I’m right there with you! I also believe that your performance matters the most not so much your equipment. As long as it looks good your will be good. Money can buy equipment but it can’t buy skills, that comes with time and lots of practice. Good video 👍🏼
if your performance sucks it just like putting lipstick on a PIG.. beautiful setup... but awful skillzz not a good match!!
Preach! Keep a clean setup and rock the party!
You are absolutely right. do what you do and have fun and work on your CRAFT.... just because we purchase half a million $$$ in equipment does not mean you are a good DJ. !! the lights looks good BUT, YOU have to be good!! PUT IN THE WORK!!! I am 25 yrs in, and I still work on it!!
Yes! So true! The work is never done.
Agree with you bro! Hell of a party! I've never had a client say, "Our wedding sucked b/c the we didn't like the DJ's setup" LOL!
Yes man, we work for blasting crowd on a dance flor, not for impress other DJs
Bro, you did a GREAT JOB! Now these days people don’t want to pay for DJs, they feel like the DJ should be the cheapest on there list when it comes to have a party. I’ve also bought the same gig bar move too, it’s a great light, quick setup and also great light to add to small packages for parties instead hauling around big lighting equipment. What you stated in the video is FACTS! The equipment has maybe 20% of a DJ, the rest of 80% is based on the DJ skills. Keep doing what you’re doing bro, no matter what you do people will hate like it or not. As long as your client is happy, that’s what matters! Very informative and detailed video!
Where did you purchase the gravity stand from? I was thinking on doing the same thing too
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I believe I got it from NLFX. It was one we purchased awhile ago so I can't remember off hand. There's a ton of companies that are making them now though. I really love the quality of theirs though!
@@DJILLEE appreciate the information! keep creating great content videos! 💪🏼
you have me subscribed!
adding... first time I see a DJ plays I Feel Like A Woman in their gig logs.. I'm in Montreal and its one of the no1 while we do corporate partys or weddings..
You’re absolutely correct. The couple doesn’t care. The guests don’t care. DJs buy a bunch of shit because THEY CARE
Exactly! I’m not saying that we can just put up a card table with cables everywhere but I am saying that they don’t care if what you’re using is top of the line or inexpensive, as long as it sounds good and you’re killing it it doesn’t matter to them.
I agree 100%. That is why I stopped listening to other DJs' comments especially if they're younger than me (those young'uns). I've been doing this going on 25+ years. I have been through everything that you can imagine. I do know that having reliable professional equipment helps quite a bit. The average age of my SR equipment is about 10 years. I do take care of it so it doesn't look all beat up. You've got skills as seen in your videos. Take care and keep them dancing!
Lets buy some truss, lets DMX some moving heads, lets dress the gear, omg the list goes on. What happened to the term "mobile". Some set ups are just way over the top, make it as easy as possible for yourself, keep it simple, keep it up to date and your client won't give a flying fig about the set up as long as you perform to your best.
Absolutely. Why complicate things for what is (in the grand scheme of things) a small event? I'm not a DJ, but if I was I'd aim to keep things as clean, simple and slick as possible. I do corporate events, theatre, live bands etc. If it's a one evening only event, I keep things as simple as I can; a T-Bar with LED Pars for a stage wash, powered speakers and a mixing board... If it's a longer/bigger event where a lot more elements are needed (or an event where people want all the bells and whistles), that's when all the movers, haze, dry ice, amp racks etc. get rolled out...the client will be paying for it though.
Hey DJ ILLEE, appreciate you for putting this out there. I just came across your video and it's spot on. I'm just really getting into the game and I'm currently rocking the Numark NS4X and I gets down widdit lol. Just this past Friday I was spinnin for my wife and 2 of my sisters in our basement just having a great time! I swear it turned into a 5hr set because the music was good and they could care less how things looked.
Nice vlog dude. You rocked that party once again. I hear you say you could be rocking on a Behringer system and the people wouldn't care, as if Behringer is a bad thing. I have Behringer tops and bins for years and they do the job just fine. Good to see you are gigging again while here in Ireland everywhere is still closed venue wise and very few parties or events happening. Not sure if you have a belief about Behringers but at the moment I can't afford to upgrade my gear as anything I have looked at to replace my Behringers would mean I have to shell out around 4k, which I just don't have to spare. The bins and tops do me grand and have never had any complaints from anyone. I would love to upgrade but simply am unable to afford it. I would also say social media isn't good for this as I constantly see other DJ's setups and then think I would love to have that but again it is a question of affordability. Some guys have unbelievable setups with expensive moving heads, podiums, fancy DJ booths, costly speaker systems, controllers and other add ons that cost big money. I will get there slowly. Keep up the good vids man.
You’re a prime example of what this video is all about! You’re out doing gigs with the gear you have and honestly, your clients don’t care the brand on the speakers! I only said behringers because they’re inexpensive. If you look back I did a review of some behringer speakers that I actually really love. We have like 5 pairs of them and I’ve owned closer to 10 pairs for extra speakers. They’re work horses and honestly sound great especially for the price. Use what you have, don’t worry about what others are using and only upgrade if you feel you absolutely need to! More expensive speakers probably won’t make you more money but always improving as a Dj will. Thanks for watching!!
I’ve been Dj’ over 40!years never had a single person ask about equipment or skills i do have some Behringer but always buy good stuff and I have the original gig bar it works fine for me keep up the good work
Great vid. Did you prepare playlists for that wedding?
On a serious note, I would only add one thing a light dark facade just to hide the road cases. All in all you sounded great!
In baseball, nobody cares what bat a hitter used to hit a home run. They are just happy with the home run.
I super frickin agree with you bro!! Now I have a decent set up, but I'd much rather have low grade equipment and be able to kill it in my performance than the other way around. Ideally you want to have both, which I do by the way, but the Dj's that talk that crap are the same ones that cant beatmatch, use the sync button (YEAH I SAID IT), and hope their so call fancy setup will compensate for their lack of skill. Well said bro.
I agree with your sentiment…. My position it’s do you and always try to do better each time…
You right about djs being douches to other djs
One example I can give you its the conversation about the Facade… I see a Lot of DJs that use facades and the minute they buy a console or a furniture style stand… the same facade they been using for years is the worst thing in the world
Man not that it matters but you’ve just gained allll my respect and admiration!!! Equipment is still a key component to the setup but I always say let the music speak for itself…I don’t mix songs I blend and transition the right songs at the right times. I only wish I had enough confidence to get on camera but for now my pictures and videos tell the story feel free to check em out. Good sh!t man!!
Thank you so much!! Get yourself on camera! Growth happens from being uncomfortable!
True, BUT, when you have an impressive looking setup, the bride and groom (and guests) DO take notice. Like my custom facade
Great Gig log! Thanks so much for your commentary and I couldn't agree with you more about the equipment! Look forward to more of your Gig logs! Thanks!
Garter and bouquet will disappear entirely in a few years. The end part comes off as creepy (especially when couples think it's cute when a six year old catches the bouquet).
I prefer smaller setups, but my larger wedding packages exist for couples that want them. Oftentimes I look at the venue and make a suggestion based on the room. I do try to look like I belong at the wedding by color matching, but I always use wash effects over lasers because the latter looks terrible in photography.
I think that's why uplighting is the best upsell and one I've been killing it with lately. Large setups make you look good; uplighting makes EVERYONE look good.
That said, I focused on "gitting gud" before upgrading lights, which I have what I have because I like them.
Awesome video bro!! Your set up is clean and like you said it’s all about creating an unforgettable experience with your music library.
it all matters
i love ur set ups and i like you got more lighting than other people i seen. kinda old school then just two moving heads even that disco ball so cool to see it no i'm not a old person btw lol
Loved it....and good words..I thing Dj's care to much....
Thank you!!
Nice video .. great content.. thanks for advice.
Agree 💯 on the formatting of weddings. The traditional dances etcetera are not always wanted nowadays. More partying for sure. I also agree with the quality of your DJing vs equipment, though a nice kit is still nice 👍. Keep spinning!
I agree nice gear is still nice! Lol. Just not as important as djs seem to think. Thanks bro!
Great video and great advice. Keep the videos coming #Respect
You remind me of me. I've used 2 Chinese Gigabar for years and your set list is closest to mine I've seen. Yet people don't want to leave at the end. I just now added two tomshine mini moving heads to each Gigabar and it's impressive for bridal entry.
We use inexpensive moving washes for our bigger gigs and no one has a clue. They were less than $50 each and they’re holding up great. To everyone else, they’re impressive. Use what works for you!!
@@DJILLEE me too
People don’t care about your set as long as when they have to come close to you there not Tripping over cords.
💯
1. Agreed about everything you said re: setup vs. skills. 2. Personally - I think the bare speaker tripods look SO much better than the corny horrible columns with the white material over it everyone seems to be using in the U.S. why ??? It's the DJ equivalent to all those traditional parts of a wedding you mentioned at the beginning and it needs to go just like they are... 3. That said - I would change a few things in your set up - first of all speakers need to be much more apart to get better sound coverage. It's another strange custom I see with American DJ gig logs. Second - the gig light rack is fine for a lot of events, but you are losing way too much of it having it located in the back - you can see it in the video blocked by the speakers and probably you as well. That should be addressed imo, change the location (and perhaps just changing the speakers location will do), because that's not focusing on setup - that's getting the best use of your current gear for your customers imo. And again, agreed with your general point, thanks for a great video !
*looking for any reviews that mentioned my setup…0
So true. Do you with your gear, and be a great DJ
Man! Great point! I enjoyed your latest gig log btw and your review was why I even looked into the gig bars. Keep those videos coming bro!
@@DJILLEE awesome! That gig bar gets some shit, but it’s a bangin dj light for sure
what kind of gravity stand is that... i have the GB Move as well.. and i Hate the tripod.. especially if i have to set it up, behind the DJ Booth... thanks.. .
I cant remember the model name now but I think Chauvet and k&m makes something similar as well. The tripods are horrible! I didn’t even pull mine out of the box lol.
Are your gravity stands one piece or the come on two pieces? Now I do understand what your saying I mix really good but I had a couple asked me what How does my setup look like(it was a wedding for 150 people) I told them my event table comes with 2 scrims (black & white) they said good . Their brother’s wedding they said the DJ was tacky but he played ok (I guess they wanted the wedding to look nice 100%
This is kind of the caveat of this video. I should have specified that the setup still needs to look clean no matter what gear you’re using. Yes, the gravity stand has two parts. The pole screws into the base and goes into two separate bags. Thanks for watching!
dj gear is made to show off the new stuff while the old one is good enought. its made as a money trap for those who has complexes and feel inferior with their talents alone .. :)
By the way , what is that big item by the booth?
It’s a folded horn single 18” subwoofer. I had a custom table cloth made to cover it up since they’re pretty ugly lol. Sounds incredible though and I’ve done parties with over 400 people with just one. We have 8 though for larger jobs.
Interesting point and well taken, but on the flip side, the majority of clients and guests don't really care about DJ skills either, they just wanna hear music and pay as little as possible to hear it! Respect to your skills, it seems to me you should be working the club scene, where your skills would truly be appreciated :) Thanks for the video. Pro tip, when you can see the collar stays coming through the material it's time for a new shirt :)
🤦🏼♂️ I love how these shirts fit and I can’t find them anywhere anymore! 😂 you’re right they need to be thrown out. The clients that want the cheapest are probably not going to be our clients in the end. I appreciate the kind words! If the club world paid more id still be working it. I still do the occasional clubs and bars. I used to do clubs and mobile at the same time. I’d leave a wedding and head over for closing set. I’m too old for that now! Lol. A lot of sets that I do were developed in the club and transferred over to mobile. Thanks for watching! I’ll get a few new shirts! Lol
Why would you even give these haters the time of day & give them the attention they desperately crave?
With that being said, all the gear in the world isn't going to make a shitty DJ any less shitty but let's not pretend like it doesn't matter.. Presentation is just as important if not more important to some of these folks. On the flipside, if you've ever been to one of these Wedding showcases, it's usually the guys with the fancy rigs & 3 tier packages that get booked. Nobody there is asking to let them hear you mix. You could be the best mobile DJ in the world but if you're at one of these showcases with some Amazon rig with chinese lights and the guy next to you has scrimmed totems with $2000 Chauvet moving heads but couldn't spin on a merry go round...guess who the client is going to gravitate towards?
Yes you’re very right in this situation. Most of our bookings are from word of mouth or have seen us at other weddings. That being said, our bridal show setups are very impressive since we’re usually providing the staging and 12 moving heads for the event producers at our local ones. We get a bit more exposure at them because of this. You have great points here! As for giving haters a spotlight, I knew I was giving them the attention they wanted but it really did shed some light on something I’ve noticed about the dj community for a very long time and felt like it was funny to post a positive review while reading how terrible my setup is 😂. Their opinion doesn’t matter to me, my clients opinion does! Thanks for watching!!!
Size dont matter she says ...its what you do with it.....Well maybe I agree with her but I'd rather have a big un as well as be good at it lol.
What does matter in my opinion is cleaning up the setup, that sound system is gonna be in wedding pictures, therefor some people need to learn about gaff tape. And I wanna get a pair of ranes, and a 72…….but I’m holding off until I can mix bar for bar on anything I play. So far that’s only about 30% of my sets. So that’s gonna be a treat to myself.
That’s a great idea! 😂 a nice reward for your hard work. I should have said in the video that no matter what your setup should be clean. Hide your cables!!
