As a Celtics fan growing up, the biggest disappointment about the 1986 season was that the Lakers were upset by Houston in the Western Conference Finals. We were all looking forward to a Celtics/Lakers Finals re-match.
_The Beautiful Game - 1986 Celtics_ is a great video, too. They are a joy to watch. I think one of Bird's greatest assets is his inherent ability to adapt: to his teammates, to the opponents, to his physical limitations at any given time, to the game situation at hand, to _potential_ scenarios within the game at any particular moment, etc. He had a toolbox full of skills that he continuously added to facilitate that ability. ☘️ Larry Legend
Great reaction. Just one correction from the guy who was narrating.... The 1972 Celtics actually had the best record. They went 68-14. But this 1986 team is in the conversation as the best all time. I never saw a team with better chemistry, and they remain the best passing team I've ever seen. I remember one game at the Garden against the Knicks. Bird had a triple double with 13 assists, Dennis Johnson had 10 assists, Danny Ainge had 8 assists, and Walton had 7 assist off the bench. The crazy thing is that I think Bird and DJ played only 34 minutes because they were blowing out my team. LOL.
A couple more fun facts about the less often talked about guards on that team - Dennis Johnson was Finals MVP in 1979 with Seattle and Danny Ainge, after leaving the Celtics, went to two consecutive NBA Finals, with Portland and with Phoenix.
40-1 at home that year, still an NBA record, and one of, if not the most unselfish passing teams ever, I'll put that team up against any team in NBA history!
Great tape Double A. Yeah I remember the 86' Celtics. I hated them since I'm a Bulls fan and even with Michael we could never beat Larry Legend, but in 86' NOBODY could beat Boston. We all knew Larry was pissed in 85' and wanted revenge against the Lakers, but those twin towers of the Rockets destroyed L.A. The Celtics didn't care. They just said "Next". As great as Houston was they were no match for the greatest team in NBA history! You made your case. Well done sir.
Thank you for putting this together. Allot of LB content on youtube in particular is 87 and older. At this point his back injury and dual bone spurs pretty much diminished him to 50% capacity at best. That 86 team is without a doubt LBs peak and one of the best squads all-time. And capped off LB's consecutive 3 year MVP run. LB lead Celts to two NBA championships and made it to 3 Finals each year during that run. Incredible.
I think Walton was the other hall of famer on the team and was a bench player and the guy that got all American in three high school sports was the starter that didn't get into the hall of fame.
i dont know about the greatest team, tho Im not sure which other team i would pick over them. but I know they were the best ALL AROUND team and probably had the best CHEMISTRY of any team EVER.. It would be hard to bet against them. I think the BEST shot would be a team that could defend one on one at each position.. but even then, the Celtics in the 80s, RAN A LOT, so man to man could still be picked apart even in half court with crisp passing and precise off ball movement, which those Celtics teams had.. and they were PHYSICAL on BOTH ends..
One Thing They didn't start together; Bird Came in 79 & Chief, McHale came in 80 Or 81?. McHale was on the Bench not a starter for His first few Years. Danny came in 81, But was also not a Starter for a few Years. DJ came in I think in 83 OR 84? Walton came in 85. But They All Clicked with Each other Mainly Because Bird Wanted Them To Be Team Players. Birds Passing Was To Be Rubbed Off Everyone He wanted Everyone To Be Good At It. Bird Also wanted Them To Take Major Shots Too,,,Well Maybe Not The "Clutch" Shots, ha ha ha. What I Noticed To, is Yea They Had Their Coach; But They Would Omit That Larry Was Really The Coach When They Got On That Floor. In Fact They Said That Larry Would Call The Plays At Times & His Would Work Too. Keep Sharing These 80's Games Because Then Maybe The Young Ones Will SEE What Real Basketball Playing Should Be Like Again. Thank You For Sharing This.
They all came together at the right time to become one of if not the greatest team in basketball. They were extraordinarily good and played well off of one another.
@@doublea3241 Yes & Sorry If I Heard That Wrong. But Yes Your Right. And I wish I Could Find & Buy Every Game Of That Year. I Wish a Couple Of Young Smart Persons Would See How Much Money They Could Make If They Could Put Together A Whole Package Of This Team & The Other Team's Also Of The 80's. Can You Imagine How Much Money They Could Make & Not Just From The Older One's The Younger Ones Would Buy & Love These Too.
What made Ralph Sampson throwing punches at Jerry Sichting in the Finals so infuriating is the huge height differential between them. Sampson - 7’4” Sichting - 6’1” That’s a 15” height difference ! Notice that Scrappy Sichting did *not* back down though… lol
Parish never seemed fast but he made his way done the court quickly. I think he was so tall and lean that one step, one stride covered a lot of territory.
Oddly, the Celtics were known for their front court, but besides Bird, Danny Ainge, Jerry Sichting and Scotty Wedman were some of the best shooters in the league.
These guys couldn’t play zone defense in the NBA back then. You put this team in todays zone defense set ups and they would destroy the competition on both sides of the court. DJ, Ainge and McHale in zone D at this level? …C’mon Son!
If you want more fans then switch your pictures from the big picture to the little one and let us see what is going on. Don't need to see your tennis shoes 👟👟
The Celtics were on the winning side of the worst trade in NBA history. The Warriors traded Robert Parish and their first round pick to the Celtics for the Number One pick. The Warriors took Joe Sorry Carrol. The Celtics drafted McHale. Notice you ain’t watching a video on Joe Sorry Carrol and the Warriors.
That was not the question, were they the greatest of their time, as that is not even worth an answer. The question is were the 1986 Celtics the greatest team of all time. After watching that video, it is hard to say they weren't.
They always say jordan couldn't beat bird, chicago couldn't beat the Celtics, unbelievable teams, it was everyone against the patriots and Brady and i hate the patriots and Brady, ill probably get pulled from CZcams saying the word hate, but on the tip side Israel is going to wipe out the gaza strip ❤
That team was the greatest NBA team of all-time. It was a pleasure to watch them every night.
As a Celtics fan growing up, the biggest disappointment about the 1986 season was that the Lakers were upset by Houston in the Western Conference Finals. We were all looking forward to a Celtics/Lakers Finals re-match.
Best team ever
Yes. SO disappointed and still feel it now when I think about it.
The ball movement was fantastic. So many full court fast breaks where the ball never hits the ground. It was so fun to watch.
_The Beautiful Game - 1986 Celtics_

My favorite team, EVER.

Thanks for watching. Sorry for the assault against your team LOL.

40-1 is unheard of. Yea they definitely were amazing.

Thanks for watching and showing love. Yea LB was incredible and transcended that franchise.
Parish was the starting center. Walton was backup. There were schemes mentioned in the video that had both of them on the floor at the same time.
I wish I'd been there!!! They were Incredible! 🔥🔥🔥
I think Walton was the other hall of famer on the team and was a bench player and the guy that got all American in three high school sports was the starter that didn't get into the hall of fame.
Thanks for showing my request. A legendary team
Thanks for requesting it. A very legendary team!

I was ten... Was all Lenny Bias and Maryland, but loved the playoffs in that era

Perfect break down.

Sampson - 7’4”
Sichting - 6’1”
That’s a 15” height difference ! Notice that Scrappy Sichting did *not* back down though… lol
And 6'4" DJ stepped in to take on Ralph for punching at Sichting until Walton removed Ralph altogether.
DJ wound up with a cut near his eye.
Imagine how far Walton could have gone if he stayed fit, he was already a college legend before his league success
Actually, 4 HoFers starting. Walton was 6th Man and got HoF from Portland days.
It was important that 86 Celtics had champion KC Jones as the head coach. Had total respect and buy-in from the players.
The year my son was born.
We had the bad boy Piston in Detroit, but the bird was special. But all the games were exciting back then. I dont even watch Basketball anymore.
This guy does a great job with these videos. You should react to all the tenlam ones as well as the Making the Case for greatest player of all time.
Thanks a lot I appreciate the love. I will try and get to other videos
Subscribed!
I appreciate the love
Walton dropped enough acid to cover the whole team
AMEN
Parish never seemed fast but he made his way done the court quickly. I think he was so tall and lean that one step, one stride covered a lot of territory.
He ran track in high school, I believe.
I like that you disagreed with the remark about the fans being vicious considering the origins of "Beat LA!"
GOAT TEAM . BIRD GOAT PLAYER 🐐 🐐 🐐 MVPs
McHale was the first olajawon, they could kill a new team, it reminds me of uncle drew when the older heads smash the younger heads
Oddly, the Celtics were known for their front court, but besides Bird, Danny Ainge, Jerry Sichting and Scotty Wedman were some of the best shooters in the league.
Danny Ainge was the lone starter who didn't make the Hall
Why is Danny Ainge not in the HALL OF FAME? What criteria did he not meet to qualify for the HOF? Please let us know?😊😊😊
Still an awesome hippie
Agree or disagree as you want..but yeah..a pretty damn dominant team regardless
I will take the 86 celtics against any other team in NBA history past or present ,
From what I’ve seen I can’t disagree.
These guys couldn’t play zone defense in the NBA back then. You put this team in todays zone defense set ups and they would destroy the competition on both sides of the court.
DJ, Ainge and McHale in zone D at this level?
…C’mon Son!
As much as I love Larry I’m forced to put the 96 Bulls as 1 then this Boston team 2
Listen man. It’s always hard to go against those 96 Bulls. I understand!
4 HOF's . Walton was the 5th HOF, he was the 6th man. Ainge was the only starter not in the HOF.
I WONDER IF BASKETBALL SHOES OF TODAY ARE SUPERIOR TO THOSE OF THE MID 80’s. Lol
They definitely are slightly inferior from a materials standpoint, but it’s just way more accessible nowadays.
They weren't perfect. They did lose 1 game at home all season long.
You should watch an actual game...you get to see another side to the tram.
I’ll definitely try. Videos and clips don’t do it any justice.
If you want more fans then switch your pictures from the big picture to the little one and let us see what is going on. Don't need to see your tennis shoes 👟👟
1971-1972 Lakers with a 33 game winning streak they led the league in just about every category. They were the best!
Celtics came out on top.
That was not the question, were they the greatest of their time, as that is not even worth an answer. The question is were the 1986 Celtics the greatest team of all time. After watching that video, it is hard to say they weren't.

why do you think the content should have the smaller screen? Your tupperware isn't very interesting
We had the bad boy Piston in Detroit, but the bird was special. But all the games were exciting back then. I dont even watch Basketball anymore.
