  • Just a brief video to discuss 3rd Wave firmware updates and to demonstrate MPE support. I'm using the Expressive-E Osmose as MPE controller for this demo.

      Hi Mark, did you guys ever think that the visual connection to PPG may be counterproductive? There are more musicians than only me who were never attracted by PPG so they easily passed by. I also thought 3rd Wave is just a modern clone of PPG so I didn't care - untill I saw beautiful video from Jim Daneker which opened my eyes and ears. I was going to buy Quantum II but this changed my mind. You have created outstanding instrument - even more when you added MPE now! There is everything I miss at most of modern synths and I already decided to get the module. Great work! And if you will make a black edition, I'll be even happier :-)

    Best example I've ever heard of MPE. Wow. Never thought I cared much about it, but might have to reconsider. Beautiful patch. 👍

    A wonderful sounding patch, even the "original" patch without MPE 👍

    This is certainly my dream hardware combination Osmose and the 3rd wave. Pure GAS... Thanks for the very clear demonstration!

    I have a 3rd Wave on order. Should be fun with my Hydrasynth Deluxe as a controller. I appreciate your videos!

    Bob and his crew are doing excellent work, the inclusion of MPE is just excellent and having an Osmose is perfect partnering.
    Do the sequencers at all respond to MPE?

    Great Show, Tim. Q: Are your modules as used on the Numphes CC/CV Expander videos for sale? Like the Scope, Sequencer, Attenuator, EG, all those bits you designed to test CC/CV? I got the impression you might list them as Bundle at some point. Thanks. Mark

    Nice, tim! 😎. How much would you say you actually use pitch bend, versus ‘just’ poly-AT ?! … I ask because my vibrato pedal is cool, but too much of a good thing makes the audience seasick!! I’m thinking poly-AT (maybe just via a Hydra Deluxe) will be a huge improvement for me; whereas MPE/pitch-bend, a mich lesser incremental improvement (in which case, I might just hold off on the Osmose …). Love all your vids!! 🤗. Cheers!

      From what I’ve seen, the osmose lets you completely customize the range of the “wiggle” in the keys, and it has like a stability control where more means you’ve got an easier time hitting the note before the pitch bend starts to apply. I don’t own one, but I think it might be better if you’re not satisfied with just vibrato pedals.

    Could you please summarize pros and cons of Hydrasynth and 3rd Wave? Even very shortly... much appreciate!

    Another great demo of a compelling feature added to a fantastic synth design. Let's hear it for poly unison as well - Hydrasynth are you listening?!? For me Nina is the only other compelling synth out of this "general" type of voice architecture. (I find the UI to be VERY compelling) I invested in an ERAE touch and so far it is a fantastic X/Y/Z MPE controller.

      What is it you want hydra synth to add. I have one and osmose. Love em together

    • @klstay
      @klstay Před měsícem

      @@djembeboyzach a poly unison mode; as stated. It is already a fantastic synth, but that should not stop them from adding bits here and there. As CPU power continues to grow I would love to see a few things on their next iteration. You can already do a lot with FM, but straightforward access to all 32 DX7 algorithms (and even the ability to load original patches) would be fantastic. A granular mutator would also be great. Maybe an onboard sequencer, but I care a lot less about that than some. If the latest CPUs allow it 24 voice 3 parts.

    I believe the Waldorf Quantum has MPE support, but I have yet to get it to work with Osmose and MPE.

    • @paulmapp8306
      @paulmapp8306 Před 9 měsíci

      yep - quantum and iridium both have MPE. I dont have an MPE controller yet lol - though Osmose is in once I find space. I THOUGHT it was relatively easy to implement on the Waldorf's - from what Ive seen that is.

  • @paulmapp8306
    @paulmapp8306 Před 9 měsíci

    I need an Osmose lol -= I have no space. Im going to have to sell my Polybrute to make room (I have a couple of sequential desktops so still have VCO options). Its a slow market at the moment though..... On the up side , when it DOES sell - I have both 3W and Iridium so Ill be all over MPE.

    • @JBrm
      @JBrm Před 3 měsíci

      I decided to sell my Prophet 6 instead of the polybrute. The PB gained a lot from the latest firmware update, while I just HATE the numeric patch selection on the prophet - and the modulation options are very limited as well. Plus, the MPE implementation sucks. Looking at the 3rd wave atm as a companion for my osmose. Let's see!

    • @paulmapp8306
      @paulmapp8306 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@JBrm Kept the P6, sold the PB. I didnt like the buttons on PB - the patch selection was WAY worse than the Prophet IMO. I have modulation covered with an LFE and other synths (I feel once you start getting into more than basic modulation you lose all the benefit of VSOs anyway. i did pick up osmoise but its not getting that much use TBH. Im not that bothered about MPE as it turns out, poly AT is more than enough for most cases. Ill keep the Osmose until I need space though.

    • @JBrm
      @JBrm Před 3 měsíci

      @@paulmapp8306 how can it be worse when you have names, categories and 64 buttons for direct selection on the synth? 😅 Well, I guess the buttons on the prophet are better in a live situation when you have to switch fast. But then again you need to know your numbers 🙈

    • @paulmapp8306
      @paulmapp8306 Před 2 měsíci

      @JBrm the pb buttons are trash..... and pb has a lot less slots.
      Banks of 10 have been the norm for decades. Personally numbers only doesn't bother me.

    So sorry they didn't put polyphonic aftertouch keyboard into it for that price point.

    • @alexandrebaroni1057
      @alexandrebaroni1057 Před 9 měsíci

      For Sure. I have the 3rd Wave. But with Osmose you can get more than a simple Poly aftertouch. For a price for sure. But I agree that the price is high today.

    • @marzzz1
      @marzzz1 Před 9 měsíci

      It wasn't available soon enough for production; to add it now would require a redesign of the main circuit board as well as modifying the synth chassis to accommodate the polyAT keybed. I would pay dearly for a polyAT version of the 3rd Wave....

      Honestly the main reason I chose the Quantum mk2 over this

    • @ct6929
      @ct6929 Před 9 měsíci +3

      All the poly keyboards feel terrible after you try an Osmose. I’ve given up using my iridium keybed. I get way better results hooking up the osmose to it.

    • @paulmapp8306
      @paulmapp8306 Před 9 měsíci

      @@ct6929from what I understand, the Osmose keybed isnt great at regular playing technique , and certainly at speed. I do need an Osmose in my life - just hont have the physical space and the used market is slow selling gear to make room. Ive had my Polybrute listed for nearly 3 months and had one sniff who didn't buy. Its at a decent price too (lower than Ive seen on EBay/REverb etc)
