I used to use a hammock to camp from time to time. I still will use it when out for a day but i do not sleep in one anymore. I'm too tall and it hurts my back to be in one all night.

Note to Self: Don't do hammock videos during fat week with an abdominal hernia and a 17 year old worn out mesh implant. Or edit better unless you are trying to do an imitation of someone squeezing a water balloon. Time to take the VA up on that binder. I hate getting old...😆

I have been just using a Thermarest Z-lite in my hammock for years... works fine.

I like the option of a mat, as it has so many uses. Sometimes you don’t have the right conditions or time to hang a hammock, but you might be able to string a tarp, toss your mat out, and call it a day. I’m still rocking the ol’ therm-a-rest whenever I can get away with it, cause I’ve never trusted inflatable anything and am too hard on my gear. If it’s cold enough to need more R-value, I just drop the mosquito net, use a single quilt clipped to one side, and burrito roll that sucker. 😅

I own a Explorer Deluxe Zip XL from Hennessy Hammocks. No BS its thee best hammock I've ever laid in. I came with the free snake skins so it packs in a tube sack thats installed onto the ridgeline and the hammock it self so packing it up is a breeze.
Same and same, though I think mine is the Jungle explorer, can’t remember...it does have two layers (dark grayish green on outside, tan inside). I’ve since picked up half a dozen or more other hammocks for fun, day trips, loaners and the like, but I always go back to the original when weight isn’t a chief concern.
If you haven’t tried the Dutchwaregear’s woobie suspension system, I highly recommend it. I removed the heavy rope and zip tie out of my Hennessy long ago and replaced it with a much smaller loop of dynema (IIRC), paracord will work too, saving a lot of bulk and weight. The woobie suspension saves even more bulk and weight, and it’s easily adjustable. I paired it with some of their tree straps, while I was at it, and couldn’t be happier. I liked it so much that all of my hammocks, even some cheap $25 ones, have the same suspension system.

Okay I know that you didn't test this in cold weather. But do you have to use an under quilt when you use a sleeping pad?
In cold weather I would definitely use an underquilt.

You’d be surprised. There’s a bit of a learning curve to get the hang just right to suit your comfort, along with how to actually lay in it (recommend diagonally), but I’m far more comfortable in a hammock than any other sleep system (even my everyday bed).
