  • (ciro589m here) Here are a pair of little JVC SP-EXA3 "Wood Cone" speakers. The special feature of them is the cone which is made of real wood. It looks fantastic even tho I think it's not really necessary. JVC claims that "To recreate the sound of instruments played in a concert hall, speakers should be designed as though they were actual musical instruments. In particular, the speaker diaphragms ought to be made of wood - the same material used for making violins, cellos, and other instruments" which makes me laugh a lot.
In any case, these do really sound amazing. They sound like they're much bigger with a lot of dynamic, stereo separation and impressive bass response. Cabinets are also made from real wood and with pretty good quality banana plug connectors on the back. There's a bass reflex port on the back too. Drivers are just 3" fullranges and they're so well built! Rubber surrounds, wood cones and cast frames. Part number is JVC LE10009-012A by the way. Keep in mind: no sub connected! My new favorite little speakers

You forgot to mention the most important thing that those wood cones were soaked in sake 🤣🤣🤣 to make them sound good.

So why exactly you laughed so loud? The JVC-engineers seem to have done the job exactly right or didn’t they? I agree: excellent little speakers, i have them in lots of version and use the WD10 floorstanding front woodcones and 3 WD8 speakers as center and rears as my dailydriver setup. Never will change this again.

It's just really funny thinking about that, it's pure marketing.. even tho it works! By the way I'd love to hear the floorstanding variants, they look very interesting
