  • Update June 1,2020
After 3 months of hand-ringing, the factory decided to replace the powerhead. They sent to Hawaii a completely dressed powerhead. The new powerhead is putting out twice the amount of power and performing as it should.
Most of the experienced mechanics I've heard from think that the problem was either bad or broken reed valves or possibly a misaligned crank or???????
Is it true that BRP is dropping ETEC?
This video is about a 2019 E-Tec 40 horse power jet that we think is defective. There is some question by the factory and it's Honolulu dealer about whether this is defective or whether it's the wrong motor on the wrong boat misapplication.
    Quote from Honolulu E-Tec Dealer:
"The BRP Lead Technical Service Representative has mentioned the sound of the outboard missing and popping may occur with the jet drive outboard engines outfitted to non-flat hull bottoms operated in non-shallow water. This noise is most common between 2800-3000 rpms, and may persist in higher rpms. The missing/popping is not an engine defect it is the result of the engine operating outside its design parameters. It is possible that the problem we are seeing is and application issue."
We are looking for expert opinions.

an outboard jet caveating sounds like super high rpm revs because thats whats happening... air in the jet pump makes the impeller spin without load and you get high rpms. I dont know what that sounds is but its NOT cavitation from the jet pump.

Don't need to stay in holiday inn to hear a missfire.

Good afternoon. Tell me the exact name of the water jet nozzle for your engine. Thanks.

I’ve got a 2015 ETEC 115HP. Sounds just like mine. I’d say normal.

I know this motor personally, as I looked at it for Don after the dealer did. Sounder as if the reed valves were acting up. Sure enough that seemed to be the problem. Evinrude replaced the powerhead and problem solved. Runs beautiful now. I might add the local deal didn't know their ass from a hole in the wall! Been servicing Etecs for years and currently am the only service guy in Hawaii also doing most of the military's motors. Outboardmotorservicekailua.com.
