixes of all time. Imagine just stumbling in to this type of shit nowadays lol.

Funny story, so I got this mix off Napster, so I considered myself public enemy #1. Everytime I listened to it I thought they were gonna break through the windows and bust me for piracy which made this mix gold to me. Its still is a treasure!

Kendrick is one of the most talented hip hop MCs in the last 5 years. The greatest musicians and singers have cooperated with him. Do you know how Herbie Hancock is? I hope you do, otherwise you should check him out. Iif Herbie Hancock, one the greatest jazz musicians who's been killing it since 1965 acknowledges (and cooperates with) Kendrick, I think that he deserves some respect.
