    All the old timers at the mill I worked at were missing the first knuckle of their index finger from turning up with string.

    How was the paper cut? is it by the means of the water jet?

      Compressed air!

      Air is directed in both directions front and back by a nozzle on the "goose neck". Breaks the sheet and it picks up on the new spool. The parent reel kicks out to a "braking" station. Where it comes to a stop and is picked up by a crane or is transferred down the rails.

      @@Osckarre the machine was at the Bear Island Mill in Ashland VA. Shut down about 3 years ago.

      @@MrA2u1 ahhaaa... thankyou. The one I worked at just shut down for good. 11 paper machines over 110 yrs
