"We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light"

Never Give Up In Life!!!!
I was reading Seneca's "Of Anger" last night and I found this quote very evocative:
'Plato was about to strike his servant, and while his hand was in the air, he checked himself, but still held it in that menacing posture. A friend of his took notice of it, and asked him what he meant? “I am now,” says Plato, “punishing of an angry man;” so that he had left his servant to chastise himself.'
What a display of discernment and self-control, to check yourself in that situation and recognize you are the one who needs to be punished for having let your anger persuade you.
That's a great story, good find
@@OrionPhilosophy Thank you for reigniting my interest in Seneca and Stoicism in general 👍

Here to say, Plato was an olympian Gold medalist wrestler... This man was a GigaChad.
Seneca is rich. Stoicism is a mental therapy.

???
Humans are not animals. We are children of God, made in His image.
We're apes
This could be a possibility. It's proving it that is the hard part.
"You are a little soul carrying about a corpse, as Epictetus used to say."
As for proof, one only need to seek within. Who is the 'I' that exists in all three states of waking, dream and dreamless sleep?
I've been told I have his nose.
@@OrionPhilosophythat is just brilliant. What a reply. Cut it right back to the truth.
As one of one of the first quotes we can be the most savage of animals if we are not careful. Maybe even worse than any other primate as we so often choose worse than a ape.
Education has been destroyed by progressive degeneracy. Hence the result.
The Ru/Greek/Byzantium were Identiphobic.....& frankly are not very good at written philosophy.
I think they were great. They're still widely read today and give a lot of people valuable ways to think about life. Different strokes for different folks.
@@OrionPhilosophy Norse Mythos teaches more & doesn't have the baggage.
@@truepremise2053 I disagree. I don't think Norse mythology covers nearly as much ground as the Greeks and the Roman philosophers. There's certainly value in the Norse, but it's more anecdotal and story driven which, for me, makes it shallower. Out of curiosity, what baggage do you think comes with philosophy?
@@OrionPhilosophy Byzantium has Identiphobia & doesn't keep the shit it makes.
@@OrionPhilosophy Also, ROME is to Baldurs Brood & literally fucking WALLED the entire White Race.....so I'm ambivilant.
