- An intro to my USS Missouri build!!! This is the 1/200 scale kit by Trumpeter.
In this video I go over the basic kit, and the detail set that I purchased for it from Pontos.

Looking forward to Video 2 in 2029
video 2 ? arrives in 2020....250 manhours later ...outside his leisure time of course..
Should have put your money on video 3 ; )
This has probably already been pointed out, but the "dents" on the side of the hull are known in the Navy as "dishing," which typically occurs when some junior officer "bumps" the ship into a pier or a bollard or something (or harbor tugs and other light watercraft "kiss" the hull). Of course, once the JO dings the ship he'll receive a chewing out from the executive officer and the more senior ship drivers, but don't ask me how I know that. ;-)
Also, I was stationed in Hawaii, in 1998, when the Mighty Mo was towed across from the mothball fleet and tied up at its final berth over on Pearl Harbor's Ford Island. I and many others -- from all the military service branches, not just the Navy and Marine Corps (battleships once had a sizable Marine contingent on board) -- not to mention plenty of Americans from all walks of civilian life -- helped restore it to its former glory.
The Iowa-class BBs were the height of U.S. non-aviation-related naval military technology for decades and through several refits as some of them were taken out of mothballs and then put back into active service. They're brutal war machines and not at all hesitant to display their mailed fists, and I say that admiringly.
I build wood ship models, primarily. I will watch you put together this plastic kit. When I was a kid, they were mostly plastic, with some wooden planes thown in. I am 70, and still like doing it.
My cousin served on the USS Missouri BB-63 from 1989-1992, this would definitely be something he would love to have to display, awesome work!
This is a very serious model in scale!
Excellent detailing and quality for your money!
congratulations to everyone who purchased this large-scale copy!
Let's see 20 episodes for the Arizona....50 for the Mo. Lol! Ol Solomon from Life After Work will love this build!! Love the Pontos set!! Well you know I wont miss an episode! Cant wait!!👍👍
LOL! Yeah maybe 50. I don't know. I never planned out the AZ build ending up at 20. It just did! I could do this series in just 20.... they would just be far and few between each one. The Pontos is what will slow me down. But I really cant wait. I'm excited about all the little details and hope that I can make this ship come to life!
We're all looking forward to this build, it looks like it's going to be a great model !
Great job. My Dad served on The Missouri aka The Big Mo. I have a small silver copy of the ship that Dad was given at the time of his discharge.
I'll come back in 5 years when it's finished.
LOL
It will most definitely be finished by then 😉
This is gonna be one heck of an epic adventure following along with you on this monster. Can’t wait!
With your skills this will be a work of art. Your attention to detail will bring it to life. Looking forward to following this one. Oh ya. it's huge.
Glad I’ve found this video 2 1/2 years after it came out as I’ve found a new series of vids to watch following your progress back to back to the final piece 😃! I know you’re already completed but I’m excited to see this mate!
What an amazing scale your USS Missouri model kit is! Thanks for posting your excellent video!
I have the 1/200 bismarck with the pontos set what blew me away about the pontos set is the main guns are rifled!! - most impressed with your work
I am super stoked about the kit and looking forward to see all your build videos. SUBSCRIBED!
That's wow look at the sheer size of that. Perfect for RC
Here after it was finished. Where it all began :)
As a kid i always threw it together way to fast! No prepainting parts on the parts tree etc these guys do the right way!
Really cool, I’m glad CZcams recommended your channel. Can’t wait to watch the videos you’ve already uploaded about this building your other builds. Also excited for future videos on this build.
I am so very excited to see this build. I really enjoyed your build of the Arizona!
Videoing this monster is a challenge. But I'm looking forward to your approach to this ship. Maybe; I'll pick up a tip or two... Good luck!
Yeah man..... I'm thinking about getting some kind of rail system that will allow me to "roll" the camera along next to the ship. Right now I have to stand about 5 feet away from the model to get it to fit in the frame. And at that distance you can't see anything other than it is huge. But, I think its gonna have a lot of cool "areas" loaded with detail that I'll focus on from one episode to another.
BOY! Talk about a daunting project! Good luck to you sir.
Wow, what a beast. I look forward to its construction!
Nice model, and the movie was great,if I were to even attempt a kit like this,I would stick to the basics, don't about the detailing, but some would be required,to build a model like this means, a commitment to excellence, and patience, the best part is when it's finished
Got to go aboard her where she is stationed at in Pearl Harbor watching over the Arizona memorial. Had an awesome tour guide who was impressed with my knowledge of the ship and the war and he actually gave me an original team wood bolt hole cover from the ships original decking.
That's insane - first of all the scale - hell, the turrets could pass for 1/35 scale tank turrets, but also the stupid amount of details - and on top of that, you decide to top it off with even more aftermarket parts! It's mind-boggling and I admire your geist in getting this done. Me, I'm keeping to my 1/35 scale tanks and stuff.
But I will follow this build with interest.
Congratulations on the new house and the kit with extra's...Wow!
I will be watching your build with interest Ben 👍
>looking up this drone i saw on an ad that was a scam
>look up the drone site
>randomly stumble on this completely unrelated video
>its literally just a guy building a scale model of an old battleship
>hes very happy
>his happiness makes me happy
>enjoy the rest of my day
Am I the only one who has a large stash of un-built models because I'll miss the glory and magic of opening the box after it's been built ? I think theres something special about opening a model box of nicely packed parts.
v8cool 2 : thats me...
Me too...
Have two vintage Airfix boxes of a DH Mosquito and Devon. Unable to build them for the same reason. The boxes are more magic than the models itself. Cannot believe I say this, bu that's how it is.
Your model builds and your videos are impressive. Keep up the good work!!
Trumpeter makes some of the best model!
I have the Missouri and the Arizona kits and the Pontos sets for both. I just found your site and I can't wait to watch the builds. Good luck with it.
A lot of work You have here, I hope to see this great modell fnished. Looks amazing..!thanks for sharing..!
Very nice kit. That woodes deck is really amazing.
Looking forward to this, you know it's a big kit when you have to move home just to fit it in. Lol, best of luck
WOW!! I can't wait to follow along on this build. Dave
Good luck... Can't wait to see your follow up videos.
Wow. That look like a lifetime’s work to build that.
I used to simulate tin canning on the haul just by painting panels with masking and airbrush. 1/200 scale is large enough to make it truly 3D into the plastic which I never have seen personally. If I had that model you profiled I would end up spending 3 years on it.
Now this, for me is, really exciting. I am subscribing to your channel to watch this build, and others. I was in the Marine Corps and have been on many ships. And the Missouri was in Washington State for a long period of time. I really loved that ship. Going to be exciting to watch the build.
James Maroon I hope you enjoy the build!
Trumpeter ships plans are vague to say the least. Especially on bonus type parts or extra details so to speak. Great kits. As far as the left over parts are concerned. According to modeling shows, it's assumed the modeler would do extensive studies for detailing purposes and not just slapping together a $300 model. Some modelers put a massive amount of zeal into their builds where others just model to pass time. Thanks for giving us a chance at viewing to details of this great kit.:-)
WOW! Awesome kit!
Wow that's a huge ambitious project. Have fun
My congratulations. And compliments on this video.
Greetings from New Zealand looking forward to watching this build good luck.🇳🇿
Yes!!! Thank you! New Zealand is high on my list of places to visit someday!!!
It's going to be difficult getting this inside a bottle I'm thinking.
LOL! (My mind immediately goes to where can I find a big bottle....hmmmm)
A "typhoon fifth" is a good place to start.
Empty large fish tank,LOL
@@TheMidwestModelShop might try building one from acrylic.
Definitely on my to do list as well. Although I'll also be throwing in the Veteran Model 40mm BOFORs. They look pretty awesome.
This ship is HUGE!
looking forward, Good luck!
I"ve got one and I'm going to set it up for remote control...got a few methods for setting up the drive system. got about 20 pounds of working room for batteries and engines...as well as rudder and other controls..might even power the turrets...
This is a great model! I watched the most recent on the turrets, great work!
That kit looks amazing! I've been eyeing off a similar giant-scale (as I call them) kit, at my local hobby store. I've built a mountain of model kits, but I've never built anything so huge and so detailed. The kits cost a few hundred dollars, here in Australia. When I eventually get around to buying a 1:200 scale kit, it will either be a ship, like that one, or there's also a submarine kit that has a cut-away side, showing interior detail. Both are around AU$500, just for the kit.
wow....big model! Great Video!
Looking forward to getting this kit
Damn that is cool. Looks like you have a lot of work ahead of you on this build. Have fun with it.
Love your video's and the music ;-)
Now that is one
Big model ship! Thanks for sharing sharing I liked and subbed to your channel 😃
Got the Tamiya kit as a first anniversary gift for my late wife 20 years ago.
Belonged to a modeling group and found it at a swap meet the group was at.
Not being a ship guy a few guys asked why and after I explained it was an anniversary gift a few of the older guys started to speak up to save the newlywed guy from committing a horrible marital faux paux and ending up with a couple nights on the couch.
Seeing what was coming I spoke up and said no guys she asked me for this kit if I ever found it.
Those older fellows faces went from "we have to save this poor fellow" to "you bastard how did you find THE ONE".
Gary Sprandel holy cow that’s an awesome story!!! I am very blessed as well. My wife is very supportive of this hobby.
@@TheMidwestModelShop sounds like we both married waaaay out of our class. 😁.
Our biggest bone of contention was shelf space and work bench sharing.
@@garysprandel1817 No joke, in our new house, I immediately had to build her a large bench to put up next to mine. That for her to paint bird houses and work on her doll house. There is a SEPARATE ROOM exclusively for scrap books. I don't do any of those things. My bench is at least the same size as hers, fortunately. Yeah, I love it! But in fairness, I have a separate workshop thats all mine so... I guess its all fair! LOL! Good woman are a blessing for sure. I'm glad I finally found one.
Very,very nice!!👍👌
Enjoy these type of videos a lot, sort of living out my old model building days through these have developed issues with chemical smells and i react heavily to the standard types of glues and paint these days, so i am sort of stuck at just looking at others building and i have to say the level of skill a lot of these people have, i am amazed and feel ashamed for the poor models i made in comparison, from i was i think 10 and until i was 21 i built a lot of model planes and helicopters and tanks, however one horrible party my sister had held i went from 52 models down to 12 complete models because drunk people and their tendency to think goes to zero, so i had a room full of empty shelves and a lot of pieces to pick up after that, and it kind of killed my interest in doing more back then and now with allergies and chemical sensitivity i am sort of unable to get back into it now that i have the time and money for it again.
Godspeed with this build.....geez
I have built the 1/200 Arizona, Yamato, and Bismarck. I have the Missouri, but haven't started it yet. These are wonderful kits which require time and patience.
Museum quality. Enjoy!
how much are these kits
Awesome! Any thoughts on the Hood?
Amazing model.....
The Hull looks intimidating enough when it come to painting the damn thing. I'm starting with the missouri (1/535) from Revell. Wanted to see the difference and im glad im not starting with that as a beginner.
Looking forward to watching your build. (I have this kit in my stash)
Wowww .... very best model!!!!
That's pretty amazing. I wish they would start making some jets in large scale like 1/18.. The detail would be awesome...
JESUS that is enormous!!! I wish I had room for one. Or the wallet lol. but mostly the room. (Found out yesterday that I need to probably stop building planes haha!)
That’s a nice kit!
Wow! Look at all that PPE 😍
good luck to you. and hope things will work out, I love ships too
Love to get my hands on that kit. One day maybe
After seeing how much this cost and the detail kit I'll enjoy watching you build it
Wow! I'm not a ship builder but, wow!
I have this model awaiting it’s turn. A bit intimidating. I would love to see a 1\200 USS North Carolina. My father-in-law served aboard her in WWII, so she has a special place in my heart. The Trumpeter 1/350 model has.....problems. I hope someone releases a more accurate version of her someday. Looking forward to your build series of the Missouri! Subbed and belled!
ladders.. scuppers.. decks.. bulkheads.. overhead..head,, below decks.. just to name a few from memory lane lol
I'm looking forward to your build videos on this one!!! I just got done with the Tamiya 1/350 scale USS Missouri circa 1991 (I served on board her then). I want to do this one in her WWII configuration. It makes me proud to have served on board her and want to do this one right. I'll actually build mine as you do yours and follow your lead!!! Your USS Arizona build was absolutely fantastic!! WELL DONE!!! I'm especially looking forward to how you do the hull plates, I've never done that before!!!
Thanks for your service and I am jealous you were able to serve on her. Jets I worked on in the USAFR are in museums now, but it's not the same thing. I didn't get to fly them so my connection isn't the same as I imagine your's is. I'll do my best to point you in the right direction with the build and point out all of the "problem areas" if there are any. Just like I did on my AZ build. Thanks man.
@@TheMidwestModelShop Thank you for your service. I really appreciate your reply, I want to do this one right, I did even drill out the 5" guns on my 1/350 scale which was no easy matter that's for sure, but I have neuropathy and it has progressed into my hands so it might be an issue with some of the finer detail or just slow me down a bit. I'm so looking forward to your videos on your progress. You do have a connection to the aircraft you worked, if you go to a museum that has one you'll se what I mean. Take Care and have fun. BTW those photo etched parts were the hardest part to do to me lol!!!
i bought a 1/200 bismarck very early in my modeling career (mainly because it was big and only $200 aud), and it ended up being a pretty big mistake (for my situation at least). its very large, so it allows for LOTS of detail, but you have to pay extra for those details which i couldnt really afford, and i didnt really have a place to display it. its now been living under my bed for years
tldr: make sure you have lots of $ and space before considering a kit of this size
This is VERY true. I previously built the Arizona because I knew it would fit in my house. But that was it. I couldn’t build another one. Then we moved and the new place had the space for lots of ships of this size. I actually waited until we closed on the sale of the house before ordering this kit.
I got a 1/200 Bismarck too...
Mine fell of its shelf 🥲
I now have to buy another 🥲
Good luck with it!
Very cool wow
So cool!!!
I wish there was a 1/200th scale USS North Carolina. there are so few model kits of my favorite battleship.
wicked project man, subbed..
Thx for sharing. Now I know that this is not the ship I want to buy and put in my pond. Cheers!
I am Korean and I think the Missouri Battleship, who surrendered Japan and helped in the Korean War, is the most grateful battleship.
Japan is building new aircraft carriers, expect the new korean-pearlharbor pretty soon ))
Wau what a model. I build the Tamiya Yamato 1/350.
From another brand added the tower in 1/200 to display. Was terrified how big 1/200 really is.
I spend a lot of time looking at the assembled hull (I've been working on it) and it is absolutely ridiculous how big it is. Get out a tape measure and lay out something that's 53 1/4 inches long and 8 inches wide. You'll see exactly what I mean. Someday, if I ever decide to move out of this house..... the ship will probably be included in the sale ; )
I have the bismark was going wood deck it but so many peeps said no it looks great with the plastic painted right and yes these kits are not blown up 1 /350 but very detailed hence there huge size!!!
Cool model. Cant wait for next video. Love to make model like this but would need to see whole video first.
ITs Huge man It massive .....always looking to those Trumperter Beautiful Big models....one of this day I'll chance my 1:48 WW2 airport...and so many different stuff more...by a Massive Huge ship
Just found you! Super excited to see the next video and your progress.
There are 18 more videos in the series! Should have video 20 out next week.
ミズーリの200分の1プラモあったなんて!凄い!完成品がみてみたいなあ~!
And here I've got a 1/200th scale Missouri put away in the basement I haven't had the courage to start. Problem is I have to get the parts scanned first. It's a card model on A3 card stock. I think it was about 25 bucks. From GPM. Plus a 1/200th Lexington and Saratoga. The great thing about card models is if you screw something up just print another sheet. Plus they make great templates for doing scratch builds? Additionally you can re-scale easily. Lest any one start thinking, oh yeah, its paper I would suggest looking at a couple of different web sites. One is for MicroArtWork.com. The other is for Halinski Card Models. It has pictures of prototype card models in different stages of construction.
i would be so tempted to waterline it in a diorama in a glass coffee table
Looking forward to seeing this one get built. That is a lot of detail in the detail set. I can only imagine what it must have cost.
Cost of model around 300 cost of detail set around 380
HOLY CRAP! That is a $275.00 piece of plastic!
Way over my skill/price level!!
Good luck to you!
Amazing review)
This looks like it’ll be an awesome build. The Pontos set looks pretty nice, I’ve paid good $ for some real dogs... this one looks way nice. Lots of good stuff coming out of Korea these days, I’m a big fan of Infini products.
I wanna get the Bismarck in the same scale
Looks like you’ll be buying paint by the gallon and brushes by the dozen. Back in my modeling and traveling days I would take modeling stuff with me to work on after I left work and went to the motel.... Kinda kept me outta the bar and doing something productive. Best of luck from a new subscriber.
