Justin is a Memphis boy and a hugely talented musician. He’s more of an R&B singer but has that country background. They brought down the house that night and those two songs were perfect together. I agree with Ryan’s rant! The CMA’s often have better performances than the Grammys. Just straight up good musicianship in the country world!
Chris was real nervous about performing Tennessee Whiskey alone when his wife contacted Justin, who was a close friend with Justin. When they informed CMA they doubled the time allotted and made this the opening number. There is so much energy that was in part to Justin's band. Can you imagine how the next number felt about following this?
Chris was never nervous about performing alone. Internet myth. He was was very well known & admired in the Nashville music community but his 1st recordings hadn't caught on for some reason so he asked Justin to do him this favor. It worked!
1 small thing - Morgane is pronounced Morgan. Chris is absolutely the truth. It's just stand & deliver. As many have said, he is his own genre. You will hear blues, soul, rock, gospel, Bluegrass, & country (including outlaw). Watch performances with just him & his guitar: "Cry", "Barely Alive" & "Your Man" Live at the Bing Lounge, "Whiskey & You" on Charlie Rose. Morgane sings perfect harmony & JT Cure on & Derek Mixon on drums behind him are the basic, very talented band. You can't go wrong listening to any of it.
You should listen to song "Blow" Ed Sherran, Chris Stapleton, AND Bruno Mars!!! Only watch video that has the actual female band members - lyric video doesn't do it!!! Warning: it will blow your mind, LOL.

I think that they are neighbours and have collaborated for years. Talent likes to work with talent. Stapleton is a music savant. He writes well and is a great arranger. Timberlake is one of the very good musicians out there and works well with Chris and Morgana. But they are not simply country. The broad influences include gospel, soul, rock, Outlaw country and Southern Rock. Someone jokingly called Chris the best young black musician out there because he was truer to the tradition and a better singer than most of the supposed stars.
Ryan if you think Sam Smith was bad at the Grammy's, one month later was the Brit Awards and he was an absolute embarrassment, what he (they/them) was wearing on the red carpet and the performance was laughable/cringey, his singing is not the sort of thing I like, I was going to say I don't like Wingey/Whiney singers like Billie Eilish then I noticed you are reacting to her, Oh well,, Nathan you're not missing anything by not knowing him.

Chris was born and raised In Kentucky. He also covered Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters. It was amazing.
Chris and TJ vocally complemented each other but as the performance goes on the vocals continuously goes up notch by notch.
