  • Venture into the High Peaks Wilderness of NY’s Adirondack Mountains on this overnight backpacking trip! Stroll through aromatic pine forests, clamber over wooden planks along Avalanche Lake, and settle on a campsite beside divine Opalescent Brook for the evening. Just remember to bring your BEAR CAN and plenty of layers (since CAMPFIRES are PROHIBITED), and you’ll be all set for a magnificent Adirondack adventure!

      @@UnboringExploring hi again... do you recall if the site you stayed at was one of the three sites just SW of Opalescent Leanto - does that sound right?

    Do you need a backcountry permit or reserve a campsite or is it first come first served??

      Hey Alex! Not sure the protocol these days - I would reach out to the ADK Mountain Club (who run Heart Lake Loj at the trailhead of this trek) for up-to-date information: email info@adk.org or call 518-523-3441

    I’m wanting to do a hike around avalanche lake. What would you recommend to just do a day hike?

    • @UnboringExploring
      @UnboringExploring  Před 3 lety

      The total mileage is 12 miles (6 miles out, 6 miles back) from Heart Lake to Avalanche Pass - while it is doable if you're in good shape and plenty prepared, keep in mind it will be an all-day affair :) Hope that helps!

      @@UnboringExploring hmm another CZcams hiker said it’s 4.8 miles from Adirondack loJ to avalanche lake. Are there different trailhead entrances you can take?

    • @UnboringExploring
      @UnboringExploring  Před 3 lety

      @@allezshazam Ah - Perhaps to Avalanche Pass it is 6 miles, but to the beginning of Avalanche Lake is less distance (could be 4.8!) - though only one way - so the total distance of the hike is double whichever distance you hike in since it is an out-and-back. Check out Lake Placid's website for more info: www.lakeplacid.com/do/hiking/avalanche-lake
