  • Hua Lampong Train Station Bangkok will probably close in the near future, but for now trains are still running. There is a very nice exhibition at the station where you can visit different locations in Hua Lampong. It's a great day out for the family.
    It is the perfect way to say farewell to the Old station and see all the nice parts of it. There are several stamp locations in the station where you can collect stamps on a booklet. When you have 10 stamps you can collect a memorial set that includes a key chain and postal stamps.

    Excellent video with diversity on the subject of quality life in Thailand. The downside is the apparent absence of the Asian element and especially Thailand.

    The passport with space for stamps could be a really cool tourist thing to encourage people to self direct their time in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, etc.

    These old locomotives are 'nostalgic gold' and thank you for this footage. Brilliant, they even have an air of romanticism about them...just my personal feelings, nothing weird. Well done.

    Very interesting. Hope they preserve the station in some fashion. Imagine what a cool market it could make. Talk about a real train night market! Wow. Or maybe make it a museum or art gallery.

    Hua Lamphong Train Station was a project of the Italian architect Mario Tamagno, who together with his colleague Annibale Rigotti designed different projects for the renovation and modernization of Bangkok at the beginning of XX th Century.
    A piece of Italy and Neo-Renaissance Style in the heart of the city!
    Great Video and nice experience!

    I do hope that the situation of Hua Lamphong will end up the same as "Don Muang Airport" which was supposed to be replaced by "Suvarnabhumi Airport"
    By that time they tried to close DMA, and turn it into other use (commercial complex etc.).
    However, DMA now is very important, and has plans to build more terminals/facilities ??
    I think more and more people oppose the idea to close the History site, Hua Lamphong.

    The reason for the portraits of Rama V, Chulalongkorn, are because he brought the train to Thailand for the first time. That, and ending slavery, are his most notable accomplishments.

    Hua Lampong will remain open after wide debate of the earlier unilateral decision by the State Railways of Thailand (SRT) to close and move all activities to Bang Sue. After listening to public comments, the government decided to revoke the SRT's decision and order it to open but reduce number of trains in and out of the station.

    Wasn't Hua Lampong built some time less than 20 years ago? Or was it the metro part that was built back then?

      Yes, the Metro is new. The original station was built in 1916.

  • @servantandrew
    @servantandrew Před 2 lety +3

    I don’t understand why they have to close it, why can’t they just turn it into a redline station by building plateformes under it.

    • @globaltravelmate
      @globaltravelmate  Před 2 lety +2

      I think the space around it is worth a pretty penny for developers.

    • @servantandrew
      @servantandrew Před 2 lety

      @@globaltravelmate That’s the problem, the developers don’t get to decide, the public does, where is the public consultation process? Many train stations in Europe have being running for a century, the developers there got to develop the surrounding areas without having to close historic landmarks.
