How did you manage to activate Windows 11 using Windows 8 key after Microsoft had stopped it a few months ago?
At the moment of activation I was not aware Microsoft had stopped it, so I did nothing special.
But thinking about it, my idea is that the trick is to have Windows 8 already activated online. I am guessing that a non activated W8 key will not activate W10.
With such an old and underpowered i3, he should have scrapped this laptop and buy a new one or a second hand newer one
You overestimate what the average user needs a laptop for. This laptop will be used for many years to come for CZcams and Office, without any problem. (We upgraded to ssd and 8gb of ram)

To create a usb drive that works on old hardware? In my case my method works better, as I always want the latest Windows version, so there are not a lot of updates that need to be done on weak hardware.
About SSD, I don't even think about that. I am more concerned about mechanical drive failures.
Ιf you create an windows 11 iso you can make it work with older systems without doing all these steps!
Yes, I know that, but I always like to install the latest version, so there are not many updates that need to be installed, especially on older and weaker systems. That would mean I always need to remake that drive, so it's basically the same thing.
You can actually downlaod an older version of windows 11 and then create the usb stick with the options from rufus but i understand what you mean@@UltimateDIY
